Wow. Too bad. Our neighbor's cat passed away a couple years ago.

But he was really friendly. I mean REALLY friendly.

And then one of our finches passed away earlier this year. It was sad.

Sorry to hear about this. I have a dog and I absolutely love him, he's only five years old, and I'd hate for him to die, because he's part of the family. Keep your hopes up. I have two old cats that both went through operations, one of them even had to have a tumor removed, and both of them survived, and are still alive, so there's definately hope for your dog.

If you can't seem to keep your hopes up, as other people have said, take pictures of the dog as often as you can so you can preserve the good memories.
