Title: Zero Punctuation's no-nonsense review of SSBB.
Post by: Tupin on April 23, 2008, 01:20:56 PM
Warning, lots of cursing. (http://kotaku.com/383143/zero-punctuation-beats-on-smash-bros-brawl)

I mostly agree with this guy. The only thing he doesn't understand fully is that the camera is supposed to be zoomed out. His main point is that if it is a party game, why must there be so much unlocking? Also, by the time you unlock every character and bring you friends over to play, you will be so much better than them by playing single player all the time that you will become a tourney player because no one is as good as you. Also, his comment on obscurity is valid.

Unless Nintendo releases MOTHER 3 in the US within two years like they did with Fire Emblem, why even put Lucas in?  :|

Ultimately, what he thinks of the game is summed up in one quote:

"Did you defend the name Nintendo Wii relentlessly online? If so, you'll love this game."

Thoughts, comments?

I agreed with most of what he said also. I didn't know who the hell marth was and Snake and Sonic should have been unlockable from the start.

I still love it though.  :-*

I barely found anything I would "agree" with.

So if you bought a new game, new series and everything, would you be mad if you didn't already know the character?
No, because its a new game.

Thats what Smash did, take whats old and make it new again.  :)

Oh and they didn't release FE 2 months after SSBM ^_^

FE 6 was released after SSBM, and it is Japan only.

Forget it.
All opinions anyway.  :)

Melee was the first time most Americans had ever heard of Fire Emblem, much less Marth.

Likewise, Brawl was the first time many people had heard of MOTHER.

Marth was obviously an ad for the upcoming release of Fire Emblem.

Melee came out in 2001.

Fire Emblem came out in 2003.

Are you trying to disprove your points?
Marth was not in Fire Emblem 7 >_<

Roy and Marth were appealing to the Japanese crowd, since North America isnt the only gaming market in the world.

And Fire Emblem 6 starred who other than... Roy!  :O
Roy was used to advertise the upcoming Fire Emblem 6 for the GBA, and Marth most likely was another addition purely because he was Retro AND Fire Emblem.

Sure it was an attempt at introducing FE, but I hardly think they put Marth in to advertise for a game he wouldn't be in and would come out in a few years >_<

If those dates are correct, I bet they didnt even know about FE 7 at the time.

Anyway, you rock, Mother 3! :D

They better release MOTHER 3 in America.

Also, I admit that the SSE is boring.

Bah, Nintendo cares more about Japan than they do USA. Lucas was more than likely wanted highly in Japan. >_>

Are all his other reviews like that?

Nope.

Just watch them, he loves some games.

He doesn't get fighting games and hates how Nintendo whores out their franchises, you would know that if you watched his reviews.

The only reason he reviewed the game in the first place was because hordes of people were requesting it.

He's Australian, he had to import a copy because there was so much pressure to review it.

He is a good reviewer, and he made some valid points.

Actually, I loved the review.

The way he puts it, I'm obviously not a fanboy, because I actually took the whole thing lightly, and as a joke, and thought it was hilarious, and I'll probably show it to my cousin.

But, despite being "that guy", it's not like the only other people that you can play are the fatass geeks with no lives. I know he exaggerated nearly EVERYTHING to make a point, but he DID have a point in some cases.

Now, those like the button-mashing whine and that you have to be a fanboy to enjoy it aren't even close to being true, but...

Overall, I like it. A lot. Even if it does incessantly flame Brawl constantly, I just can't take the guy seriously enough to be offended by it.   :P

I liked it too because he said everything I was thinking but more exaggerated and with a lot more cursing. :P

But in order to unlock EVERYTHING in the game, you do need to become some what of a "that guy".

The one with Ninten, yes.

That's just what it should be called if it comes to America.

It was ready to be released in America, but the NES was already outdated by the time they were ready to ship it.

I don't think MOTHER 3 will ever be released here, there is just too much text.
