Well I finally saved up enough money to buy a Wii, but when I called the stores in my area they told me I won't be able to get one till February at the earliest. It's unbelievable how popular this system is. o_O Has there ever been a time in gaming history that a system was this hard to get? I mean it's been out for over a year now! You would think Nintendo would have made enough by now. :(
Yes.
It went by the name of...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DpJyG7B6tAI
They had a hard enough time keeping 'em on the shelf in the summer. They weren't prepared for how popular it'd get during the holidays. However, it could be a marketing ploy to try and make the Wii sound harder to get than it is, meaning cost can rise without many making a complaint about it.
My advice: Keep saving, because once February comes, you can assume prices will be jacked up, especially with the release of Brawl around the corner.

Prices jacked up? I seriously doubt Nintendo would raise the price of the Wii.

OMG you're right! I forgot about Brawl. GRRRRRRRRRRRR that means I probably won't be able to get a wii till like the summer. I don't like fighting games so I don't plan to get Brawl, but I'm sure that more will get a wii because of that game. -_-

I'm not saying it WILL happen, but it's a possibility, and it'd be a good way to increase revenue while keeping production the same.

I agree with Guy. Nintendo isn't the kind of company to do such a thing. They have always been the first to lower prices not raise them.

That's a whole different story. Big stores like Walmart or EB games and so forth can't because they are company owned stores. They have signed agreements with the distributer. This much I know because I work for a company that distributes to big stores for retail sales. However, small stores that are owned by individuals can mark up prices however they please. Yet this is why you wouldn't buy a high ticket item like a wii from a small mom and pop store. Amazon.com isn't regulated either so new systems are over $400

But those big retailers can and will make bundles at incredibly high prices, and people will be forced to either buy those or wait for the next shipment, and many people are impatient...
The Gamestops in your area (if there are any) aren't doing reservations again? I thought all of them were doing it till Jan 25th. Mine are.

This is true, but they still don't jack the price because they can't. They just give you a bunch of junk you don't want.

It's probably a good thing that they did that. That way they don't have a lot of mad of customers that made reservations and still didn't get a system.

Well you could just con someone out of money to get the wii bundles.
Or look at all the off the wall store locations in your area. One Office Depot in my town was selling 20 Wii's for a week

I don't con people. I want to get it from EB/Gamestop because I have a card there with $74 on it and I want to trade my GCN with it.

I suppose not...and ha ha I got one :P
But I had to fight tooth and nail for EB to give it to me. My mom and I had to nearly sock the clerk to get him to sell it to us X_X
My mom bought one right when the new shipment came in last year.
that's about how long i had to wait.
i think it was 1 1/2 months though.
I can't believe wii is still this hard to get.
It's funny because I just walked right into a EB games around september on my birthday and asked for a wii and got one without a hassle :)

It's those scalpers that buy all of the systems a store has in stock and sell them on eBay for like $400 with "five games!" (Wii Sports)

I graduated college back in 2002 :P
Really?
I was at Best Buy today, and there was about 20 Wiis just sitting there, and after being in the store for around 2 hours, only one person bought a Wii.
They must not be as popular where I am right now.
Lucky for me, I got a Wii early. 'Though my mom had to search for it for 2 weeks. Totaly worth it if you look hard enough.
I got mine last December :). So, I've had it for a year now!
IIRC the PS2 was much harder to find.
if you find out when a shop gets them in (exact time & date) you can get one easily (when I got mine, the box was still cold & moist, and they had just cut open the box... I was the first one to get mine on that shipment :P).
Gamestop said if you paid before the 25 your sure to get in as late as feb in NY =P

February 2012 -_-
I got mine for Christmas last year because my dad sat in line for 19 hours to get it.
My advice, Andrea, is to call your local stores that could carry them (especially Wal-Mart) every day.
It may take a bit of time, but that's how one of my friends got one.
They called Wal-Mart every day asking about shipments until they got an exact time and date, and they went and bought one.
No need to worry. It sucks. :0)
Well actually, I just remembered that a Game Stop I went to yesterday had a few Wiis. I think like 5, 6, or 7.
My friend's mom got him one of eBay. Apparently they got a good deal; a bundle with Metroid Prime 3, Wii Play, Mario Party 8, a few other games, 4 Wiimotes, and 4 Nunchuks.
