Need help on Record of Lodoss War for the Dreamcast

I just recently got back into playing it and for the most part I remember how to do everything well, except I am having trouble casting any spell other than Recall. I've tried looking at the GameFAQS walkthroughs but none of them have been really helpful to me. So how do I cast other spells? Please answer soon...
