I don't know, but there's one thing for certian.

Genetically engineered living things.  They're already doing so with plants, are close to doing so to make a organism that can make ethanol in 1 stage instead of 2.

Now, imagine.  If they can do that, what could we benefit from said engineering?  For one, I can see cyanide resistant humans.  Same goes with many other toxins.  We could genetically engineer people to possibly never need to breathe, if we push it.

But, I also have many dreams to enhance the future myself.  Like finding ways to get around complicated home redecorating, the complications of wiring your house, and everything to weapons.  Oh, how would you like a back-up power source that was powered by something that destroys houses, and powers your basement?  I have an idea for that.  But, getting away from me.

I can see major upgrades to our power grid.  You know, solar energy and all that.  Oh, the possibilities...
im pretty sure people will always need to breathe
like i said genetic engineering for foods and humans will become quite popular
i also suspect that solar energy will double its use
What about organisms that ferment sugar to get energy, instead of respirate?

Get those genes in us, and who knows?  Maybe we won't.  Although I suspect if that ever happens, we'd need to go to the bathroom more often :-X
but those are extremely single organisms
the more complex organism, the more compex bodily functions
we have blood, veins, a heart
these are all oxygen dependant
which means thats a lot of wasted room to ferment sugar
Oh, I forgot about that part.  Good point.
Well, at least we could make ourselves resistant or immune to more toxins.
