Title: Helaman Squadron: The Cornerian Human
Post by: starfoxherosj on October 15, 2007, 04:33:01 PM
Preview:

Richard Stryker is not your average teenager.  The only human to be born on Corneria, He is very different, and when his parents, two ace fighter pilots on  A part of the Star Fox team called "Helaman Squadron" disappear, along with the rest of their squadron, he has to live on the Great Fox.  The only things that remind him of his past are a picture of him, his dad, Fox and James McCloud, and his father's Bible and Book of Mormon.  (I swear I will not get religious in this story)
At the age of Fourteen, he joins the Star Fox team.  Good thing to, because the Nintendo universe is in a war with Microsoft and Sony, and when the leader of the Microsoft Army starts to get an interest in "Hero", everything starts to take a turn for the worst.

The first part of a Trilogy,  I really hope you like it!

This is TEH FIRST CHAPTER!!!111!!!! :D

Chapter 1:  The First Mission.

A teenage boy headed to his Arwing in the hangar of the Great Fox.  He had just received his first mission.  He wasn't very old.  At fourteen years, he was the youngest member of the Star Fox team.  He was also the most inexperienced, this being his very first assignment.  Another interesting thing about him was that he was human.  Everyone else on the Star Fox team are anthromorphic animals, simply put, they are animals that have the body and mind of a human (excluding their tails)
His hair was brown, with the exception of a white stripe down the middle of it.  The other funny thing about his hair is that he fashions it to look sort of like fox ears. (Well, as much as human hair can go)  He had eyes the color of almonds and his outfit was extremely similar to that worn by Fox during the Rebellion of the Venoman Armada and the Aparoid War.  The only major differences were the fact that around his neck, the boy wore a red scarf tied to look like a thin cape and there was no hole for a tail.
The boy leaped into his fighter and prepared for launch.  The image of Captain Fox McCloud appeared on his communicator screen.  He had a look of pride, worry and authority on his face.
"You know your mission." Fox said, "The capital city of Sega, our closest ally is under attack from the Microsoft Army.  Your job is to protect the evacuation of the city's civilian population, and to make sure there are survivors."  He closed his eyes.  "I needn't tell you this will be a dangerous mission and I regret that all the other pilots are elsewhere, but I want you to try your best.  However, even if you fail all your objectives, as long as you come back alive, that is enough of a success for me."
"Gotcha." The boy replied, "Release the lift-locks and let's start this thing!"  This was it.  This was the moment he had trained for.  He felt the jolt of his first launch into combat.  He saw the blue-and-silver paint job of his fighter glisten in the morning sunrise.  The scene seemed right out of a painting; it was hard to imagine the boy was on his way to war.  The fact became more and more apparent as he got closer to where he was going.
The scene at the city was horrific.  Buildings were demolished; others were being used as bunkers.  The boy could not imagine this was the city it once was.  This city was supposed to be a wonderful place during peace time, but now it was a mere skeleton of what it once was.  This is the reality of war, a scene the boy would remember for years to come.  However, he had to be on with his mission.  How much good could he be just flying around in circles?

Suddenly, a fighter formed up on the boy's left wing.  The boy was relieved when he realized that the fighter was from Sega.
"Lieutenant Prower to Arwing!"  The pilot said.
"Yes, Lieutenant?"  The boy asked, grinning.  He was glad that whoever this was, they weren't going to attack him.  "It appears that you guys are throwing a party.  However it appears you didn't invite me.  Can I crash?"
"Sure," Lieutenant Prower replied, "right after you tell me your name.
"I am Richard Stryker, but everyone calls me Hero." The boy said, "The Star Fox team sent me!"
"We really need you on the ground.  There are a couple of people I want you to meet.  Their names are Red and Blue.  Just land, and they will find you wherever that maybe".
"Okay!" Richard shouted, "It won't be too hard to find a place to land!  I'll be there momentarily!"  And with that, the adventure began.

dum da da dum!  TEH SECOND CHAPTER!!!11!!!!!!!!!111!!
Chapter 2: Face to Face With War

Richard landed in the southern streets of the city.  He hopped out of his Arwing and stepped into the fray.  He pulled out his machine gun and ran for cover.  Three bullets were fired inches above his head by the enemy.  He had cut it too close.
The situation was worse then he thought.  The enemy had taken control of the northern end of town and was headed his way!  The sky was red with fire.  Bullets flew everywhere and he could hear the explosions from the front.  He watched as one of the fighters defending the town exploded and its partner dropped from the sky.  He did not see the pilot eject.  It made Hero wonder if and how the war would end.
Richard heard Lieutenant Prower's voice over the radio.  "Stryker, Blue is pinned down in a two-story house not that far north of your present position." He said, "Be careful!  Enemy Spartans are storming the building as we speak!"
"Gotcha Lieutenant." Hero replied.  He headed north towards the house Red and Blue were in.
   "Oh, and Stryker?"
   "Yes?"
"Call me by my nickname, Tails."

Richard found the building among all the rubble.  Miraculously, it had been the only building on the block not destroyed by Microsoft artillery fire.  It may have been intact, but it had seen better days.  The door was blown off its hinges, the windows were shattered, the exterior walls were crumbly-looking and the front yard was cluttered with shrapnel.  Nevertheless, Hero was glad he could get to it quick enough.  He headed for the opening where the door used to be.
Suddenly, he was jumped.  Richard was staring a Microsoft soldier right in the face, clutching his machine gun.  The soldier overpowered Richard, knocking him down and getting ready for the final blow.  No! This was his first mission and already he was a goner!
Richard heard a laser gun fired from inside the door.  The soldier fell away from the door.  Richard was relieved that he had been saved.
He turned to the door and saw a boy a couple years older then him wearing a blue-and-white jacket and a solid blue headband.  Richard knew this was probably one of the guys he was looking for.
"So," The boy said in a smart-Alec tone of voice, "You must be Stryker."  He stared at Richard and chuckled.  "Funny thing, but I imagined you to be a bit...oh...I don't know...older?"
"Hey!" Richard snapped, "Just because I'm new, doesn't mean I'm not a good soldier!  Fox McCloud sent me himself!"
"Fox McCloud sent you?" The boy replied, "I'm sorry, I didn't realize that the Star Fox team was drafting little kids!"
"You are really starting to tick me off!" Richard growled, "Who are you and how do you know my name?"
"My name is Blue." The boy said, "I am part of Sega's elite team known as the Gunstars."  He laughed.  "I see you have absolutely no battlefield experience.  Allow me to show you how the professionals do it."
"Yeah, professionals my foot!" Richard replied, "I don't believe I came here for a lecture on the finer points of running fast!" He looked Blue straight in the eye. "I came here because I was told to save your butts!"
Suddenly Tails radioed in.  "Blue! We need you in the air ASAP!  We have bogeys inbound!"
   "What?" Richard replied, "How many?"
   "You don't 'wanna know."
"Besides," Blue said, "He wasn't talking to you, Stryker."
"Blue, bring Stryker with you." Tails replied, "A Star Fox member like him will come in handy in a large scale dogfight."
"Yeah, yeah...I'll bring the kid." Blue moaned, "Don't get in my way, Stryker."
"As long as you don't get in mine, I think I'll be fine." Richard replied.
"Hero, landed nearby your hanger." Tails said, "I'll inform Red that you two are coming.  Take off quickly, you will be under heavy fire."
"Gotcha." Blue replied, "We are on our way now."  He looked at Richard and grinned.  "Okay kid, let's see what you got!"

Richard and Blue got to the hangar quickly.  Someone was waiting for them at the entrance, ducking down behind some cover.  "There you are Blue!" The person said, "We were supposed to take off three minutes ago!  I thought you had been killed!"
"Jeez, Red!" Blue replied, "You always worry too much about me!  Give me a break for once!" He buried his head in his right hand.  "Dang! You can be such a pain sometimes!"
"Sometimes it's hard to believe you are more experienced then me on the battlefield!" Red shouted, "Jeez! Boys can be so frustrating!"
"Wait..." Richard started, talking to Red, "You are a girl?"
"And you have a problem with that?"
   "No...You just...look like a guy."
Red sighed. "Like I haven't heard that before!" She shouted, "Who are you anyway?"
"I'm Hero." Richard replied, "I'm the guy that Star Fox sent."
"How long have you been fighting?"
   "First day on the job."
"When I found him, he was about to get the crud knocked out of him by an enemy soldier." Blue added, "Lucky for him, I was there to save his neck."
"And then you almost get him killed!" Red shouted, "Honestly Blue, I think you are way too reckless!"
"That's what you love about me."
"Can we just get on with our mission?" Richard interrupted.
"Okay Hero." Red said, "President Sonic is seeing to a couple of things before he evacuates the city, and he is still in the capital building.  Our job is to give him cover until he gets back.  Hero, you form up on my wing when you get off the ground."
"Gotcha!" Richard replied, "See you guys in the air!" The trio split up.

Now here's where the action begins.

Chapter 3: The Fall of Sega City

Richard got off the ground first.  He looked around for Red and Blue, but found no trace of them anywhere.  He looked to the hangar.  No fighters had gotten airborne since he had taken off.  He couldn't wait any longer.  He had to start this mission alone.
Suddenly, Richard heard a loud explosion coming from the direction of the hangar.  He looked back to see what had happened.  The hangar had been hit!  Fire engulfed the hangar and it lay in ruin.  Richard was shocked.  "Dang it!" He shouted, certain Red and Blue were dead.
Two fighters flew up next to Richard, one on each side.  He looked around him, and was relieved when he saw that the fighters belonged to Red and Blue.  "Are you guys alright?" He asked, still in shock from the explosion.
"Don't worry about us kid." Blue replied, "Trust me.  We've had closer calls than that!"
"Concentrate on the mission, guys!" Red shouted, "I don't want to lose either of you!"
"Sheesh!" Richard said, "Don't say that!  You sound like Fox!"
Tails flew by the formation and looked at the three fighters.  "Good job Blue!" He said, "You and your girlfriend got out before that hangar blew!"  He was trying to lighten up the situation for everyone by making a joke.  It worked. (Also, Red and Blue both blushed, a side benefit)
"Oh, really?" Richard laughed. He looked at Red and Blue. "You two are a couple?  I didn't know that!"
"Stop it Hero!" Red shouted, still blushing, "We have to get on with our mission!"
"Gotcha!" Richard replied, "You two try not to mess things up.  Just to let you know, I really don't like that mushy stuff that much."

