Just built myself a brand new PC, think it can run most things I would throw at it:
Processor: Intel i7 2700k
Motherboard: Asus P8Z77-V LX
Graphics: Zotac GeForce GTX 560
RAM: 16 GB
Hard drive: 1 TB WD Caviar Green
Solid State Drive: 64 GB (boot drive)
DVD-ROM drive
4 front USB 2.0 ports, 4 back USB 2.0 ports, 2 back USB 3.0 ports
Connection speed:
Not the greatest, but I use Powerline networking, so meh.
Now to get games that can actually put this thing to the test.
The 2700k, IMO, is a waste of money. The specs are largely the same, you mostly just get a .1 GHz stock bump, which is easily obtained by bumping the multi in your bios with a 2600k
SPEAKING OF WHICH.
Power Supply: Corsair HX 750 (750 watt)
Processor: Intel i7 2600k, OC'ed to 4.7 GHz (heh, I'm insane)
Cooled by: Corsair H100 (water cooling, takes up 2x120mm fan ports, keeps my temps loooooowwww)
Motherboard: ASUS P8Z68 Deluxe Generation 3
Graphics: ASUS DirectCU TOP GTX 680 (yes, more overkill)
RAM: 16 GB (I found this is a bit overkill, but that's just me)
Solid State: 120 GB OCZ Vertex (boot only)
Hard Drive: 1 TB Seagate Barracuda
DVD-ROM, only one
I won't even bother with my internet speed test, as it'll look pathetic.
Uhhhh
Processor: Intel Core i7 2.2 GHz
Motherboard: Macintosh Pro Logic Board
OS: Mac OS X 10.6.8 / Windows 7 Home Premium SP1

Hard Drive: 500 GB 7200 RPM Seagate drive (boot only rly, it's old and runs like poop. I found it under the house because...)
3 TB 7200 RPM Seagate drive (...this one was too big for my motherboard to boot from, so I had tons of problems after my old drive failed. I'VE BEEN THROUGH SOME COMPUTER WARFARE SHIT FOR THE PAST MONTHS)

To be honest, I haven't played many graphics intensive games at all. Old PC games like Thief II, Age of Empires III, and Warcraft III mostly. WoW too. I have Sonic Generations and it runs well. 60fps at max settings without hiccups. I often wonder if I should use my PC more, lol.

Not that old. I've only had it for maybe 6 months. I probably just need to clean the fans. It's down to 61C now, which is pretty close to normal temps.

Not much, but considering it was a cheap desktop better than nothing. Although it had a bad installation of windows and certain programs are a bit troublesome at times. Eventually will get around building a computer.
Internet fluctuates from time to time, but ping usually sticks around 10-15, download around 25-30, and upload around 3-5.
I got myself a new CPU cooler because my old one broke. It's quite nice. Nothing fancy though.

I kind of like those coolers that go over the cpu. I don't know, just feels safer. I'm probably just too dumb to understand how the other ones are just as effective though. Like mine doesn't blow air directly on or away from the cpu, it just blows on the vent thing. I understand the coils have some kind of chemical compound or some poop that makes the metal cool down when exposed to airflow, I dunno. Just the direct thing always felt better due to me not knowing anything haha

like this
in neither case is the fan blowing air on the cpu
the point of the fan is to move air over the heat sink's fins, the orientation of those fins is irrelevant

Yeah, basically.
Well this is my Desktop before it was setup up correctly. Now everything is 7.9
Instead of making a new thread, I'm just gonna ask questions here. I'll start with the poop I use.
Basic Information:
Century Link 10Mbsp High Speed Internet
Netgear 2.4g Router/Modem
50ft Ethernet cable to PC
Microsoft Security Essentials
Wireless functionality for PS3/Wii U/360
Okay so Mona and I recently moved out into a front room of the house. It's larger, but also further away from the router/modem. In my old room, I'd get like 1.2MB/s on Utorrent and pages instantly loaded. But now that we're in this room, even on a wired connection poop is unstable and I'm lucky to get a 150kb/s. My PS3 fluctuates between 98% signal strength and 2% signal strength. My Wii U repeatedly tells me there is no access point in range only to still let me connect to miiverse after a couple tries.
This is alarming because for the first few days, poop was perfectly fine.
So is it time to get a new router/modem? It's the only thing I can think of that would be the problem.
I was looking up some of the newer Asus model modem/routers and they seem pretty legit. Like this one:
http://www.amazon.com/RT-AC66U-Dual-Band-Wireless-AC1750-Gigabit-Router/dp/B008ABOJKS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1364067270&sr=8-1&keywords=asus+router
The other possibility is that between my Utorrent downloading and my nephew/neice visiting(they just watch netflix for like 5 hours each day) its completely possible I've reached an invisible cap that Century Link set and neglected to inform me about.
Ideas?
so yea i'm only getting 2/10 the speed of what i'm supposedly paying for. Would calling my ISP actually solve this problem or would I be sitting on hold for two hours for nothing?

Ugh.
I hate calling my ISP. Switching to Comcast is usually an ordeal because of the phone lines and installing cables outside the house. The earth is soft and wet most of the time because Southwest Florida was formerly a swamp. This complicates installation.
BUT I guess I'll call them. If anyone else has any other tips let me know, because I've called them before and they swear up and down that "nothing is wrong on their end". I've had technicians come over and they can never figure out what the problem is.
My patience is wearing thin. #Firstworldproblems

Dunno, but cable connections always seem to have pretty poor upload speed in comparison to downstream. Upload should be much better once they start pushing DOCSIS 3.1 + gigabit, though.
Every fibre connection in New Zealand is also now capable of 1000/500 Mbps, as of the 1st of the month. I sure wish I could get fibre, since it'd be simultaneously cheaper, faster, and more reliable.

Correct. Symmetric down/upload speed is generally business or enterprise-class and much more expensive. My town is slowly rolling out gigabit, but they're doing it neighborhood by neighborhood, and mine is pretty much bottom of the barrel on their priority list.

Nope, just a small, rural telephone coop. (http://www.adams.net/history/) They're laying down all of their own fiber. Makes it even more ridiculous that most of the big telcos
already have fiber in the ground and refuse to do anything with it.

I don't find it surprising given your monitor resolution; you're more CPU-bound than GPU-bound around 720p.
QuoteThe CPU is an i5-3470, not sure why it doesn't say that.
Either the piece of hardware refers to itself using a family name rather than the exact model (AMD GPUs do this; they call themselves "7900 series" rather than 7950/7970/etc.) or it's a model that Piriform doesn't see often enough to add a specific identifier for; the 3570k was the popular one out of the Ivy chips.
I'll probably be putting together a Ryzen box at some point over the next year.
