I always choose the Water type for my main version, get one of the others for the second version, and the last one for the third version. However, I have no intention on getting Pearl this time around, so it won't work that way this gen.

The water types are cool, but I just can't fathom always picking by type.

Well, it started off with Squirtle in Blue Version, and then it just kind of became a tradition, I guess. :P

They're usually more useful than the other types, not to mention Charizard pwns all starters XD

Looks..Charmander, Totodile, Treecko, and well..the last 3 starters...sucked, but chimchar.

As far as early game, or in game at all, Fire are generally the most useless.

I usually get the fire type cuz its last form is pretty cool, but with Diamond I started with Piplup. I guess cuz he's the coolest.

The grass types never appeal to me; in Pearl, though, Turtwig started for me.

Whichever will be advantageous in the first few gyms.

In Sapphire and Diamond I picked whichever looked coolest:  Treeko and Piplup (penguins ftw!).  However, for some reason I decided to get Bulbasaur in Red, despite my loving Charizard.  It was a good idea, though; now I actually like the Venusaur family.

Ehh... i rarely use my starter since Gold Version.

Really, its whatever I feel like at the time...

Blue- Squirtle
Gold- Totodile
Ruby- Mudkip
Fire Red- Charmander
Diamond- Piplup