Richard headed for the enemy fighters.  There were many swarming the sky like bees.  Richard couldn't even count the number of fighters there were.  Then he realized that he had boosted away from Red and Blue.  He knew he might be able to take them all out himself, but it would be very hard.
He charged the fighters, expecting the worst.  Amazingly, the fighters flew right by him, not firing a shot.  It was as if he wasn't there.  When he broke through the swarm, there wasn't a scratch on him.  He turned around and watched as a single Microsoft fighter made a U-turn and headed for him.  This was Richard's first live target.
Richard and his opponent were heading straight at each other.  Suddenly, the Microsoft fighter made a quick move down and to the left.  Richard looked around for his enemy, but couldn't find it.  Then he saw a shot coming from behind barely miss him.  The enemy had maneuvered right behind him!
Thinking fast, Richard dived down into an area of the city that was still intact.  He turned at every street corner, trying to lose his foe, but with no such luck.  He then noticed something about his opponent that he previously was unaware of: His opponent could not maneuver through tight spaces very well.
Immediately, he went sideways and flew into an alley.  Just as he thought, his enemy did not follow him, but instead flew out of the urban streets and continued the chase.
   Richard knew he had won.
He made a U-turn out of the urban streets.  His foe was headed straight for him, and was right in his crosshairs.  Richard opened fire on the target, blowing off the wing.  The foe spun out of control into a Microsoft Anti-Air vehicle and burst into flames.  "Serves you right!" Richard taunted.
Soon after, Red and Blue appeared on the scene.  "Good to see your faces again!" He shouted, "I was beginning to think that you weren't 'gonna get here!
"I wish I could say the same!" Red replied, "There's a bogey on my six!"
Blue watched Red hopelessly try to shake her foe.  He couldn't wait any longer.  "Red!  I'm maneuvering for a shot!  Hang on!" He shouted.
"No Blue, you don't have time!" Red replied, "You have to protect the capital!"
"I'm not about to sit here and watch you die!"
"It's too late!  There's nothing you can do!"
Richard smirked.  "I got it." He said.  He turned and faced Red head-on.
Red had no idea what he was planning.  "What the heck are you doing?" She shouted, "You'll kill us both!"  Hero did not answer.  "Get out of here NOW!"  They were about to collide.  Red flinched, pulling out just before the collision.
"Perfect!" Richard shouted, "Just what I needed you to do!"
The bogey had no time to react.   The sudden change of events made him freeze up. With one burst of Richard's lasers, the fighter exploded.  It had all happened in a matter of seconds.

Richard flew over to the capital.  What he saw startled him.  "There's a whole column of Microsoft BattleMechs approaching the capital building!" He shouted.
"Stryker, can you identify the class?" Tails said.
"I really can't."
"I'll be right there!"
When Tails made it to the capital building he identified the class immediately.  "Shoot! It's a bunch of Atlas!" He shouted, "We have to get out of here!  Punch the Afterburner!"
Richard went hypersonic before he broke formation and headed for the Great Fox.  He never looked back on Sega City for a moment.  Once he thought about going back, but then he realized that he didn't have enough fuel.  He continued on his present course.

Sry about being a day late.
Chapter 4: The Silver Lining

Richard was just about out of fuel when he reached the Great Fox.  "Fox, I'm coming in for a landing." He sighed.  He was all lined up, ready to go.
"Rodger," Fox replied, "We are all set for you to land."
Just then, Richard heard a loud explosion coming from the direction of Sega City.  He nearly lost control of his Arwing, and had to line up for the landing again from a shorter distance.
He was luckily able to land safely.

When Richard landed in the hangar, he noticed that no-one else had come back from their missions yet.  The only other fighter in the hangar was that of Fox McCloud.  It was just now that he realized that even though his mission felt like it took a long time, it was really about an hour or two from the time he took off to the time he landed on the Great Fox.
His mind snapped back to the present when a message came over the intercom.  The voice was that of ROB, The Star Fox team's navigation robot.
"Richard Stryker please report to the bridge" ROB said.  Immediately, Richard ran up to the Great Fox's bridge, not knowing what awaited him.  It could be good news, or it could make him freeze up.  Either way, he was called up to the bridge
The bridge, like the hangar, was barren.  The only other people on the bridge were Fox and ROB.  ROB was sitting at the controls of the giant warship, and Fox was standing at the entrance to the bridge with his arms folded behind him.  His face was both reverent and demanding, the face of a true leader.
"Well Richard," Fox said, "You had quite a hard time out there.  I have to admit, I was a little worried." He closed his eyes for a second and then opened them again.  "I am glad you came back."
Richard had many questions swarming through his head.  He had to get at least one of them off his chest.   "I heard an explosion behind me when I went to land."  He said, "I lost my focus and almost crashed trying to land on the Great Fox.  What was it?"
Fox sighed, "Unfortunately, that was the capital building.  A group of Atlas 'Mechs opened fire on the complex."
"Is the President alright?"
"No..." Fox replied, "President Sonic is dead."
Hero was shocked.  "W-What about the Gunstars, a-and Lieutenant Prower?" He asked.
"I'm sorry, Richard." Fox replied, looking towards the ground, "We lost contact with Lieutenant Prower shortly after you came back."
Richard couldn't believe it!  He buried his head in his hands.  "No!" He cried, "How could I have let this happen?"
Fox looked at the Great Fox Heads-up display on the wall.  "Your father had a hard time on his first mission." He sighed, "I remember looking at him, all beat up after he crashed his fighter running out of fuel when he went to land." He laughed, "When I asked him what had happened, he looked at me straight in the eye and said: 'I messed up big time, Foxie!'"
   "What happened next?
"My dad gave him another Arwing!  That was the only thing he could do!"
Suddenly, the alarm blared.  Red lights flickered slowly, blinding Richard for a short time.  Fox was not quite sure of the situation.  "ROB!  What's wrong?" He asked
"Enemy fighters approaching." ROB replied, "Three fighters are right in front of the group, intentions are unknown."
"Patch a line to the three fighters!" Fox ordered.
ROB quickly brought up communications with the three fighters.  Fox looked at the communicator.  "This is Commander Fox McCloud of the Great Fox." Fox said, "State intentions or we will open fire on you."
"This is Lieutenant Miles Prower!  Mayday! Mayday!  I am being pursued by Microsoft fighters! Request assistance!"
"Tails?  Is it really you?" Richard asked, "Are the Gunstars okay?"
"Yes we are!" Blue replied, "You thought you could get rid of me that easily?"
Fox looked at Richard.  "Richard, the one silver lining is that you, the Gunstars and the Lieutenant are all okay." He said, "I need you to get to your Arwing ASAP!  That's an order!"
"Gotcha!" Richard replied, "See you in a couple minutes guys!"  With that, he ran to the hangar.

Hey, at least I'm not on strike!

Chapter 5: Charging In

Richard sped down to the hangar.  His Arwing was refueled, so he was all ready for take-off.  He hopped in and buckled down, joining himself with the fighter.  There was nothing stopping him now.
The lift lock was released, and he was shot out of the ship into what looked like a beautiful sunset.  Richard trembled, knowing that the sunset was actually the flames rising from the burning city.  He tried to keep his mind off it.  He was sent out to save Tails and the Gunstars, and he couldn't waste a single second.
He got a radio message from Blue.  "You're late, kid."  He smiled, "We could've died by now."
"Good to see you too, Blue." Richard muttered.  He was getting ticked at this guy.  First, Blue mocked him for being a newbie, now he's complaining about Hero being tardy!  "Just what's your problem with me anyway?"  His voice was now shouting.
"Calm down, you two!" Red shouted, "If you both keep arguing, we will all die!"
"You're right."  Richard replied, "We have to get serious."  Richard thought for a moment before planning his next move.  He knew that if he made the wrong move, he would die.  "Well, I guess I will have to break through the group to try to get them off your tails."
"Negative Hero!" Tails shouted, "These fighters are drones!  They aren't risking human life!  They will just ram you!"
   "What?" Richard gasped, "Drones?  Dang!"
"We gotta take these drones out, guys!" Red shouted, "Who knows what will happen if we don't?"
"Easier said than done..." Blue muttered, "Looks to me like the four of us are in big trouble."
"Enough talk!" Tails shouted, "Let's move!"  At that point, Richard dove into the drones and started to spin his fighter.  Red and Blue broke off Tails' wing and watched in awe at the seemingly suicidal charge.
When it was all done, many of the drones were taken out, and there was a big gap in the enemy formation.  Richard wasn't scratched.  "That is the barrel roll attack." Richard boasted, "I really like it, don't you?"
"Showoff..." Blue muttered in return.  He went through himself and ripped another hole in the formation.  Even with the two devastating blows, the fighters kept flying in formation.
Suddenly, it struck Fox what they were doing.  "All fighters fall back!" He shouted, "That's an order!"  There was tension in his voice.  Sweat was running down his forehead and his palms were soaked.
   "Why?" Richard asked, "What's wrong?"
"They didn't send these drones to kill you guys without loss of life."  Fox replied, "All pilots have one last trick up their sleeve that no live pilot would dare ever use.  Drone however can pull this trick out of their hats.  They didn't come to kill you...they came here to ram the Great Fox."
   "No way!" Richard gasped.
"Hero, take out these drones at any cost, you hear me?"
"Y-Yes Sir!"  Richard shouted as he chased the swarm of drones.

Richard rushed for the drones.  The fate of home and friends was not something that was typically placed on the shoulders of an ordinary fourteen year old boy.  But then again, Richard was never an ordinary boy period.  He reminded himself that now was not the time to ponder the course his life had taken him.  If he made one mistake, just one tiny screw-up, the Great Fox was doomed.
Then it hit him.  The conflict in Sega City had worn him out.  Fatigue was starting to set in.  His palms were sweating, and so was his forehead.  What were they thinking?  There was no way he could pull this off!
Things just went worse from there.  The world started to go black around the edges of his eyes.  It was spreading inward.  It eventually got to where it was like he was looking through a straw, and it was still shrinking.  Richard knew what was happening.  He had heard about this from Fox many times.
Richard was experiencing tunnel-vision.  The fatigue was now just moments away from doing him in.  Richard was about to go into a complete blackout.  No!  Not now!  If he blacked out, even for a couple of seconds, he was dead.
But right now it didn't seem like there was much he could do about it.
Red realized something was wrong.  She immediately radioed to Blue.  "Blue, Hero needs our help!" She shouted.
"Forget it, Red." Blue replied, "We have our own things to worry about.  There's nothing we can do for him."  He sighed.  "If we try to help, we will just get in his way."
   "If we don't help him..."
"Right now if we don't help ourselves, we'll die!"
There was a silence over the radio.  Nothing happened.  It was as if time froze, waiting for Red to reply.  Red knew that, whichever choice she picked, chances were that someone would die.  For that one moment she was the hand of the Roman Emperor, Her position decided who lives and who dies.  If she chose to stay with Blue, Hero would certainly die, and if she chose to go help Hero, she would probably be killed.
Red made up her mind.  "I'm sorry, Blue." She said, "I am going to go help Hero."
   "What?" Blue gasped.
"The fact is Hero is not just doing this just to get a couple of kills under his belt, he is trying to save the Great Fox."  She replied, "More than that, Hero is in trouble, and as Gunstars, we should help him."
   "Red! Don't!"

