Okay, so I'm trying to burn Outlaw Star onto some DVD-Rs. My question is...is the recordable time for playable DVDs limited by the "120 minute" thing on the disc, or is it limited by the 4.8GB size? Nobody seems to quite know the answer, though I suspect it's probably the first one. :(

Yes, in terms of video files burning onto discs it is usually limited by the time limit itself. Frankly I don't understand the size limit because it always ends after the time limit....

The size limit is for when you make a data disk.

True, but you know how finnicky discs can be...
That's just my personal preferance though, I haven't needed discs for data stuff yet...
