Post by: Totla on December 17, 2008, 05:31:23 PM
This is the thread for stuff to do with the scrim team.
If you're on it, or want to be on it, message me or Silver and we'll add you to the list.

Also, we need to plan some practices, so start throwing out some possible dates/times.

Persons:
Darklink
Totla
Silverhawk
Jono2
Hishipi
Red Alert
Ultimate Umbreon
CustomRobo
Noodle
Omega
EvilSpud
Linkfan
LightningSword
DDantas
IceFlinger

If I added your steam name and your forum name, tell me so I can fix that.

not available saturday or sunday, but available until January (and probably past that, don't think homework will be too heavy).

I'm available whenever, for the time being.

I'll also be accepting PM's for entrances. If you know a friend who is good at the game, convince them to join, we need the help.

you can't flex combat with non-combat, because it gets too difficult for the medic. Also, we can't have this many heavies. 1 heavy is plenty.

In competitive play, spies suck at taking out sentries. They are there to get surprise kills on the medic, and that's it. They are highly situational and hardly ever used.

Spies suck at killing sentries anyways.  that's what demomen are for. :\

When you go spy, you go spy for one life and one life only.  there's no point after that.

Soldier with flex of Demo.
we can't have any demo flexes. Rules in 6v6 state that only one demo is allowed, so it's much simpler if we have a permanent demo, as it's a huge hassle to change that (like medic).

Also, no pyros, ever. When they have a medic, they put the medic in danger, and when they don't, they can't kill any other class. With an uber the only class they can catch is a heavy, which is not worth wasting an uber on.

Okay, so lets set up what we have so far on classes.

Scout:
Hishipi
Brett (Flex)

Soldier:
Darklink
Totla (Flex)

Demoman:
Totla
Darklink (Flex if Totla isn't there or if 2 demos are allowed by the teams)

Heavy:
Jono
Silver
Brett
(We'll work this out later)

Medic:
Link3588

Sniper:
Silver (Flex)
Hishipi (Flex)

There. Feel free to add this to the first post or inform me of a mistake.

I can flex Scout. Yesterday I got 11 kills in one life as Scout while defending the middle point of Granary on the NSF Server.

okay then, it sounds like a good lineup for you guys would be:

2 scouts (hishipi flex sniper)
1 soldier
1 heavy
1 demo
1 medic

That's assuming all the right people show up.

2 heavies are too hard for a medic to keep healed and just become sniper fodder. You shouldn't have more than 1 heavy 6v6.
Title: Re: Official Thread for the Scrim Team

i can go heavy or soldier.  I'm an okay demoman, and i'd rather heavy or soldier than medic.

I used to be able to scout, but I haven't been nearly as good lately.  when I get that back, I'll think of going back.

Actually, too many scouts can lead to not enough offensive push and defensive strength. So I would actually say replacing one of those scouts with something else would be nice.

that's not true at all; scouts can only be offensive.

if you swap out a scout then the team will be destroyed by good scout duos. Up to you.

scouts work very well defensively.

good scout duos?  If we end up playing good scout duos, we'll be destroyed anyways, as we don't have a good scout duo ourselves.
Title: Re: Official Thread for the Scrim Team
Post by: Red Alert on December 23, 2008, 09:42:00 PM
um, I don't think you quite understand what 'defensive' means. Scouts are a glass cannon; if they aren't being offensive they are dying.

Also, if they have a good scout duo, you can at least give them trouble with 2 scouts. If you have 1 scout and they have 2, your one won't be able to do much at all if the other 2 stick together. Also, swapping the scout for a combat class makes it hard for the medic to keep everyone healed.

Alright guys, i'm not on the team, nor am I in any leagues at the moment, but standard 6v6 is 2 soldiers, 2 scouts, 1 demo, and 1 medic.

Heavies are too slow for the fast paced nature of 6v6, and scouts tear them (and their medic) apart.
As said in the thread before, spys are situational. Made to take out a(n uber) medic, and run away. not to try and take on soldiers or demos.
Sniper isn't used in clan matches, except very rarely, when you have a very good offensive sniper. (doesn't hang way in the back. up in the action, taking out medics.)
Engies are never used, a waste of time because a single uber wipes them out.
And pyros are useless against soldiers, which are used quite frequently.

Just thought I'd point out a few things.
By the way, let me know when you guys get into an actual league. (IE, TWL)

yes, I was in CAL and CEVO. My first clan was paroxysm and I switched to shears, but my connection was too shaky to play with the latter. I know that good heavies do most certainly not get decimated in a few seconds.

no, but there is also no one here who is near that level with any of the classes, so it certainly doesn't hurt to run a heavy. As long as they know when to hide a natasha heavy can really stop the other team's scouts in their tracks.

I'll do it. I have substituted for Silver once, and managed to bring myself to the top of our list. That's not to say we weren't wrecked.

CriticalDesign is my SteamID.

i've been balls for the last month, and I've lost ground in everything but arena.

However, I have definitely gotten better at Soldier, and I am slowly regaining my once godly Scout skills.

Okay, I can learn a good amount of that stuff by watching people play MLG Halo :/. Yeah, some people might want to read that, it has some good tips if you really don't much about playing competitively.

the entire Class Responsibilities section and pretty much everything after Communication are exclusive to tf2. Maybe you should read it again.

we need to learn to work together, and we need less lone wolves.  We also need to decide who's playing, who's not, and what they're playing.

no, I meant our previous NSF team, not your CEVO team.

not trying to sound stuck up or anything, but just because you leave doesn't mean that we (everyone else) can't still have a get together and practice a bit every once in a while.

get the cevo server cfg's (I can't do this, don't have ftp, you could play on their server though)

get 6 players

get on #gamesurge in irc

then join #tf2scrim

say: looking for 6v6

wait like 5 seconds until you get a response

Didn't know you guys scrimmed.

My clan use to scrim and even joined TWL but we never really did anything with it. We could never get the number of people we needed, and our scheduler was horrible at his job. Pretty much just picked whatever time HE could play, no matter if we couldn't.

Speaking of which. Our clan was thinking of getting back into Scrimming, and maybe rejoining TWL over the summer.

Would you guys mind scrimming us?

We generally do 9v9 highlander, but It doesn't really matter, we can go with whatever you guys do.

I should, once I have more time, espcially after school's over.

Basically, a team that scrims.

Group of people, clan more or less, who get together regularly to play competitivley with other clans.