Just then, a huge explosion came from the direction of the Great Fox.  It was a brilliant white explosion, like nothing either Gunstar had ever seen before.  No-one knew what had happened, and everyone expected the worst.
When the dust cleared, all the drones were destroyed.  Red, Blue and Tails saw a ship and a fighter unharmed among it all.
"Dang! That was pretty harsh! I am not sure I want to do that again."
It was Hero.  He was okay.
"Hero!" Red shouted in relief, "I thought you were killed!"
"You worry about your boyfriend."  Hero said, "Me, I'll be perfectly okay."

Chapter 6: A Team Comes Together

Richard was relieved when he destroyed the enemy drones.  He leaned back in his seat and relaxed.  He could relax now and sure as heck, he deserved it.
Suddenly, some lasers and a blur flew by him so fast that it made him jump.  When he came to his senses, he had realized that his nose was pointing down.  He pulled up quickly, not knowing how close to the ground he was.  He looked up and he saw a Microsoft fighter moving in to engage him.
"Bandit spotted!" Richard shouted, "Do I have permission to engage?"
"Permission granted, Hero." Fox replied from the bridge of the Great Fox, "Show him what a Stryker is made of!"
"Gotcha Captain!" Richard cheered, "This one's mine!"  He turned around to engage the enemy fighter, and noticed the enemy fighter coming at him again!  Another burst of laser fire.  This one passing over his left wing.  When the fighter passed by, another burst came at him, this one came from beneath him.  Was this the same fighter?  No.  It couldn't have been.  The enemy had just passed behind him, not below him.
It had to be another fighter.
While the one fighter was attacking Richard head on, his wingman was at surface level, waiting for the right time to climb up and strike at him.  Richard couldn't believe it! He was being double-teamed!
Richard jinxed right.  Sure enough, another fighter passed him from below.  He put on the booster and shot up after the fighter.  The fighter's engine gave out after a single burst of his lasers.  Richard moved out of the way fast enough to get out of the way of the dropping fighter.  Then, he heard an explosion right behind him.
Apparently, when Richard charged up after the second fighter, the first fighter gave chase.  The pilot had no idea of the dropping fighter until it was too late, and the two fighters collided.  Richard figured that both pilots were killed in the collision.  He felt bad for them, though they were his enemy.
His pity was lost when another laser burst flew across his nose.  There was another fighter coming at him, he just knew it!  Dang!  Would these guys ever stop?  What threat could a fourteen-year-old boy possibly be?  Again he had to remind himself that this was not the time for pondering.  He had to think fast if he was to have any chance of surviving.  There was no way he was going to get overwhelmed.
Too late.  The enemy fighter had gotten behind him.  There was no chance that he could escape his fate now.
Tails, Red and Blue looked in shock as what appeared to be Hero's last moments.  Then three streaks of silver and blue zipped past them.  More enemies?  The trio trembled in fear at the thought of what might happen next.
Then the enemy fighter exploded.  At this point, no-one knew what had just happened.  Everyone wondered about Hero's safety.
Then the three fighters slowed down and formed up with Hero in a diamond formation.  Now the three fighters were identifiable.
They were Arwings. It was the rest of the Star Fox team.
"Falco! Slippy! Krystal!"  Richard cheered, "What took you so long?"
"Sorry, buddy!" Falco replied, "We got jumped by some Microsoft fighters on our way back as well!"
"Hey, don't sweat it!" Richard said, "I'm a Stryker, remember?"
"Yeah, I know..." Falco sighed, "And you're cocky, just like your father."
"We were worried about you, Richard." Krystal said, "You're just a kid!"
"It's good to see you're okay though!" Slippy chimed in.
Suddenly, a panicked message came over the radio.  "Guys! There's a bogey on my tail and I can't lose him! I need help!"  It was Red.  She was in trouble.
"Don't worry Red!" Blue shouted, "I'm here to help!"
Blue rushed to help his friend.  He went head–to-head with the fighters.  The fighters flew by him for what seemed like an eternity.  He saw the face of the pilot of the Microsoft fighter.  He immediately recognized the pilot's face.  His body froze up on him; he couldn't move a muscle.  This was something he never expected to see.
He could hear Red's voice in the background:  "Blue! He's got a lock on me!  I can't hold him any longer!  Help me!"  And yet, Blue never did pull into the engagement.  There was one thing standing in his way.  Suddenly, a fighter passed from behind Blue and did a U-turn, giving chase to the bandit.
To Blue's surprise, it was none other than Fox McCloud.

Fox pulled in behind the bogey and brought up his Lock-on.  He eventually got tone on the foe and stayed behind him for about a second.  The enemy pulled away from Red and headed the other way.  Not a shot had been fired.  "Textbook engagement." Fox said, "I wish I had been able to get out here earlier."  He grinned.  "Return to base team."

Had a scare today, I thought that my fanfic had been deleted.
Thenh I realized I wasn't logged in.
oh well...

Chapter 7: Blockaded!

The eight fighters landed on the Great Fox.  Richard jumped out of his Arwing and looked around to make sure everyone was okay.  He was ready to jump again at a moment's notice.  Microsoft fighters could be inbound as he stood there and they wouldn't even know it!
Suddenly, a fighter was spotted heading for the Great Fox's hangar.  Richard hopped back in his fighter.  Was he ever going to get a break?  That was the last thing he worried about as he started up his engines for one last run that day.
Then a radio transmission came through, there was a lot of static, so the radio message was hard to understand.  "This...Gun...Yel...Permi...to la...aboa...eat...ox..."
"This is Captain Fox McCloud of the Great Fox, Please repeat your message."
"This is Gunstar Yellow!  Permission to land aboard Great Fox Sir!?!"
Red screamed with joy.  "Captain!  You 'gotta let her in!"  She shouted.
"Looks like my decision's been made up for me." Fox grinned, "Permission granted, Gunstar, Welcome aboard!"
Hero shut down his Arwing.  He was extremely relieved that he didn't have to go out again.

The friendly fighter landed on the Great Fox.  It docked and an attractive lady somewhere in her late teens-early twenties climbed out.  She looked way more mature than that though, as she appeared to be an experienced pilot.  There was something about her that kind of intrigued Richard; she looked like she was hiding a fact deep down inside her
But he could tell that she wasn't thinking about it at the moment.  There was a look of desperation on her face, as if she was running from something.
Then she looked right at Fox.  "We have to get out of here!" She shouted, "Microsoft is gonna attack us!  There's no time!"
"How do you know?" Slippy replied, arms folded, "Our close-range scanners are not picking up anything!"
"I saw some Mad Cat 'Mechs out on the mountain top!  They could strike at any-"
Just then the Great Fox shook.  "ROB! What happened?"  Fox shouted.
"We have been struck by a volley of Long-Range Missiles."  ROB replied, "Minimal damage to the port side."
"Fire a missile now!" Fox shouted, "Show them we won't fall without a fight!"
Richard was ready to help.  "Fox, I am going to take off and give the Great Fox some cover."
"Negative!" Fox replied, "Everyone up to the bridge!  I don't want anyone down here with all the fuel!"

The group rushed to the bridge as fast as they could.  "ROB!  What's the situation?" Fox shouted.
"We are surrounded by a large group of Mad Cats." ROB replied, "Chance of Survival: seven percent"
"Then let's get outta here!" Richard shouted, "These guys are just gonna keep coming!"
"I dunno, I guess we have to try it." Fox said, "I have a bad feeling about this.  Something tells me that group of 'Mechs didn't just come from a nearby base..."

The Great Fox entered orbit around the planet.  Richard looked around at the violent scene in front of him.  He couldn't believe it!  They had been bushwhacked!  The planet had been blockaded by a Microsoft Armada!  The space around the planet was orange with flames from Sega warships trying to, if not weaken, break through the armada and escape.
"Darn it!"  Slippy shouted, "How could this have happened?"
"We should have expected it when our orbital scanners went down!" Tails replied.
"What?" Fox shouted, "You should tell us this stuff before you call us in Lieutenant!" He sneered at Tails.  "That is vital information!  If we would have known that, we would have come better prepared"
"Well, I am only eight years old!" Tails replied, "I'm not a grown up like the rest of you!"
"Eight years old?" Falco asked, "How are you even in the military?"
"Same way I got in Falco," Richard replied, "I pulled some strings!"
"Uh...Fox, you should see this." ROB said.
"What is it?"
"There is a signal in the orbital scanners that is rather disturbing."
"Go on."
"The signal is giving the order to fire on the planet.  The firepower of this fleet won't blow it up, but it will do a heavy amount of damage to the population."
"DARN IT ROB!!!" Fox shouted, "FIRE EVERY MISSILE IN THE SALVO AND GET US OUTTA HERE!!!"
ROB fired all of the missiles.  All of the missiles hit and destroyed their targets.  When they were about to warp out, one ship caught Richard's eye.
It was called the Pillar of Autumn.

