The Forums is a web series about an ailing forum plagued with drama. The Trio (a threesome group of forum-goers) set out on a mission to save their beloved forum from demise. Meanwhile, a clan of gamers may be the forums best bet at survival - if only there was someone willing to convince the players to register an account. Created by KJ.
If you want to audition for a role, PM me or post in this thread for additional information.

I really want to do something for this, but I'm not sure what; do we have any idea whatsoever of what the plot will be, if there is one?

Actually, I wrote up a script in a few minutes. It's not necessarily the one we'll use for our pilot, but I figured it describes the sort of thing we will be doing for the show.
The pilot that I wrote will be approximately 5 minutes long. It features two characters, me and another actor, and we hear a third but don't see him. As for the plot, the pilot revolved around conversations between forum members, and hinted at the forums going downhill. There was an unseen flame war going on between one member and an admin, and the end hinted at one of the members potentially getting banned. Once again, a quick pilot I made in five minutes, not very good, but it's a start.
But from what I wrote, I thought of a few other roles I'll be needing, besides acting. If you don't want to act, you can create props. Like the pilot I wrote contains an angry post to an admin, so someone could do props (like writing the angry post that we will use. It's only seen for a few seconds, but it'd be cool if someone watching could pause and then actually read the response). Things like that would be greatly appreciated.
I wrote the pilot in script format, so I don't really want to copy and paste it since it'd get all screwed up. But if someone knows how to post a document, I can show you the roughly-done pilot.

I'll volunteer for Actor (preferably voice only) and screenwriter.
Did somebody say editor?

I know you are talented at writing scripts, I've seen you're work. So I'd be glad to see you as a screenwriter. As for voice-only actor, that can also be arranged. A few appearances would be nice, your face could be tastefully obscured through different plot devices (a Halloween episode or something), but overall voice-only can be done.

Figuratively speaking, yes, I did. And it'd be great if you could be editor. The job would involve you taking all of the recorded stuff and mashing it together so that it fits with the shooting script. Then putting it in the right file to be uploaded onto YouTube and handing the finished version to me so that I can make sure everything looks good before I upload it.
Also, if you want to be an actor that'd be great. Just because we're going to need those if we even want to start this.
Current information on things you can do to help, etc, will be edited onto the first post in bold at the top
I'd help in almost any way possible. (except actor, since I'm pretty bad at that)

No.
You can be an actor. Bad acting is often funny. Unless some of this is actually "serious," but if it has any comedy in it, the bad acting would be good there.
I will give being an actor a shot-I don't mind using a camera or just voice-whatever you need.
I will also create props if needed.
In essence, I'll help in any way possible-just add me to msn: red7js@yahoo.com
Also, you can send a text to
1-515-664-1072
just if you don't have me yet, SPECIFY WHO YOU ARE OR I WILL IGNORE THE TEXT.
No, I meant to say that I have literally no means to record video/audio at all.
I'll try my hand at being an actor, since I have a(n absymal) camera I can use for both voice and video.
My roughly done script will be on the bottom of this post. It's just something I wrote in five minutes while getting changed, so it's nothing special. With a writing staff we can really work on it from here.
NOTE: The names (besides KJ) are all generic like "admin" and "guy" for now. Once actors have been put into the roles, we can switch the names. You don't necessarily have to use your own name for your role, but you can.
CHARACTER SYNOPSIS (IN ORDER OF MOST SCREEN TIME)
Kid (needs name change) - A guy with anger management who constantly vies for the role of staff member, but is shut down by one of the admins who despises him. They often get into flame wars.
Guy (needs name change) - A voice-only character for the most part. He's the voice of reason. His voice always remains calm and he speaks without biases on what he thinks is right. Not much is known about his life, but he can always be found online and is the guy to go to for advice. He will probably get mod status in later episodes.
Miles: The Gamer is played by SkyMyl - The big gamer of the forums. He knows everything there is to know about games and is always playing them online. He always gets together gaming tournaments and the like on the forums. He's a hyper-active guy, always with a soft drink in his hand, and porn on his mind.
Person (needs name change) - A pompous guy who has a life outside of the forums. Admin likes him over Kid and often opts to give Person power when he doesn't even deserve it. But despite all his flaws, Person still helps when it is needed (he just is a dick about it, you know?).
Lurker (needs name change) - A mellow guy who doesn't post a lot, but is fun to talk to.
Admin (needs name change) - A corrupt admin who always gives Kid poop. As far as I know, his role will mostly be in chats (typing), but he may get a voice.
Silver - if Silver wants to join in, he gets a special position as himself, the lovable leader who watches as things fall apart, and tries the hardest to keep his second home, the forums, afloat.
The character synopsis above is a loose description of all the characters that will have a role in this ensemble cast show. I have a feeling I'm going to be the only girl character, but if there are any girls who want to join in then any of the roles can be easily switched from male to female.
If you want to act, PM me with the role from above you would most likely want to portray.
Below is the rough-draft of a pilot script. Not necessarily episode number 1. It could be one of those pilot scripts you make and get together to create to show to producers to see if your show gets picked up. You know, one of those types of scripts. THERE ARE TWO VERSIONS. THE ACTUAL SCRIPT VERSION AND A VERSION MADE IN A WORD DOCUMENT THAT IS AS CLOSE TO THE SCRIPT STYLE AS I COULD GET.
I'd like to be a part of this, but most likely not acting. I'll see what else I can do. What do you still need?

