Title: Shiny Geodude war story
Post by: Wappa on September 24, 2007, 04:11:01 PM
Well, a very short war story how I happened upon a shiny geodude. The pokemon I had in front was weak to rock, so I switched in my water type. My thinking here was that I could hit it hard enough to not make it faint, well, the dumb thing had other plans...

"Geodude used self destruct"

Me: CRAP CRAP CRAP CRAAAAAAAAAAPPPP!!!

Those were my exact words when that shiny went splody. That was also the only shiny I've seen so far in my Pearl game. :P

Yeah, next time I'm gonna have a sleeper handy  :P and something that won't kill it right away. :D

Yeah, that's a good idea. I personally never attack Shinies, but sometimes it takes me forever to actually catch them...

What I havew done for catching purposes is a high leveled Scizor with False Swipe. that will never defeat an opponent, and if you placed it in a coma, than captruing it will be easy, although I have never seen a shiny.

It's not a bad plan, but I'm paranoid. I don't want them to recoil against themselves.

In that case, check their level. Then check the Movesets they can learn from, and see which of the moves are in the last four learnings. So if it is say in Emerald a level 40 Kadabra, the move sets available to be learned is:
1 Teleport
1 Kinesis
1 Confusion
16 confusion
18 Disable
21 psybeam
23 reflect
25 recover
30 future sight
33 role play
38 psychic
43 trick

Now since it is level 40, it cannot have learned Trick.
The last four moves it learned by level are: Recover, Future sight, Role play, Psychic.

Those moves will be the ones currently held by Kadabra. It is the same kind of deal when a pokemon levels up in the daycare.

After checking their moves if there is a recoil move, then put it to sleep first, then power swipe and catch.

Struggle.  ;) My paranoia knows no bounds. I have to be particularily wary of sdtruggle, because I only, ONLY use Pokéballs, so sometimes battles get dragged out.

So you are saying that the Pokemon can use roughly 45 moves, maybe more, including how many turns it may be sleeping for, and it can still get to the point of being forced to use struggle? Wow, I didn't realize people would take that kind of time!

>.> Yeah. I'm paranoid. If I don't have anything to put it to sleep, I'll just not attack it... The last time I had an encounter was with my Shiny Rayquaza, so... the catch rate had to do with it, coupled with my use of only Pokéballs.

I usually keep a Masterball onhand to throw in the case that it's going to kill itself with Struggle.