Chapter 8: Inheritance

Richard looked back on the planet one last time as he passed through the warp gate.  All of the memories stuck to him and the rest of the men and women on the Great Fox.  It drove Richard nuts that he couldn't do anything to stop the destruction, but it was too late.
"We are now in orbit around Corneria." ROB said, "At least we are out of that mess."
"Watch it, you tin can!" Blue shouted, "Many of my friends died today because you guys sent a kid who can't look after himself over to help us instead of sending the REAL Star Fox team!"
"That is enough Gunstar Blue!" Tails shouted, "I lost my best friend today, and believe me, it wasn't their fault! We weren't prepared for this, so we got our butts handed to us!"
"To tell the truth, Gunstar," Fox replied, "I actually wanted to go there and help you out myself."
"Why didn't you then?" Blue sneered.
"Because the 'real Star Fox team' was on a more important mission than helping you guys out, just in case I needed to help either group, I needed to stay on the Great Fox just in case."
"So what the heck did you have them doing?"
"They were escorting the civilians to safety."
"And you trusted a kid to help us out?"
"He is more than just a kid." Fox grinned, "Have you heard of Helaman Squadron?"
"Wasn't that the secondary fighter group of Star Fox, led by Ricky 'Major Tom' Stryker? Yeah, I've heard of it."
"Did Hero tell you his full name?"
"He just introduced himself as Hero Stryker."  Red cut in, a little confused.
"Hero, tell them your full name."
"Gladly." Richard replied, "Hero is just my nickname.  My real name is Richard B. Stryker Jr."
Blue was stunned. "No way!" He said, "This kid is the son of Ricky Stryker?  I thought it was just a coincidence!"
"Ricky and I were good friends." Fox said, "I've known Junior for a long time."  He looked at Richard. "In fact, I have something to give you, Richard." Fox pulled out a little box and handed it to Richard.  Richard opened it and inside was a pair of blue pilot goggles.  He tried them on, and they fit perfectly.  Lights came on in the goggles; it was basically a heads-up display
   "What is this?" Richard asked.
"These were your father's." Fox replied, "He wanted to give them to you when you joined the team, but unfortunately he couldn't.  Also, I have two other things to give you." He looked to the door exiting the bridge. "Okay, come on in."
A little gold-colored, dome shaped robot with hover jets underneath flew into the room.  It had a communicator attached to it and a single silver eye in the middle "Greetings young Stryker!" It said.  It talked in a robotic British accent.
"I know exactly who that is!" Richard shouted, "It's Dad's old helper robot, Moroni!"
Moroni looked around the room and noticed the Gunstars and the Lieutenant. "Oh, good heavens!" It said, "Some new faces! Who are you four?"
"I am Lieutenant Miles Prower." Tails replied, "These are the Gunstars, Red, Blue and Yellow"
"Well, I can presume which one's which." Moroni stated, "I also remember hearing about a young Miss Yellow Shadow Light.  I presume this is her."
"The one and only." Yellow smiled.
"Moroni has access to even the most highly secure information in the Nintendo Republic." Slippy explained.  "This was the main reason that we held onto Moroni when Ricky and the rest of Helaman Squadron disappeared."  He looked at Fox.  "If I am not mistaken, you gave Junior a couple of books when his dad disappeared.  What were they?"
"They were a couple of religious books." Fox replied, "If I am not mistaken, Ricky called them 'Scriptures.'  You and I both know that he was a very religious man."
"My question Miss Shadow Light," Moroni said, "Whatever happened to your brother, Mister Green Shadow Light?"
"He went missing about a month ago." Yellow sighed, "I presume he's dead, there's no other reason he would have been gone that long"
"Oh," Moroni replied, "I am sorry to hear that."  It then looked at Red and Blue.  "I have never read anything about you two though."  He did not take into account Blue's pale face at this time.
Tails smiled, "These two are buddies of mine." He snickered, "They do make a cute couple, don't you think?  I really-"
"Don't you dare say anything else if you know what's good for you!" Blue shouted, blushing.
"I think I am starting to like your attitude, Lieutenant" Richard laughed.
"On to business." Fox cut in, "I am reforming Helaman Squadron." He looked at Hero.  "I want you to lead, Richard."
"What?" Blue shouted, "He's just a rookie!  He can't already be commander of a squadron!  Tails should be the leader!"
"Let him lead." Tails replied, "He is Ricky Junior after all!"
"Hey, Fox, don't you think it is a little premature to give me the Squadron yet?" Richard replied, "I mean this was my first mission and I didn't do the best job-"
Suddenly the Great Fox shook. Alarms blared everywhere. "ROB! What's going on?" Fox asked.
"You won't believe this!" ROB replied, "Now we are getting attacked by Sony forces!"
"Well Rick, looks like your question is about to be answered." Fox said, looking at Richard, "All fighters, scramble!"

Why I'm thinking this is turning into a Star Wars fan fiction?
Though the story is EXTREMELY simillar to Star Wars, (Frankly, out of coincidence.) Luke Skywalker doesn't appear out of nowhere in his X-wing and blow up the Death Star.

Chapter 9: Old Friends

Richard's Squadron raced to their fighters.  "Moroni! What's the situation?" Richard asked, almost out of breath.  He was still a little tired from the battle earlier.
"It looks like about five Keyblade class ships in a harassment pattern." Moroni replied, "I recommend we use some caution.  No reason for us to go out and get ourselves killed don't you think?"
"Hey, kid!" Blue shouted, already in his fighter, "Are you just 'gonna get all your advice from a flying tin can or are we 'gonna get out there and fight?"
"Right with 'ya Blue!" Richard replied as he climbed up to his Arwing.  He sat down and buckled up.  "ROB! Release the lift locks!"
"Copy." ROB replied.
"Here we go!" Red shouted as they were shot out into space, "It looks like we are away!"
"Stryker, my fighter group will come out in a few minutes." Fox said, "Try your best to survive until then."
"Well Fox, I can't promise you anything, but I don't plan on dying soon." Richard replied, "Give me about another, oh, say, eighty or ninety years?"

Thirty minutes passed.  To Richard it seemed like three hundred.  "They just keep coming!" He shouted.  To him it seemed like every time he killed an enemy fighter, it just popped back out at him again.  He wasn't sure how much more he could last. He had to face the facts.  He wasn't his dad.  He couldn't stay out here forever.
"Shake your tail, Hero!" Tails shouted, "There's a bandit right behind you!"
"Shoot!  I've picked one up!" Richard shouted, "I'm heading to the Orbital Gate to try to lose him."

He raced for the orbital gate with the enemy fighter right behind him.  He jinxed left and right to try to keep the foe from getting a clear shot.  He knew it wouldn't shake his enemy.  Unlike Microsoft fighters, which are built for firepower, Sony fighters are built to be fast and maneuverable. These fighters are dart shaped with a razor-thin wing jetting off the back in the shape of a boomerang.
There are two weaknesses to this fighter, though.  The fighter itself had little armor.  A few well placed bullets would knock it out of commission.  The biggest weakness of the fighter is, in fact, the wing structure.  If it was hit just once, it would shatter, plus it was only held on by a couple of poles each placed about five feet from the center of the fuselage.  If those were hit, the entire wing structure could fall off, and if they were in a huge formation, (which they normally are) it could prove to be a disaster.
Richard dipped into the tightest part of the Orbital Gate to try to lose his foe.  His Arwing could barely fit and his opponent was even wider.  The plan seemingly worked.  The enemy fighter was too large to fit into the tight space and did not follow him in.  Richard came out of the tight space in horror.  The enemy was above him waiting for him to come out.  This guy knew what he was doing.
The enemy fighter was starting to play with Richard.  The pilot rode in right behind him and did not come off.  He also fired some shots across Richard's wings to try to scare him.  This pilot was way out of Richard's league.  He knew there was no chance of getting this guy off his tail.  He had run out of tricks.
All of a sudden, the Sony fighter exploded. Richard looked back and saw the shattered remains of the fighter.  He then saw a fighter flying in formation with him.  He recognized the fighter immediately.  It was a Sky Claw, the same fighter type Falco flew.  This one was different, though.    It had a "sharkmouth" insignia on it.
"I see you're still as headstrong as ever, Rick."  The pilot said, "I'm not 'gonna save your tail on a regular basis."
"Jimmy!" Richard cheered, "Nice to see you again buddy!  What's up?"
   "Let's catch up later, Okay?"
   "Sure pal."
Suddenly, a distress call came over the radio.  "This is Private Marion!" The voice said, "I have a bogey on my six!  Need assistance!" The voice was female.
"This is Gunstar Red!" Red shouted, "I am on my way!"
"Negative Red." Richard replied, smiling. "I've got a visual."
Richard flew after the enemy fighter.  He could tell that the Private couldn't hold on much longer.  Quickly, he Yo-yoed behind the Sony fighter and opened fire on the target.  It was a direct hit on the wing structure.  The enemy fighter spun out of control into another unlucky Sony pilot.  Both planes exploded.
"Good job team!" Fox said, "We have fought off the enemy!  They are retreating!  Get back to base and get some rest."
"Thank you, sir." Private Marion said, "I owe you my life."
   "You're welcome, Katlyn." Richard replied.
   "No, it can't be..."
Richard flew inverted over the Private's fighter.  He looked down at the pilot and flashed an old "Peace out" sign (complete with a kiss on the side of the fist).  Private Marion looked up and screamed with joy.  "Richard!  I don't believe it!" She cheered, "It's been so long!  I've missed you!"
"How are you doing Katlyn?" Richard replied, "You okay?"
"Not too well." Katlyn said, "That guy hit my fuselage and I'm leaking fuel."  Her voice started to get desperate.  "Richard, get out of here!  Forget about me!"
"Hey Fox, do we have any more room in the hangar?"  Richard asked, "I got two more pilots for us."
"We have only one extra space."  Fox replied, "I'm sorry, Hero."
"Richard, I know you are trying to help, but I'm done for!" Katlyn cried, "Get out of here now!"
"Katlyn..." Richard smiled, "I want you to eject and deploy your solar sail."
   "But what good will that-"
"I am not 'gonna leave you behind!  Do it!"
"O-Okay, I'm ejecting!" Katlyn pulled a lever and the escape capsule came out.   "Deploying solar sail!"
Richard spun his Arwing around and caught Katlyn's escape capsule in between the main body of the Arwing and the left laser sled. "Now, shall we go home?"
   "Let's go!" Katlyn said.
"Alright!" Richard replied, "Jim, form up on my wing and land on the Great Fox.  The rest of my squadron, start heading home."

