Title: How to train.
Post by: darkmario on August 17, 2008, 08:26:54 PM
How would you train in brawl?
I'm realy good in brawl but theres always room for improvment.
So how would you train?

Step 1: Use snake or MK
Step 2: Keep using them

Congrats, you can now play brawl at a high level and succeed.

it doesn't matter how much you train if all you do is face computers. for me to train, i just face people that are at least as good as me as much as possible. so playing is pretty much training.

I just usually do a few 3 stock matches with a level 9 CPU each day so I don't end up sucking even more :P

Whenever I can I fight some friends too. Since the CPU's suck and use the same crap over and over D:

Vsing computers doesn't make you any better. Considering they don't play anything like the metagame is. I'd say to just have lagless matches with someone. A hard skill to pick up is reading habits. THats what Brawl is all about. You need to find out what your Opponent can and can't do well with his character and capitalize on it. The other thing I would suggest is perfecting your characters advanced techniques and frequently checking if there are any new ones.

also, try to discover new series and combinations of attacks. for instance with falco i found that grabbing and throwing the opponent foward and following it up with falco phantasm and a smash attack or two works very well. this  can obviously be done in training.

Why do either when you can just chaingrab? :P

I say you should watch videos of really good people on YouTube :D

...Don't listen to anyone except for maybe HTA and Timmy...

...The main thing you should do is play with some low levels to try to get all your attacks to hit rather than randomly smashing buttons...
...Also, keep your eyes on your opponent, you already know what your character is going to do, but you have to anticipate his/her moves...
...And rather than facing level 9s to pass the time, face level 8s, they're more humane...

Play against "That Guy"'s

You know, the people that play the game alone all day and all night and have no friends but when they go over to someone who they think is a friend's house they kick everyone's asses and it isn't fun.

Yeah, that's training.

CPU's suck. Play against better people and find out what your weaknesses are. Then go play with CPU's.

This is the farthest thing from a "hardcore tech move" ever. It's the simplest thing in Falco's gameplay. It's easier to do than Short hop double lasering. You shouldn't even be playing Falco if you don't know/don't want to use his CG. I don't even use Falco and I bet I have a better one if he doesn't know/use his  chaingrab.

Point taken.  But you can still win without the chain grab.  Guess you'll just have to wait to play him online.  I'm currently working on that at the moment.  Hopefully he and I can face you before September and without much lag by god.

Your brother said something about your router not working with the brawl online. Is it still being gay? I won't help you here, but either send me a pm or get me on aim/msn/yahoo and I can help you set up wifi and not be so laggy.

i know how to chain grab, i was very good at it in melee. i don't use it much at all in brawl, the other startegy i mentioned is much more efficient at dealing damage.

No, it isn't. It's way less effective. Not to mention Falco couldn't CG like he can in brawl. Hell, the only way he could in melee was upthrow on fox if I remember right.

I couldn't imagine how we can be noobs for sharing training tips.
He was calling your brother a noob for not knowing about Falco's chaingrab.

Which is sad, because the name itself is a self explanatory move.
He's not the type of player to use moves like that.  So I don't blame him.  I don't play like that either.
Well then A)He sucks with Falco, and B) he shouldn't be giving any tips if he doesn't want to play to win.
Actually he is good with Falco and he does want to win.  He's just not a hardcore expert on tech moves or whatever.
This is the farthest thing from a "hardcore tech move" ever. It's the simplest thing in Falco's gameplay. It's easier to do than Short hop double lasering. You shouldn't even be playing Falco if you don't know/don't want to use his CG. I don't even use Falco and I bet I have a better one if he doesn't know/use his  chaingrab.
i know how to chain grab, i was very good at it in melee. i don't use it much at all in brawl, the other startegy i mentioned is much more efficient at dealing damage.
No, it isn't. It's way less effective. Not to mention Falco couldn't CG like he can in brawl. Hell, the only way he could in melee was upthrow on fox if I remember right.
well i'll prove you wrong on the first thing you said when we do a falco ditto. i was good at chaingrabbing in melee. its harder for me in brawl because falco is a little slower now.
It's 1000x easier for Falco to CG in brawl than in melee. Man, this is gonna be fun. Can't wait until you get online.

Human opponents are always best even if they're worse than you are but you should definately have more opponents that are on your level/better than you than opponents who aren't. You should also have a least one person who can smash your face in because these are the people you usually learn the most from.

If you absolutely HAVE to train with CPUs, have them set at level 3 and use them to practice spacing, stringing different combinations of attacks together, techs, etc. Basically, you want to play against them as if it was just for practice instead of an actual match. If you treat fighting the CPU like a human, it will negatively affect you.

I like to face 3 different leveled computers with explosive items, and smash balls. It helps me dodge better I think.

Level 3's, work on getting your attacks to flow into combos, and how to space attacks so they connect.

Combos? In Brawl? Woah man, you must be thinking of another game.
