Come in here to post all of your complaints about how the high school bros are stealing your lunch money, or how your dorm roommate touches you while you sleep.
I'll begin: A professor for one of my Criminal Justice classes assigned us three days to write a five page SINGLE SPACED midterm. I've been working on it near non-stop since Monday, and I still have one more section to go. I hate everything.
ouch bro, been there
honestly right now my only complaint is that in my physics class we have quizzes at the start of class on the chapter he's about to lecture on and about subjects we're going to discuss in class
I get that we're supposed to read the text before class, and I usually do, but I don't see how taking a quiz before we get the information drilled into our skulls is the superior method of facilitation of learning than taking a quiz at the end of class after we've discussed and listened to the lecture, etc. When you ask him he just shrugs, so its clear he doesn't know either.
Im thinking of majoring in journalism.

That sounds awful. I had a professor last semester who did the same thing for Comparative Politics, and it was the only thing that kept me from getting an "A" in the class.

If he could have explained his reasoning on why he chooses to do it that way, I would have been fine with it. He didn't even try to, though. That leads me to believe that he's just being a dick.
Oh well. That's Uni for you.
Trying my darndest to pull off a B average so that I can go to Britain for a semester third year. It's tough because I still haven't gotten used to university life. So it's not really Uni sucks to much as I'm trying not to suck. It's actually really tough to get your poop in gear and read a book or essay/write a paper when there's no one looking over your shoulder to make sure you're not playing Skyrim or watching porn or sleeping or eating poop. You know?

College life takes some major adjustments (it wasn't easy for me at first) but once you do get the hang of it, it becomes so much better. It just takes some time, patience, and effort. I mean, this year has been so much better than my Freshman year, you have no idea.

That's what I've heard from friends and relatives. Apparently first year is really quite the intercourse -up for a lot of people. What's unfortunate is that my Creative Writing program requires a 75 to go into second year workshops. I didn't show up for a large portion of classes first semester, and didn't study anything for the exam, so I got quite swamped. I'm busting ass now so that I can stay in my program and not have this year be a waste.

I don't think that's necessarily true. I enjoy the classes that I'm taking and I've been having a great time with extra-curricular stuff. Sure, it's important that you graduate, but there's a lot more to college than just ensuring a future career.

I dunno. I feel like a lot of the stuff that I'm learning in my classes could be directly applied to field I want to go into. In general, classes are meant to provide you with a framework for how best to approach the field of work you wish to pursue.

Or at least knowledge you can adapt for use within the field. It all depends on the field.
You're all still missing the point.
the initial comment was in reply to "Why skip classes that's what you're there for."
that sort of sentiment generally comes form the sort of people that go to college because they're told going to college is what you're supposed to do to get a good job.
Classes are the least relevant part of college in that regard.
I personally learned very little in classes that I couldn't have taught myself faster, but that's just how I learn. I won't argue that other people don't learn a lot from classes, but learning is not what college is for in the I'm going to college to get a job kind of way.