I won't be here from the 25th untill the 2nd, so I am gonna post two chapters this week.
Chapter 10: Preparations for a Counter Attack

Richard and Jim landed on the Great Fox and climbed out of their fighters.  Jim was about a year older then Richard and towered over him.  He was a little more scruffy-looking then the last time Richard saw him.  Jim's hair was a messy mop of blonde hair, just like he remembered, though.  He still had the same leather bomber jacket, and he still had the pilot shades.  Overall, Jim looked like a cross between a jet fighter jock and a cowboy.
Katlyn climbed out of her escape capsule.  This was tricky business since the capsule dangled off Richard's Arwing.  Richard had just come down when Katlyn ran up and gave him a hug.
"Richard, thank you so much!" Katlyn said, loud enough for everyone in the hangar to hear her.  Richard felt tears sliding down his combat suit, but all he could see of Katlyn right now was her brown hair, surprisingly long for someone in the military. "My whole flight group was wiped out, and if you hadn't shown up when you did, I'd be dead too."
Richard was at a loss for words, "Katlyn, I..."
"The man is speechless." Red smiled, "What do you think, Blue?"
"Yeah, I think so, too." Blue replied.  They snickered to their own enjoyment, but were quickly shushed by Jim's cocky tone.
"So, how are you, Gunstars?" Jim said, hands in his jacket pockets and looking out from above the sunglasses.
"Little Jimmy!" Red cheered, "It's been a while hasn't it?"
"Well, if it isn't Jimmy." Blue smirked, "You haven't changed much in two years."
"Wait a sec..." Richard said, "You guys know Jim?"
"He trained with us two years ago." Blue shrugged, "Actually, I consider him my rival, well, one of my rivals."  He looked at Richard for a second. "Come to think of it Jim, didn't you mention a kid as cocky and reckless as you?"
"Yes!" Jim replied, "And that's him!"
"Alright everyone," Fox said, "Let's get up to the bridge.  We have a couple of things we need to discuss."

Richard entered the Great Fox's bridge, suspecting an ordinary debriefing, but he got more then he bargained for.  As soon as everyone entered the room, Fox turned around and started to speak.
"Well, I guess everyone had a busy day today." Fox started, "First off I am glad you all made it through alive.  With everything that happened on Mobius, and now with the battle over here, it seems kind of like we just fought the whole stinking war."  He looked at Richard.  "I was surprised with you the most Richard, you were very brave at the conflict at Sega City, and now here you are in another struggle here.  Your parents would be very impressed."
"Richard, what's all this talk about Sega City?" Katlyn asked, looking at Richard.
"It's a long story." Richard replied, "Just put, it was a hard mission for a first timer like me."  This was an understatement.  He remembered nearly getting killed about four times.
"Anyway, we have just gotten word that Sony is going to establish a full frontal assault tomorrow morning." Fox said, "We are ready for them though."
"Now receiving a message from General Peppy Hare." ROB said in his usual monotone voice.
The figure of General Peppy was short, yet really demanding, something very imminent even in his hologram.  "Hello there, Fox." Peppy greeted, "It's so good to see you again"
   "Hello, General." Fox replied, saluting.
"You don't have to be formal, Fox." General Peppy replied.
Richard decided to cut in. "Hey there, Uncle Peppy!" He shouted.
Peppy turned to Richard and smiled.  "Ah, well, if it isn't Little Ricky!" He said, "I hear you are now leading Helaman Squadron."
"Yes sir, I am!" Richard replied.
"Well, good!" The General stated, "I'm glad it stayed in the Stryker family!"  He then looked at Katlyn, who was sitting next to Richard.  Richard knew what Peppy was about to say, and he didn't want him to say it.
The rabbit chuckled, "Ah, so you're leaving the Cornerian army to be with your boyfriend, is that it?" He said (ignoring all the signs from Richard that were telling him to be quiet) "Fine by me!"
"Uncle Peppy...uh...c-could you maybe get back to the mission?" Richard said, blushing.  He looked and saw Blue about to break out in laughter, almost being able to imagine his next sentence, something like: 'I thought you didn't like that mushy stuff, Stryker.'
"Oh, yes, I almost forgot!" Peppy replied, "I guess Fox has already told you the situation?"
   "Yes I have." Fox answered.
"Good," Peppy said with a grin on his face, "let us explain the strategy."
"The enemy forces are right in between Corneria and Sector Y." Fox explained, "They plan on attacking Corneria and don't have any plans on falling back."
"Unfortunately, they outnumber our forces greatly, and so when they attack, we will be decimated." Peppy frowned, "Our only hope is to attack them from behind while they are preparing to attack.  We are going to warp the Great Fox and a couple other ships over to Sector Y and start our attack.  Once they turn around to face you guys, we will attack from Corneria!"
"That's brilliant!" Slippy shouted, "They won't know what hit them!"
"Now you got your briefing for tomorrow." Fox said, "Now you guys are all dismissed.  Get some rest.  We have an early morning tomorrow.
Richard was walking to his bedroom when he heard Blue's voice coming from behind him.  "You know, you and Katlyn do make a cute couple"
   "Stop it, Blue." Richard replied.
"Why?" Blue smirked, "You two were made for each other!"
"Because I am your commanding officer and I said so."
Blue backed down, noticing Richard's point.

It's been a while, but it's finally up!

Chapter 11: Reminiscing

Richard laid in his bed, looking at a photo of Fox, his father and a man with a boy on his shoulder.  He sighed, wondering where that time went.  It seemed like a million years ago.  Everything was different now, for better or for worse, and he had to deal with it.
He heard a knock on the door.  He put the picture down on his nightstand and sat up.  "Who is it?" He asked.
   "It's Katlyn."
   "Come on in."
The lights were on in Richard's room.  His bed was on the left side of the room right alongside the wall, directly adjacent to a huge window which now had a beautiful view of Corneria.  His dresser was in the corner of the room farthest from the doorway and right beside his bed.  On top of it was a book on the technology behind the Arwing written by Slippy, a book on fighter techniques by Falco, a fantasy novel series written by Krystal, a Bible and a Book of Mormon (Both of which had belonged to his dad).  On his nightstand was the picture he had been looking at moments before and a model Arwing.  His walls were decorated with posters of famous F-Zero pilots like Captain Falcon and Dr. Stewart.
Katlyn walked into the room and took a seat next to Richard on his bed.  "I see you can't sleep either, huh?"
"No." Richard sighed, picking up the model Arwing off his nightstand and waving it around as if it was actually flying. "I don't think anyone can sleep after all that's happened today."  He looked at her and smiled.  "By the looks of things, it doesn't look like you've changed very much."
"I have changed more then you think."
"Not much." Richard replied, "You're still the girl I grew up with."
"You still haven't changed much." Katlyn replied, smiling, "I still remember the day I met you at Church."
"You mean when we were five?"
"Yeah, you kind of stood out in our Sunday school class." Katlyn smiled, "I was so shocked when you introduced yourself."
"I still don't see why everyone, even the teacher was so surprised when I told them I was from Corneria."
"That's because you were the first human that wasn't born on any of the Earths or an Earth colony!" Katlyn said, "It would surprise anyone!"
"The cool part was later when your dad told you that he had joined Helaman Squadron!"
"Yeah, My mother died shortly after I was born, and He wanted to make sure I was looked after if something happened to him.
Richard leaned back.  "And then...five years later...something...did..."
"I still don't believe it!" Katlyn sighed, "How can a whole flight just go missing?"
"Yep.  We were in school when it happened." Richard replied, "I still remember the Principal's face."
"That was when they made the decision to separate us."
"That was easier for you!  You hade your four sisters!" Richard said, "How are they anyway?"
   "They're dead..." Katlyn replied.
   "What happened?"
"An enemy ace came in and attacked.  My sisters were wiped out before a minute was up." She said. "I was completely alone, worrying about your safety."
"My...safety?" Richard asked, "I was with Fox, I couldn't be safer!"
"Still," Katlyn smiled, "You always manage to get yourself into trouble."
"Yeah," Richard smiled, "Remember the time I took an Arwing for a spin?"
"How could I forget?  You flew into the warp gate by accident, warped to Fortuna and ran into a battle between the Cornerian Army and The Venoman Rebellion Armada!" Katlyn laughed, "The Star Fox team and Helaman Squadron had to come bail you out! Fox was sooooooooo mad!"
"Yep!" Richard laughed "'What the HECK were you thinking Rick! You could have killed yourself!' 'Yeah, but I didn't!'" They both laughed.
"Well, Richard," Katlyn said.  Now she was standing up. "I came to thank you again for saving me."  She looked at him with big brown eyes that you would expect on a Labrador Retriever.
"It...uh...really was nothing." Richard replied, rubbing his head.
"Yeah, I understand." Katlyn said with a smile as she stood by the door, "Anyway, See you tomorrow, Richard!" She walked out and closed the door, turning off the lights as she exited.

Chapter 12: Jumped at the Gate

The next morning, Richard and his flight headed up to the bridge.  Knowing he wouldn't have time to eat breakfast, he made himself a quick PB&J half, slipped his dad's goggles over his forehead and ran to the bridge with it in his mouth.  Most of the time, people were given granola bars to hold them off during early morning missions, but he needed something more substantial.
The operation set up the day before was going along as planned.  There was no sign that the enemy was about to attack.  Everyone knew that it would happen soon, and that they had to hurry.  Warping was not a process to rush, however and it took some time to achieve.  Everything had to go right or the whole operation would never happen.
Fox sat down in the Commander's chair with his arms folded.  It had been a long road yesterday, and he knew that he and his crew were lucky to be alive.  No one was luckier then Richard.  This had been a tough mission for Fox and his flight group, who've had at least twelve years of experience.  The same mission was Richard's first.  The boy had spent hours in the simulators since he was seven, and at nine, had actually flown an Arwing (How he got himself into so much trouble that day Fox would never know.) but yesterday was his first time in an actual combat zone.  Fox smiled.  Ricky would have been proud.
Richard had just walked into the room, sandwich in mouth.  He was followed closely by Moroni.  Everyone else was there already; he had been the last person to arrive as usual.  Blue looked at him and grinned.  "What took you?" He said, "You spill jelly on your shirt?"
"Ha ha, you should become a comedian." Richard replied sarcastically, pulling off a bite of his sandwich and waving the rest at Blue.
"This isn't time to be fighting you two, so stop it!" Red shouted.  Immediately, Richard and Blue stopped arguing and remained quiet.
Richard took a seat next to Katlyn, despite the teasing he got from Blue afterwards.  He wanted to say something in return, but he reclined from commenting.  What Peppy said the day before caught him off guard, and Blue was not about to let him forget it.  True, he did have feelings for Katlyn, but he wasn't her boyfriend, at least not yet.  After all, his father would have been very upset if he asked her out on a date at this point.  Then Blue really went over the edge with a nasty comment.  That did it.  Richard couldn't hold it in anymore.
"Funny all this teasing me, and whenever you get flak, you get all red in the face." He said making sure to exaggerate the word 'red.'  The whole room went silent, and Blue stared at Richard with a look of disbelief.
After about ten long seconds, Slippy laughed, "He got you there, Blue!"
"Okay everyone, let's get this operation started." Fox interrupted, "Great Fox to Gate, how much time is left until we are ready?"
"T-minus five minutes." One of the Orbital Gate technicians replied.
Just then, a laser volley flew overhead across the deck of the Great Fox.  "ROB! What happened?" Fox shouted, "Give me a status report!"
"Sony Warships have opened fire on the fleet." ROB reported.  "No ship has been damaged, all batteries missed."
"They must have been firing off a warning shot." Moroni replied, "If they were aiming at us, we would have sustained casualties."
"We are receiving a message from the Sony Capital Ship." ROB said.
"Put it through." Fox ordered.
The bridge was lit up even more so by the hologram.  The hologram was of the commander of the Sony fleet.  Richard had seen pictures of the commander, and he had heard his name (He forgot it, though) and knew of his fury.
"Commander Fox McCloud, order your fleet to surrender to our forces." The commander said, "We have you outnumbered and outgunned.  Those laser blasts were warning shots.  If you continue, you will be destroyed"
Fox smiled, hand on his chin.  "Well, if it isn't Admiral Cloud Strife." He said, "If you are asking us to give up, you better forget it.  The Star Fox team doesn't surrender!"
"And neither does Helaman Flight!" Richard shouted.
Cloud smiled for a second, than laughed uncontrollably.  "Do you really think that you are Helaman Flight?" He chuckled, "Well, I can't blame you.  You seem just as stupid as Ricky Stryker!"
"Don't you dare say anything bad about him!"
"Then what do you want me to say, boy?" Cloud said, "Who are you anyway?"
"Allow me to introduce you to young Richard Stryker Jr." Fox smiled, "Named for his father."
Cloud nearly choked.  This was the son if Ricky Stryker?  It didn't matter, he would be dead within the hour.  His face went back to his normal, almost dead expression.  "All ships move to battle positions." He said, "You chose death, McCloud."

