 All day i've been trying to figure out how much one bell (Animal Crossing) is worth in U.S. currency.

It isn't. The price proportions between items is unrealistic. Compare a shovel's price to a couch's price in real life. Now compare the same two items in their AC:WW counterparts...

A shovel costs 500 Bells, right? And a couch costs 1200 Bells usually. 700 Bell/Dollar difference. I've seen $700 couches. ::)