I'm holding onto the hope that the transition to college weeds out the worst of the bunch. Which would make sense, I mean, the really bad folks are most likely doing nothing after they finish high school, so the "popular" folk who actually decide to attend college are really decent people on the inside. Yeah, I was doing a lot of work over Spring Break too. I think when you hit college all breaks become "breaks."
Alberta College of Art and Design...Holy poop. I never thought college was going to be easy, and I went into ACAD well aware that it was going to challenge me; the design department has a reputation for throwing more at their students than pretty much any other art institution, they have a pretty high dropout rate. The students that do succeed have a chance of going on to do great things (specifically design students).
I've just finished my first year at ACAD. So upon seeing this topic, I sort of feel I need to vent a bit. So feel free to ignore if you don't want to see a bit of a rant;
The most challenging thing at in my first year of studies for design was learning. Anything. They should really advertise this more, but they have a certain expectation of how one should be drawing when you get to ACAD. In my case, I've done a lot of 'delusional' drawing. I like to draw cartoons and things I make up in my head. I've certainly drawn realism before, but not enough to incorporate it into my art practice in the way my teachers there wanted to see. I'm fine with stepping way out of my comfort zone to learn something new, but design at ACAD doesn't allow you a lot of time to really learn.
Just for a bit of background, if you're interested in doing design at ACAD, you have to take a general first year studies with some classes that cater to design (two design drawing classes, design fundamentals and colour theory). After you complete the pre-requisites, you can then apply separately to get into the design program itself. The work you use will mostly be from those aforementioned classes. Over three hundred people apply per year and only sixty get in. There are three streams of design you choose from (Graphic Design/Advertising, Photography, Character Design/Illustration) and that means you only have a one in twenty chance of getting in the design program. All the first year design classes were made with assignments that take up a lot of your time (half the time they were made to be hard for hards sake, to weed out those who won't do the work).
It's understandable, design is a business that requires the utmost professionalism. But I feel it's a bit much, because there are students who attend that are learning the concepts taught in the classes for the very first time, like myself. This leads to a problem where you end up having 5-6 things you're always working on at any given time. Deadlines are usually always the next week (and if you have an assignment that's two weeks, they make sure to give you more stuff you have to do in the process that you basically only have one week to do the actual project). They aren't really giving me much time to learn. I've just got time to do the assignments that are given. It's not fair. And you know what? They are probably aware of that and just don't given a poop. Because life isn't fair. They just want people who will come through this stuff successfully and they couldn't care less about those who don't make it.
I've passed all my classes (barely) and I have learned new things that I would say have sort of made the experience worth it. But I feel like I've just been working really hard and not getting much for it. I'm always pulling late nights on my assignments and I've spent the year out of my comfort zone and working on assignments that would become more of my teachers idea than mine by the end of it. I have friends in the fine arts department of the school who milk doing nothing, finishing their assignments the night before it's due and they get A grades. I've been getting C's and D's. In a few cases I got a B- (but I REALLY pulled all the stops for those ones).
If you were wondering what stream I was interested in it was character design. Because I've had previous experience with animation, and so I wanted to take character design for my animation work. But I think I'm just going to pursue animation. I'm sure design is worth it, but I don't believe I am fit for it. ACAD's design program is essentially setting you up for slave-like work at a company with a high demand of work output in a short period of time. I'm my own person, I need to do what I want and how I want to do it.
Well, I feel a little better getting that out.

I'm going to SUNY Ulster (community college) for two years while i get my poop together, decide what i want to do with my life, gather some money, and pick a 4-year school.
Even community college is a thousand times better than my high school. Don't hate.

Honestly it's a really smart thing to do, since you get a lot of required poop out of the way while it's cheap. And this way when I'm in whatever 4-year school I go to I can focus on my major (still undecided) and not have to worry about all that.
Plus it's driving distance so I don't have to move out yet. Like, last year I was looking forward to getting out of my parents' house but at this moment it's something I just don't feel like doing. I'm totally okay with another two years of eating food.
But after visiting the university I really don't want to go back to high school. It's just so... awful in comparison. This last month and a half is going to drag on forever.

Bump.
I've been gone for the most part from these forums, but I like this topic so maybe I can bring it back. I got a lot of stories about two of my roommates I had the past 2 years if anyone is intersted.
Anyways, I go to a technology school and the intercourse ing inernet here is unforgiving. We can always count on at least 2 nights where out internet is down. This semester started out with 12 hours of downtime the very first night. Today Angel(a site used to communicate and share files with professors and other classmates) had been down for over 24 hours. Did I mention I got to a intercourse ing tech school?

It was awful. Always down. Laggy. Not saving assignments properly. It was a nightmare.

Know how you feel.
I think Blackboard baught Angel in the recent years, still all a mess though.
One of my roommates I had for two years, was an alcoholic/drunk. Over the two years he had passed out in the shower 4 times and flooded our suite. At least a 100 gallons of water spread through the hallways and 4 rooms each time(not including whatever water our laundry bags absorbed). (This is the short version)

Oh we do. About halfway through last semester he decided he didn't want to be in school anymore, so he just ended up staying up odd hours of the night every night, screaming stupid poop playing Dota 2, and usually drinking.
So many things I don't have to deal with anymore between him and our other roommate.
Later in life he'll probably regret that. I mean, school has been rough on me too and there were times I wanted to give up, but I've made many good memories and pushed on.
but hey at least hes not your problem anymore

i think so but a lot of dudes who really like miasma swear by it and only it

try these out, if you don't like them stick to miasma
also do you like the red chord or despised icon
The only Deathcore acts I actually thought were any decent were Red Chord and Despised Icon, coincidentally(though I remember the Job for a Cowboy EP being decent). I always hated how Whitechapel had a pointless extra guitarist that added literally nothing beneficial to the music(at least back when they only had 2-3 CDs)
Most Deathcore bands just don't do it for me and come off as imitators and not creators. It was the most annoying bullpoop in high school hearing scene kids talking about how Beyond the Horizon invented breakdowns and blast beats and these days I am able to tune out stupidity a lot easier, so it makes enjoying things easier. Other people don't ruin it for anymore, probably one reason my music taste seems a little different.
I have not stopped liking anything I used to, I'm just more open about what I like.