Miles away, a Microsoft base was listening in on the conversation between the two Commanders.  The intelligence officer played over the last thing Fox had said.  "Get Master Chief in here immediately."
Master Chief walked into the room as tall and looming as the officer had always known him.  "What is it, officer?"  Master Chief said.
"I thought you would like to listen to this, sir."
The officer played back the whole conversation for Master Chief.  He felt the smile underneath the helmet that hid Master Chief's face.  "Named for his father, eh?" Master Chief chuckled, "This war just got a lot more interesting."  He looked at the still picture of this boy and smiled. "Let's hope you survive to meet me, boy."

Don't expect me to be on too much these next couple weeks, I need to do stuff for school.
Chapter 13: Buying Time

Fox had to make a choice.  He could take the enemy head on, which would result in a high casualty rate, or he could wait for the gate to open up, which would put him at a strategic advantage if he moved through, that was if the Great Fox could hold up to the enemy assault.  He pondered, trembling at what the consequences of his actions might be.  Then he came to a hard decision, one that He regretted having to make, but knew it was necessary.
He chose to send out Helaman Flight.
"Hero, I want you and your group to try to draw away the enemy's fire while the gate loads up." He told Richard, "Then I will lead our attack group to Sector Y and start up a new front."
Richard was stunned.  "You actually expect us to fight off a group of that size alone?" He asked, "We will get annihilated!"
"Richard..." Fox said, putting his hand on the boy's shoulder, "You have your father's gift. You have a knack for flying an Arwing."
Katlyn walked over to Richard and looked at him right in the eye.  "Richard, there are many people who will trust you and listen to you." She said, "One thing's for sure, if all else goes wrong, I will stand by you."
"But you don't have a fighter..." Richard replied.
"That's okay," Krystal said, "Katlyn can use one of my spare Cloudrunners."
"You know something Little Ricky?" Jim started, "I have been all across the galaxy and I have flown with many people, but I came back because I heard my buddy was joining the ranks of Star Fox, and I knew I would enjoy flying with you."
"Thanks guys." Richard said, wiping a tear from his eyes.  "You are all really great, thank you."  He looked up.  He wasn't going to cry any more.  "Helaman Flight, Let's get out there!"

Helaman Flight shot out of the Great Fox only five minutes later.  "Moroni, What's the situation?"  Richard asked.
"It's not very good..." Moroni replied, "It appears that the seven of us are flying right into a large enemy strike force."
"Frankly, I have been in worse situations." Jim replied.
"Yes, but let's be safe, shall we?" Richard replied, "Stryker to Great Fox, I request some missile cover from you guys."
"Permission granted." Fox replied, "I will only be able to send one missile because I want to save the rest for a counterattack."
"Fine by me." Richard smiled, "You're the boss, I'll take whatever you can give me."
A missile came streaking by Helaman Squadron about a moment later and took out half of the enemy force.  By now, the defense fleet had launched their fighters, outnumbering the Sony force three to one.  The survivors of the missile attack started to fall back to defend their own warships.
The Cornerian warships and fighters gave chase with Helaman Squadron leading the charge.  Richard was able to get behind a Sony fighter and opened fire, taking out that fighter and the one in front of it.  Then, he looked to his starboard side and witnessed the destruction of a Cornerian warship.
They had fallen right into a trap
Four Keyblade-Class Warships, The Oathkeeper, The Oblivion, The Kingdom Key and the Fenrir, all appeared out of nowhere and started launching volley after volley at the Cornerian force.  One by one, the Cornerian ships were destroyed.  The intercom was filled with the terrified screams of the men and women whose fighters exploded.  Richard witnessed one fighter that dodged fire from the Kingdom Key, just to wind up as a hood ornament on the ship.  He knew that he had to do something.
Richard analyzed the enemy ships' position.  The Oathkeeper and Oblivion were side-by-side, with the Kingdom Key and Fenrir above and below them respectively, facing opposite each other and with their sides to the Cornerian Fleet.  Richard then got an idea.  "Jim, I'm putting you in charge until I get back."  He said as he pulled out of the squadron.
"Gotcha!" Jim replied, "Just try to not get yourself killed!"
   "I don't plan on it."

Commander Cloud, (who was on the Fenrir) watched as a single Arwing had buzzed the bridge of his ship.  He was terrified at the fact that a fighter had breached the blockade and the fact that it was an Arwing, one of the most well-designed fighters in the universe.  A group of four Arwings have been known to decimate entire fleets.  "All available fighters, attack that Arwing!"
A whole wing of Sony fighters maneuvered to intercept.  "This is Firaga Leader!"  A pilot said, "I have a lock on the enemy fighter and-AAAAAAAAAAHHHH!"
A bright sphere of white light filled the air and all the fighters had disappeared.  When the light died down, the Arwing was still intact.
"Sir," one of the bridge crew said, "Firaga Wing has been completely wiped out."
"I-Impossible!" Cloud stuttered, "Oathkeeper and Oblivion, open fire on the Arwing!"

Katlyn knew exactly where Richard was when the bomb went off.  She was terrified; Richard had charged the enemy warships, alone!  "Richard, please!" She shouted, "Don't do it! You'll get yourself killed!"
"Katlyn, I've already got this figured out."  Richard replied, "I'll come back."
"I-I'm coming in to cover you!"
"Negative." Jim replied, "There's one thing about Little Ricky that you should know about him after your years of knowing him."
   "What is that?"
"He can get out of any situation, no matter how crazy it is!"

Richard passed between the Oathkeeper and Oblivion at full throttle.  The two ships started by firing anti-air rounds at him.  When that didn't work, they fired missiles, and then volleys that could take down much larger ships.  Problem was that Richard's fighter was too small and to fast for a sufficient lock-on and the two ships were hitting each other!
Richard heard a small explosion coming from behind and realized that an unlucky Sony fighter had snuck in behind him and had been caught by one of the rounds from the Sony ships.  He looked up and saw the Kingdom Key disengage, for whatever reason.  Then he watched the Fenrir, realizing that it was alone, begin to retreat, and then get caught by a missile coming from the direction of Sector Y that almost took Richard out in the process.
   It was the Great Fox.
Richard was relieved.  He thought for a moment that he would not be coming back.  "Everyone return to base." He said, "I think that we deserve a good-"
Suddenly, a Sony fighter came whizzing by him. Richard watched it roll into a left bank as it came around for another pass.  This was not a regular Sony fighter, though.  It was more heavily armored, and included missile clusters.  "Arwing Pilot, Surrender now and your death will be quick." The pilot said, "You have caused me enough trouble as it is."
"Richard!" Katlyn radioed in, "Are you alright?"
"Yeah, I'm fine Katlyn." Richard replied, "I guess we haven't cleared out all the suckers, though." He looked at the enemy fighter.  "Just who are you anyway!?"
"I am Commander Strife." The pilot said, "Leader of the Fleet you just wiped out."
"Wait...I know you!" Richard replied, "You are the dude that called my dad an idiot!"  Richard was frustrated.  He had just destroyed this guy's fleet, and now this guy has the guts to tell him to surrender!  "I really don't think you are in the position to tell me to surrender now, are you?"
Cloud was furious, "Very well, prepare to suffer!" He shouted, maneuvering to get around Hero.  Hero turned into him in response, and the two went into a spiral.
Red's voice came over the radio.  "Hey, Hero!" She shouted, "If you are still alive, we are on our way right now!"
"Could you hurry?" Richard replied, "I can use all the help I can get!  I am engaged by the enemy Commander!"
"Hero, can you please repeat that?" Fox radioed in, "Did you just say that you are engaged to Commander Strife?"
"Yes!  More then that, I've ticked him off!"
"Stryker, I order you to disengage!"
   "I wish I could, Fox!"
Suddenly, someone had locked on to Cloud.  "That's quite enough, pal." A female voice said, "If you just disengage now, no-one will get hurt."
"Darn," Cloud growled, "I'll have to wait until later to kill this...boy."  He disengaged, feeling rotten on the inside.
Richard moved in for the kill, but was called off by the mysterious pilot.  "Just let him be." The pilot said, "There's no point in continuing this fight."
Just then, Katlyn pulled up alongside the two fighters.  "Oh, thank goodness you are all right Richard!" She exclaimed, "For a moment, I thought you were killed!"
"Nice to see you again, Kate." The mysterious pilot said, "You remember me, don't you?"
"Of course!" Katlyn replied, "How are you, Samantha?"

