Title: do any of you work out?
Post by: Custom on November 28, 2012, 02:10:55 AM
I might have asked this before, but now it's in the srs board

i'm getting fat and weak again (i'm about 190-200 lbs)

so i figured I could make this thread for us (if any of you want to work out) to lose weight and keep track of progress

I need to start up running 3 times a week, I still do stuff with my bench every now and then though, but finals have been cutting into my time recently.

Do you guys have any routines or anything? did you gain weight from school stress, laziness, and pizza like me?

I'm planning to get up to going to the gym three times a week for at least an hour each time. For the last five weeks, I've gone twice a week. Finding time is hard :(

I have a routine. Start with breakfast. Always.

Then go with some basic cardio just to get your heart going. Either run, swim, cycle, or even just do as many jumping jacks as you can if you don't feel like doing the first three, but you should definitely advance to one of the first three after you do the routine for a couple weeks.

After you have gotten your heart rate above normal and it seems sustained, grab some 10lb weights, which eventually turn to 15lb weights, and in turn turn into 20lb weights, and so on until you feel like you should stop becoming a beefcake, basically. Obviously, lift them. Form is incredibly important. I suggest watching some weight form videos, because improper form is detrimental and can actually cause severe muscle damage.

Do push ups. Pull ups. More cardio. Stop eating pizza all the time, limit it to once or twice a week or something. Remember, its as simple as calories in<->calories out for most people. It really is. Also, get some fish oil capsules. When your body has omega-3 fatty acids in its system its like oiling a machine, makes everything go smoother, including burning fat.

On top of the arm excercises and cardio, you should do chest and leg excercises. You can find some tips for working out these areas without equipment here: http://scoobysworkshop.com/

You can also find just about everything else you need there too. Cardio and counting calories is probably the most important part of being fit, though. I gained weight when I first started college and lost like 30lbs easily just putting mild effort into it, I wasn't even as dedicated as I sound in this post, but I did it.

Do you even LIFT?

35 minutes of high-intensity cardio daily
50 pushups daily
50 situps daily
50 calf raises daily

And by daily, I mean whenever I find time. Usually 3-4 times a week. On a good week. Fuck school.

Be careful. Fish oil can be dangerous for people who don't need it.

Most people don't eat enough fish, though. High quality fish is very expensive.

I really wish I did. But 1) I have no way to get to a gym regularly because I can't afford to put my car on the road (Furthermore, paying for gym membership would be another expense on top of that) and 2) I really have no exercise equipment at home. Oh, and I don't have a whole lot of free time as it is, but whatever.

I know it's probably not really a good excuse, and I should be doing something like push-ups at home or whatever. I just usually forget to until right when I'm about to fall asleep. Of course.

Working out is easier once you've built up some strength doing some smaller work outs.

When you're watching something, decide a set time(or doing advertisements) period to do push ups or jumping jacks or whatever. Don't stop until the commercial break or whatever is over. Resume. Repeat. I have an acquaintance that did this before he went into full blown work out mode. Seems to work.

I've totally heard the commercial break thing before, and it actually sounds like a really good and easy-to-follow idea. Problem is, the only time I watch TV is when it's after midnight and I'm trying to get all tired so i can sleep. I could probably manage some push-ups in the early hours, though.

Yeah that would be a problem.

Try doing some about ten minutes after breakfast. You have to experiment and find out what works for you. It'd be too easy if the same techniques worked for everyone.

>breakfast

I normally end up sleeping in until about 10 minutes before my bus comes and I have lunch pretty early in the day so that kind of ends up being my breakfast. Because yeah, when I can't possibly get to sleep before midnight and school starts at 7:45, I hang onto every possible minute of sleep I can get. And half the time I end up falling asleep as soon as I get home because I usually only get about 4-5 good hours at night, if that. Sucks. I suppose right before dinner time is really my best option.

I think I might start, because I'm getting fat(ter) and it sucks.

Also don't eat as much.

It's pretty much as simple as: Calories in/Calories out. People really exaggerate how complicated it is. If you have some pizza that day, chill out on anything else unless its something small.

If you guys want to know of a really good app for this kind of thing, check out Noom. It combines a Food Diary, Exercise Log, and Weight Log all into one. It's really, really useful.

3 posts down.  We did good, as I would have thought it would have been the second post.

And no, I don't work out D:  ~160 pounds.  If I go over 165, I get disappointed in myself, but I seem to maintain the 16[01234] range pretty well.

REMEMBER

muscle mass is good

fat is not

if you are actually working out and not being a piece of poop then chances are you're losing fat and gaining muscle, which weighs more and then weighing yourself and thinking you aren't making progress when you actually are, you're just losing fat. Often times its best not to weigh yourself more than necessary.

now that i'm finished with these run on sentences i'm going to chug this beer and then go to intercourse ing sleep because i've admittedly been terrible this spring break when it comes to working out so remember not to pay as much attention to that intercourse ing weight number as you are and if you do use kilograms this isn't 1776 anymore

Muscle mass or not, I'd still rather not weigh more than 200. Especially because according to my parents, all extra weight is fat, so whatever.
