she was in one of the Desmond flashbacks, telling him how he can't change the future (I believe).  It might have been in The Constant, but I think it was Flashes Before Your Eyes.

my theory:

they bury the H-Bomb, but in order to keep it in check, they have to enter an algorithm to keep it from overloading.  This is "the incident".  They convert The Swan into it, and have to enter the numbers into the algorithm, 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42, equalling 108, every 108 minutes in order to keep the bomb in check.  When they stop, the bomb goes off, destroying the hatch, turning the sky purple.

yes, and that was explained in the show.  but where does that electromagnetic energy come from?  The purpose of the original Swan station wasn't built around the release of the energy, they only had to push the button after "The Incident", which is unexplained as to what it is at this point in time.

It's pretty obvious what happened to him, or at least what the circumstances were (I'm fulfilling a promise made to an old friend).


In other words, Penny is dead.

There were no altercations with Desmond, and Desmond knows nothing of Ben's fight with Penny.