Chapter 14: Destination: Katina

On Richard's orders, Helaman Squadron landed on the Great Fox.  There were no more open docks in the main hangar for Samantha's Fighter, so she had to land in the secondary hanger where most of the Arwing armaments are.  Frankly, she wouldn't have it any other way.
Jim walked over to Richard's Arwing just as the canopy opened up.  "That was a pretty gutsy move you pulled out there, Rick!" He said, "Even I wouldn't pull off a stunt like that!"
"I kinda' find that hard to believe, Jim." Richard laughed as he climbed down the ladder onto the deck, "Trust me, I know you too well."
Jim's eyes were averted.  "Excuse me for a sec, will you Rick?" He said, heading past Richard and towards the secondary hangar.
Richard looked to see what Jim was looking at, and saw Samantha exiting the secondary hangar.  He put his hands behind his head and scoffed, "I should've known..."
Although Katlyn was a very modest lady, her friend wasn't.  She was an attractive blonde and she knew it.  Unlike Katlyn's slightly baggy uniform, Samantha's outfit was a little too tight.  She wore a white shirt with straps and a pair of short shorts (Hardly military issue, Richard thought) and to top it all off, she wore a red and white baseball cap similar to the one Slippy wore.
She was also human.
When Richard got a closer look at Samantha's fighter, he realized that it was a Cornerian Fighter with Bulldog insignias that had obviously been tinkered with.  It also had black and white stripes painted on the wings and a personal insignia, a picture depicting the silhouette of the late President Sonic that brought back memories for Tails.  Both of which had been throwbacks to aviation history similar to Jim's Sharkmouth nose decal.
Jim jogged over to Samantha, driving his hand through his hair one time.  "Hey there!" He shouted, trying to sound cool, "My name is Jim Fokker, ace pilot of Helaman Squadron, What's your name?" He gave Samantha a wink.
"Sorry Flyboy!" Samantha replied shrewdly, "pilots don't last too long around here, that's why I don't date."
Jim turned around in disgust only to find Richard standing right behind him.  Richard whistled, spinning his hand towards the ground with the index finger pointing down.  Then he opened his hand and raised it up quickly, making an explosion noise.  "Yeah, yeah, Ricky, give it a rest." Jim growled, "It's bad enough that I can't get a girl, but it irks me even more that you can."
"W-W-What do you mean?" Richard replied, sweating bullets.
That was when Katlyn came up behind him and tapped him on the shoulder.  He About-faced, screaming in the process.  "Uh...Hi Katlyn!" Richard said, blushing, "I didn't see you there, you scared me!"
"Sorry Richard..." Katlyn replied, "A-Are you okay?"
   "I'm fine!"
Then, Samantha came over to the group.  "So, You are Richard 'Hero' Stryker" She said, looking Richard over twice, "My, you picked a cute one Katie."
"What? W-We're not dating!  A-at least n-not yet!" Richard and Katlyn said simultaneously, both blushing.

Later, they were once again on the bridge. "You guys did a great job on your mission" Fox   said, "I couldn't be prouder You guys were-"
"Excuse me Commander McCloud.  Mind if I interrupt?" Samantha said.
"No. Go right ahead"
"Thank you." Samantha stood up and looked around.  "I came here on behalf of Commander Bill Grey, who is stationed on Katina.  As you may or may not know, Microsoft is attacking the planet."
"Why didn't you send us a message?"  Richard interrupted rather harshly, "We could have been there a lot sooner, and a lot more lives would've been saved!"
"They have cut off all long-range communications and radar; we had to send a lone fighter through the attack ourselves." Samantha replied, "Anyway, The enemy is utilizing BattleMechs, Mostly Light and Medium classes, but there are some Heavy ones too."  She put a large screen of Planet Katina up.  "This is what we are facing at the moment."
A picture of a large fighter group and pictures of various BattleMechs came up on the screen.
"So," Blue said, "Shouldn't a Cornerian base be able to take down a threat like this?"
"Not without Radar." She replied, "We are completely blind to the enemy's attacks."  She looked at the screen, "In fact, the Radar isn't the worst of our problems."
A picture of a Spaceship came up.  "What is that?" Richard asked.
"It's a prototype spaceship that Microsoft has developed.  It has increased firepower and even more Hangars then anything we have.  Needless to say, it is terror on a grand scale."
"So, let me guess." Blue sighed, "We need to go to Katina and blow the snot out of this ship."
"No, the number one priority is to force the enemy to retreat," Samantha replied, "If you can destroy the ship, you should.  Otherwise, just push them back." She looked around the room, and then to Fox.  She started crying.  "Will you please help us sir?"
"Once you said that Bill Grey needed my help, I decided to go there." Fox said, "We are already en-route."
"Thank you." Samantha said.
"Okay, team, I want you to get some R&R." Fox replied, "We will arrive tomorrow."

Chapter 15: The Golden Knight

Katlyn found herself tied up on the top of a castle.  She was wearing very fancy clothes, similar to those worn by princesses.  Standing to her right was a man in a dark cloak.  At this point it was obvious to her that
The man in the dark cloak spoke.  "Golden Knight, wherever you are, you had better come for a final showdown with me, the Wizard of Darkness, or else, you can say farewell to your dear princess."
Katlyn didn't understand any of this.  The Golden Knight?  The Wizard of Darkness?  What was this all about?  Many questions ran through her mind that she didn't bother asking.
Suddenly, she saw a shine in the distance.  It was a knight in golden armor riding on a powerful horse, sword and shield unsheathed.  The horse jumped to the top of the castle and the Golden Knight dismounted.
"Ah, the Legendary Golden Knight comes to save his maiden." The Wizard said, "But all for not.  Guards!  Kill him immediately!"
Two heavily armored guards came running in to slay the Golden Knight.  With two swings of his swords, the Golden Knight cut off the tips of their spears and fell the two soldiers.
"Bah, I will kill you myself if I have to!" The Wizard said.  He started levitating.  A huge fireball flew at the Golden Knight.  The Golden Knight brought up his shield to defend himself, but it disintegrated when the fireball hit it.  The Golden Knight then leaped up into the air, and came down with his fist onto the evil Wizard.  The Wizard created a fog of smoke when he hit the ground, and jumped at the Knight with a long sword.  With one fell swoop, the Golden Knight knocked the sword out of the Wizard's hands and then ran his own sword through the Wizard's chest.
"No!  How...can...you..." The Wizard never finished what he was going to say.  He died mid-sentence.
The Golden Knight ran over to Katlyn and spoke for the first time since he got here.  "Don't worry, Katlyn.  You're safe with me." He said.
"How do you..." Katlyn started.  Just then they both heard a loud roar coming from behind.  Katlyn screamed in terror as a gigantic dragon passed overhead and swooped up the Golden Knight.
"Hide!" The Golden Knight hollered.  Katlyn thought there was something familiar about the Golden Knight.  There was something underneath that helmet visor...
The Golden Knight struggled to get out of the Dragon's clutches.  Katlyn watched in horror as the Dragon flew straight up and dropped the Golden Knight from high up.  Then she saw the horse glow.  Suddenly, wings appeared on the horse's back and it flew away to save its master.  The horse caught the Knight in mid-air and the Golden Knight turned the horse around to face his foe.
But the Dragon was right in front of him.
The Dragon shot flame from its mouth to try to scorch the Golden Knight, but the Golden Knight had dodged it, flipped over onto the dragon and stabbed it with his sword.  He pulled his sword out of the beast and jumped back onto his winged horse moments before the Dragon went into its death dive.
He flew over to the castle once again, hopping off the horse.  "Everything is okay now, Katlyn." He said.
"How do you know my name?" Katlyn asked, finishing her sentence from before.
"Trust me." The Golden Knight said, raising his visor, "I've known you for a long time." Katlyn stared into the eyes of Richard...

Crud...I have to learn to proof read these!  I cut off at part of a sentence!  Also, this is a dream sequence, so I'm not changing subjects here.

I guess I can now say that this series is now in loving memory of Gordon B. Hinckley...

“Golden Knight, wherever you are, you had better come for a final showdown with me, the Wizard of Darkness, or else, you can say farewell to your dear princess.”
Katlyn didn’t understand any of this.  The Golden Knight?  The Wizard of Darkness?  What was this all about?  Many questions ran through her mind that she didn’t bother asking.
Suddenly, she saw a shine in the distance.  It was a knight in golden armor riding on a powerful horse, sword and shield unsheathed.  The horse jumped to the top of the castle and the Golden Knight dismounted.
“Ah, the Legendary Golden Knight comes to save his maiden.” The Wizard said, “But all for not.  Guards!  Kill him immediately!”
Two heavily armored guards came running in to slay the Golden Knight.  With two swings of his swords, the Golden Knight cut off the tips of their spears and fell the two soldiers.
“Bah, I will kill you myself if I have to!” The Wizard said. With one fell swoop, the Golden Knight knocked the sword out of the Wizard’s hands and then ran his own sword through the Wizard’s chest.
“No!  How…can…you…” The Wizard never finished what he was going to say.  He died mid-sentence.
The Golden Knight ran over to Katlyn and spoke for the first time since he got here.  “Don’t worry, Katlyn.  You’re safe with me.” He said.

That IS random.

You guys might get a kick out of the opening of this chapter
Chapter 16: Touchdown on Katina

Blue had walked into Richard's room. "Man," he said, "Why do I have to wake up the kid?"  He walked over to Richard's bed and started nudging him.
Richard was sleeping very lazily.  He was on his stomach, legs spread out.  His right arm was hanging off the side of the bed, and he was drooling.  His covers weren't even on correctly!
"Hey!  Kid!  Wake up!" Blue said, nudging Richard again.
Just then Slippy walked in with a bucket of water.  "This is how you do it, Blue." He said.  Blue backed up to give Slippy some room.  "Hey Junior! Wake up!"
"No Slippy..." Richard moaned, "Go away..."
"We are here!  It's time to head out!"
   "Just...let me sleep..."
   "Okay, you asked for it..."

Fox and the others were on the bridge.  Red was a little annoyed, "What's taking those two so long?" she yelled, "They should be back with Hero right now!"
"Just wait a second..." Falco said, "Three...two...one..."
Just then, they heard a voice coming from down the hall.  "JEEZ SLIPPY!!! DID YOU HAVE TO DO THAT!?!"
   "There's your answer, m'am."