Check the top. Props, Special Mentions, and Extras take the least work and we need a lot of those.
I'll go for the role of guy...that voice.

Since you're willing to do camera, I'd prefer if you took a role that utilized that feature. That way we can get people who physically can't use a camera into the voice-only roles.

Ha, I was thinking about having one of those. But seeing as we've only got a few people on these forums even willing to act... Can't be picky.
I meant like finding which role people would be best for.

Casting directors are usually only needed if the script is already made or if roles have already been created, and we're having actual auditions for these roles. Since this is currently first come, first served, I don't really think we need one. But, of course, it's up to KJ.
I can write scripts in proper format. Also, I'm a writer. As for acting . . . I dunno, I'd need to check to see if I've got the proper equipment to do so.

If it's not too demanding, I could act. Also, if you need music, I might be able to be of service...after I finish the CD-R solo album I'm working on, since that takes priority right now...

Yes music would be awesome! And I'll find a small, less demanding role you could play.
OKAY THEN. I'm working on ideas at the moment. But now that I've got a lot of people willing to work on this project, except PM's regarding your roles, etc, soon. I just need to create a spec script and then we can really begin this project.
I believe everyone and anyone that has played with me on Live knows that I can be 'Kid' with ease. I will audition for that role and any others you want me to. My voice range is almost limitless, so I could fill out the cast with myself if needed be (which it isn't)

