I consulted the official website (of course--primary sources) but wrote it all myself. I never use any sources other than official dev sites or trailers.

We basically just tell people "This game exists" right at the beginning, because it's not always so simple to discover them. If it's any good, we'll cover it more extensively later. We have done that on some indie games in the past.