A couple minutes later, Richard, Slippy and Blue walked onto the bridge.  Richard was dripping with water and shivering.  "H-h-hello e-e-everyone" He stuttered before sneezing.
"Man..." Blue said, "The last time I saw Richard stutter like this, he was talking to Katlyn."
   "SHUT IT BLUE!!!"
Jim laughed.  "Incredible!" He shouted, "Does Slippy still have to wake you up with that bucket?"
"Okay everyone, enough!" Fox shouted, "We are entering Katina Airspace, does everyone know what to do?"
"Yes we do!" Richard said, "All we have to do is go in, blow the snot out of some Microsoft goons and then we kick them off the planet!"
"It won't be that easy, Rick." Samantha replied, "Remember, The enemy ship is more powerful then anything the Cornerian Army can dish out."
"Yes, but we ain't the Cornerian Army!" Richard smiled.
"You are quite sure of yourself, you know that kid?" Samantha laughed, "I wonder how you survived this long."
"That's quite enough, you two!" Fox shouted, "I don't want to hear any more bickering until we touchdown!"

They set down on the planet's surface about an hour later.  They were a few miles from Samantha's airbase.  Fox was surprised that there had been no Microsoft fighters to greet them.  Something was wrong here, but he couldn't figure out what...
Then ROB looked at him. "Sir, long range scanners and communications are jammed.  I will try to re-establish."
"Thanks ROB," Fox said, "Everyone be prepared, Microsoft could strike at any-"
Suddenly, the ship shook violently.  Fox, Richard, Samantha and Jim were quick to grab hold of something.  Katlyn lost her balance, and started to fall over when Richard grabbed her wrist.  The bridge was in chaos.
   "ROB!  Status report!" Fox shouted.
"Enemy aircraft coming from the left." ROB replied.
"Get us closer to the base ROB!"

The Great Fox comes low over some mountains to get to the Cornerian base on Katina.  They all somewhat expected that there would be a large battle ensuing over the base.  No-one thought it would be as big as it was.  Microsoft forces were all over the place.  The Cornerian forces were definitely outnumbered.  Tails was the most horrified.  It was a lot like the battle of Mobius a couple of days back.
"Okay," Fox said, calmly, "This is worse than I thought." He looked at the monitor and pounded his fists on the controls.  Then, he turned around, "I want all of you to scramble.  I don't know what we're up against, but this base is going to need all the help it can get."

Chapter 17:  Preview of a Storm

Richard climbed into his Arwing.  By now, Fox and his group were already airborne, and now it was Helaman Squadron's turn.  Once the team formed up on deck, they were shot into battle.  Shortly after, they were engaged by a squadron of Microsoft fighters.  "Okay, boys and girls, let's get this show on the road!" Richard shouted as he maneuvered to attack an enemy fighter.  He got the enemy fighter in his sights and fired a laser burst.  No sooner did the fighter explode then he heard a cry for help from Red.
"This guy's got me dead to rights!  I can't shake him!" she screamed, "If someone can spare the time, help me!"
"Red!" Blue shouted, "I'm on my way!"  He turned away from the target he was about to nail to assist his friend.  He maneuvered around behind the foe and opened fire, shattering the fighter's left wing and sending it screaming down into the ground.  "He's off your tail now, are you okay?"
"Yes, I'm fine." Red said, calmly.  Her voice quickly shot back to a panic.  "Blue, look out!  You've picked one up!"
"Darn it!" Blue shouted, "That's the one I almost blasted!"
"Blue! Eject now!" Red shouted.  Then she heard an explosion from behind her.  She looked back, expecting to see Blue falling from the sky screaming.  She saw that Blue was alright, and it was the fighter behind him that was destroyed.  She then saw Hero pulled up next to Blue.
"Guys," Hero laughed, "You're too cute sometimes."
"I could say the same about you and Katlyn." Blue replied, "Thanks anyway, kid."

The team wrapped up the rest of the fighters without any more hassle.  "Helaman Squadron, this is Fox.  Form up with my group and head for the base ASAP." The Captain stated, "It looks like we may have our work cut out for us."
"Gotcha, Fox." Richard replied, "C'mon team!  Don't let them wait for us!"
"You've got to show more respect, Richard!  You're talking to your captain!" Samantha teased, "Loser!"
"Ma'am, I can almost call this man 'daddy'" Richard replied, "Besides, Star Fox is a mercenary team, we don't exactly need formality."

The two squadrons formed up and headed for the base.  A Cornerian Fighter formed up with the group.  "Hey there, Fox! What's up!"  The pilot said.
"How are you doing Bill?" Fox replied, grinning.
Richard cut into the conversation.  "Hey!  How are you doing Uncle Bill?"
Bill smiled. "Hey!" He shouted, "Rick!  How's it going, little man?"
"I'm fine!" Richard replied, "Frankly, I don't know if you guys are doing some event, but I will make sure that there will be fireworks and a light show!"
"That's the spirit!" Bill cheered, "You are a lot like your old man!"
"Aren't you being a little rude, Stryker?"  Samantha said, "Let the commanders talk, moron."
"Naw, it's alright, Sammie." Bill replied, "There was nothing to brief you guys on that you don't already know." The captain smiled, "Besides, Ricky here is my bud!"
"Apologies, sir." Samantha said, "By the way, is my flight in the air?"
"Sorry, Lieutenant, your flight never got off the runway."
   "That's impossible!"
Bill sighed, "That's the way of it." He said, "For now, you will be on Richard's wing."
"Yes sir..." Samantha replied. She looked at Richard. "Okay, loser.  You may be my Commanding Officer, but I'm not going to enjoy it!"
"Just grow up Sammie!" Katlyn sighed, "You always act this way..."
Just then, the team got a transmission from one of the pilots under Bill's command.  "Commander Gray! I have visual conformation of the enemy ship!" The pilot said, "Do I have permission to engage?"
"Green light!" Bill replied, "I want all aircraft attacking that thing!  Move it, people!"
"You heard him, team!" Fox shouted, "Everyone break off and engage that ship!"
"Gotcha Fox!" Richard shouted, "Okay, Helaman Squadron, let's get this thing!"

Chapter 18: Into the Beast

Helaman Squadron flew off towards the enemy ship.  The ship was the biggest war machine Richard had ever seen.  It had three main hangars.  Two of them arched off of the sides and came up front.  The other one was right in the center and was accessible by one big door in the front.  The Bridge was at the back, suspended by a large pillar of guns and armor.  The whole thing was covered with AA.  There was very little chance any of the fighters would come out of this in one piece.
â€œOk, guys,” Richard said, firing up the afterburner “Let’s blow this thing to pieces!”
â€œDon’t just rush in there and just attack that thing, idiot!” Samantha replied, “That thing is brimming with Flak!  There is no way we can penetrate the defenses with a frontal attack!”
â€œShe’s right, Richard…” Katlyn stated, “We have to take out some of the fighter cover first.”
â€œYou two have a very valid point…” Richard said, kind of ticked, “Okay, then…Let’s attack those fighters!”
They flew towards a dogfight in progress.  The whole group was horrified at the number of casualties.  Samantha was shocked as she watched a childhood friend get blasted to bits.  For payback, she blew the wing off the plane that killed the person.  Afterwards, she dove after it and showed no mercy.
Richard was fairing very well.  He was flying circles around the sluggish Microsoft fighters.  One time, he flew so close to an enemy fighter that he just missed scraping his right wing on the canopy of his opponent.
Jim was very surprised at his skill.  He would later write: “Ricky was on a roll!  At one point, he opened fire on one enemy fighter, destroyed it and then knocked the one in front of it into a downward spiral.  I swear, if every pilot in the Nintendo Air Force were that good, no, HALF as good, we would have won the war in a week!”
Then Richard heard Katlyn panicking.  “Richard!  Help me!  Please!” she screamed.  Richard pulled in behind the enemy fighter, then got waved off by Samantha.
â€œI think it’s cute how you want to protect little Kate, but why don’t you go and let me handle this.” Samantha said, “Don’t worry, she will be safe!”
â€œIt’s okay Richard, I flew with her in the academy!” Katlyn said, “I know I can trust her, after all, she has saved you before!”
â€œOkay, I’m off.” Richard replied, “See you later girls!”  He shot off past Katlyn.  Immediately, the Microsoft fighters peeled off and went for his Arwing.
â€œLooks like your boyfriend just pulled those guys off you Katlyn!” Samantha laughed, “Let me tell you, he’s funny!”
She didn’t notice that there was one fighter right behind her.
The fighter opened fire, shaking her up.  “Darn!  I’ve picked one up!” Samantha shouted, “Can you help me out Katlyn?”
â€œI am on it!”  Katlyn said, already looping in behind the enemy fighter.  She came in behind it and let off about ten laser blasts, blowing the enemy plane to pieces.  Then, she noticed something shocking
â€œThanks a lot Kate!” Samantha shouted, “I really owe you one!”
   There was no response.
   â€œKatlyn? You okay?”
â€œSamantha, I want you to eject.”
   â€œWhat?”
â€œYour engine’s on fire! Get out of there now!”
â€œDang!  I’ve been hit!” Samantha shouted, “I’m turning off the engine…No response!  I’m ejecting!”  She fired off the escape pod a few seconds before her plane exploded.  “Look what they did to my baby!”

Elsewhere, Fox was fairing even better then Richard had been a minute earlier.  One time, he even hit the wing of one of the enemy fighters just right so that it went into another enemy fighter.  Then he noticed Richard.  He was dodging lasers from the fighters behind him and missiles from ’Mechs below.  He seemed to be flying with a set target.  Then he realized what Richard was doing.
He was heading to the enemy ship.
â€œRichard, this is Fox!” Fox shouted, “Fall back!  You can’t take that thing on by yourself!”
â€œDon’t worry Fox!” Richard replied, in his usual confident voice, “When have I ever let you down?”
â€œIt’s not that I don’t trust you.” Fox stated, “Actually, I trust you fully.”  His voice got to that of a little grieving.  “It’s just…You’ve become a son to me, to the whole team!  We don’t want you to go throwing your life away!”
   â€œOkay, I’m pulling out…” Richard replied.
But it was too late to pull out.
A laser hit Richard’s fighter, sending it into a spin.  “Darn!  I’m hit!” Richard shouted, “This is bad!”
â€œLike we didn’t know that already!” Blue replied.
   â€œThis is no joke, Blue!”
â€œRichard, disengage!  That’s an order!  I Repeat!  Disengage!” Fox shouted.
â€œToo late for that, Fox!” Richard replied, “It looks like I’m going in!”
â€œHero’s in trouble Blue!” Red shouted, “We have to go help him!”
â€œNo, Red.” Blue sighed, “The kid’s on his own…”
Moments later, Richard made one last, desperate attempt to save himself.  He got control of the Arwing and flew directly towards an open hangar in the Microsoft ship.  He had barely made it in when he heard Katlyn’s worried voice.  He couldn’t quite make out what she was saying, but he lost radio communication shortly after.
He was all alone from here on in.