Sweet. I may actually have "auditions" or at least have all the actors give me a small performance to see which role would fit them best.
I've fleshed out the roles a bit more, too. They all have names, ages, character traits, etc. Potential actors can look into the character bios and decide which role you want to pursue.
The TrioKJ
Andrew WilbyAKA: Andy
He's a nineteen year old freshman at college, living in a messy dorm with an unseen roommate. Very temperamental, and very ambitious. He's a nice guy, though. He doesn't tread over his friends to reach his goals, but he is competitive and he does want a staff position. He has is friends, KJ and David, and then he has his enemies... like Reaper (vying for staff) and Kane (Head Admin).
DavidAKA: David
Everything else seems to be unknown about David. All that we really know is that he is the voice of reason in our trio. A level-headed and calm guy who never shows too much of any emotion. A taciturn. He secretly wants to be a moderator on the forums, but his unbiased judgement and keen intellect seem to go unnoticed by his superiors. It's probably his unwillingness to play the politics of the game and really get in there and be ambitious that stop him from being recognized by the staff as anything more than a helpful member.
The GamersMiles KeysAKA: Miles
A sixteen year old (junior in high school), hyperactive gamer. Possibly has ADHD. Or maybe just hyped up on sugar? He constantly has a Coke in his hand, his choice drink, and a controller in the other. He has a group he regularly joins up with for ass-kicking in various games (Reaper and Suber). He's kind of poor, which can be subtly noticed by the quality of his things. Miles is not part of the forums.
Tom McHueAKA: 6Rea6per6, Reaper
A seventeen year old (junior in high school) skater punk with a pompous attitude and lots of money. He's rich and he acts rich. But is there bitterness deep down? He makes fun of Miles for being poor, but at least Miles has loving parents. Reaper's parents completely ignore his existence. Reaper hides this fact, but it comes out in its subtle ways. Reaper vies for staff on the forums, against Andy. Kane likes Reaper better, and sides with him when Reaper and Andy get into flame wars. But despite being kind of an poop hole prick, Reaper always comes through in the end. Like all bullies, he has that hidden soft side.
Corey WangAKA: SuberAsian, Suber
A seventeen year old (senior in high school) Asian. Suber is cool, funny, and slightly flamboyant. Maybe he's not gay (because if he is, he's in the closet or in denial), but he's definitely comfortable with his sexuality. He's got the most social life out of any of them, girlfriends, sex, parties... He has fun and he maintains good grades. Plus a humble amount of nerdiness. Like Miles, he isn't part of the forums.
Other Forum MembersGoldEagle80The Site Creator. Basically put in Silver's personality here, and you've got Gold. Even if he is never used, he will definitely be mentioned.
KaneCool, calculating and corrupt. But still a good Head Admin. He likes to exploit his members for his entertainment, but when something happens to the site, he is the first and last on the scene and always the one to fix the error (often caused by Gold). He may never be played or voiced, but he may be seen in chats and definitely will be mentioned (often by Andy in rage or Reaper in satisfaction).
A pilot script is in the works. After the script is done, it will be sent to the potential actors. Then we can do some testing and figure out the casting. Once casting is complete, we can get into the actual filming. Exciting, right?
Corey Wang sounds like a total Mary Sue; he gets the girls, he parties, he still somehow gets good grades, cool, funny, and... what's that? Did I see "humble" in that description, too? Characters need flaws, and unless everyone else in the show hates gays and he really is in the closet, there don't seem to be any there. Unless of course that's the whole point: he's that guy who's perfect and knows it, and you want to hate him because of it, but he's just too darn awesome and nice. That can lead to hilarity if done right.

His flaw would probably be that he parties and gets all the girls. No relationships that last more than a day and constant partying? Oh yes, that will lead to
something.
These character bios are short and are mainly just something for the writers to get a feel for the character. It's the writer's job to give them depth, layers, really explore them and draw them out. Plus, I don't want to give away possible plot points too early in.
I'm already working on the piece of the pilot you posted. I'll fold in these new details that you posted here. PM me the arc that you have in mind so I can better flesh out the introductions being made in the pilot.
I could do Miles, just change the drink from Coke. I despise Coke and it gives me a bad stomach ache every time I drink it. Do you have lines of dialogue or anything I need to give you for audition?

I've already got dibs on Gamer, bro. Hence why he's Miles.
...I'd rather drink Pepsi than Coke, though.
Now that there's a script to go with the names, you guys might change your minds about the role you want to play. Especially since those bios were put out as a rough draft and as I've fleshed the characters out more some things have changed.
And okay, you guys can change the drink of choice if you'd like. Just use whatever soda cans you have the most of lying around. I filled it in with Coke because we have a surplus of Diet Coke - my mom's personal favorite. But whatever suits you best can be arranged.
Also, I'm looking into potential names for the series. We can keep it as The Forums, but name suggestions are welcome.
I've got it.
FLAME WARS
Best I've got. And MYL, you'd be a better Reaper. Or maybe I would. I dunno, I'll just audition for both parts. But I still want Miles more, so KJ, I ask that you don't give me Reaper if I do a better Miles if I'm the only one who does him.

I sent out a PM. And you wouldn't be showing that much space. Mostly all that would be seen was your bed, maybe a little of the area around you. The dorm feeling could come from sound effects added in or other context clues from the dialog.

I don't know about the microphone issue, but I wouldn't worry about the second thing. A table read will make it clear whether you work well with others, and you could just read the other people's lines to show where in the scene you are. When we do the actual acting, there will be other people with you doing their parts. Besides, I'm not expecting mind-blowing auditions. This is just to see where you best fit character-wise.
