Name your top three favorite animation and why if you fell like it.
I mean you don't have to....... ya jerk.... just kidding? Or am I.
Kanon (2006)
Hanbun no Tsuki ga Noboru Sora
Gakuen Utopia Manabi Straight!
in order:
Amazing characters, amazing storylines, made me cry a million times and still makes me think about it. Definitely the most memorable anime experience I've ever had.
Beautiful 6-episode hospital drama/romance. This is what romance anime should be like. It was absolute perfection of its genre.
It doesn't look like much, but it really is. It gets incredibly deep for something drawn in a loli style, and it's the most inspirational stuff I've ever seen. GO STRAIGHT AHEAD!
Fullmetal Alchemist: Great story and characters. A unique idea. While grounded in some sense of reality it has a sense of mysticism about it.
Cowboy Bebop: Because it's freakin' Cowboy Bebop
FLCL: Best anime inspired anime ever.

FMA:B is part of FMA. Of course I've seen it X_X:;
Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
I'm going to stop the list there. Otherwise I'd be going back to my weeaboo days where I watch horrible anime such as Naruto. Ew.

Ha ha just kidding. I just wanted to see if you know that. ha Lol
Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann - So much fun in this anime. Galaxy Robots.
S-Cry-Ed - I love this show. It's great. One of the first anime's I watched that I knew was anime.
3. I don't know. Those are 2 that I just know are great.
I have one favorite for sure. Clannad and Clannad After Story (continuation of the story). I can't count how many times it made me cry. I got very attached with the characters.
Kanon also gets a spot somewhere on my list. I also cried during this series. Not nearly as much as Clannad. Clannad also takes a lot from this series.
Also I recently watched Code Geass season 1 & 2. Very good series. I really enjoyed it.
Fullmetal Alchemist
It is pretty nice for a serious series, while still having a few silly moments. It has a great and original plot in both the first and second anime. The story's pace feels just right, as well.
Haruhi Suzumiya
Not much more to say than that it's silly and funny, while still having some nice plot.
Death Note
While it may be extremely overrated, it's still a really good series in my opinion. A completely serious story with some good mystery elements.
A very close follow-up behind Death Note to me is .hack (or DotHack). Or at least, its first series, before the G.U./Conglomerate subseries of sorts.
DBZ
only anime I've ever liked.
DBZ is the only one I've ever watched to completion.
Others that I've seen... uh... one or two episodes of Naruto.
Anime sucks. :)

Of course you're gonna think it sucks if you've watched poop like DBZ and Naruto, dumbass. xD
My favorites, in no particular order...
Higurashi no Naku Koro ni (as you can tell by my current avi/sig)
FLCL
Cowboy Bebop
Fullmetal Alchemist (They're both good, but I like Brotherhood better)
Ghost in the Shell SAC/2nd Gig
Ouran High School Host Club
Samurai Champloo
Kuropoopsuji
Kara no Kyokai
Vampire Knight
I don't like picking favorites.
Most of the higher ratings on my list are my favorites~ http://myanimelist.net/animelist/Blaze-San
However, TTGL isn't exactly a favorite, I just really enjoyed it :x
DBZ
Naruto
Cowboy Bebop is a big maybe. I only watched one episode of it (Session 15 I think?) on adult swim and it looked really interesting.
This is my favorite anima

Zoids is the best anime ever, Fact.
Rurouni Kenshin (Absolutely love this anime as well as the Samurai X movies "Trust & Betrayal" and "Reflections")
Ouran High School Host Club
Fullmetal Alchemist (I haven't seen enough of Brotherhood yet though.)
Cowboy Bebop and the Tales of Symphonia OVA are close to those though.
I really enjoyed a few of theGundam series, mostly Gundam Wing and G-Gundam. Oh, and the original Gundam series of course. All three Dragonball series are great too (Dragonball, Dragonball Z, Dragonball GT). Naruto is okay at best, then it's bad, then okay, then bad, etc. The actual story-related parts are good, but the fillier episodes are just awful, they all "try too hard", and while I still strangely enjoy watching even them, they didn't create any positive emotional responses in me. I enjoyed One Piece's adventurous story, and admittedly, I have guilty pleasures in all series of Pok?mon, Yu-gi-oh!, Bakugan, and Digimon. I also like Sgt. Frog, which I've just started watching. Oh yeah, Ruroni Kenshin is good too. As is IGPX. Hope I'm not forgetting anything.
So, I'd have to say the best three are (in no particular order):
- the Gundam series
- thePok?mon series
- the Dragonball series

One anime episode is like 20 minutes. Not that hard to get an ep in, even with schoolwork. :P
Now to go watch some more anime and further procrastinate on that half-done AP English summer homework even though school starts Monday.

you don't just deal with it when you're talking to hardcore anime fans. The only acceptable corruption of the word "anime" is animu, courtesy of anon. Even the word "anime" itself is not really the best word, especially when you're talking to someone in Japan. Japanese animation is more specific, since "anime" just means "animation."
But now I'm getting technical D:

The only thing with 20 minute episodes is that I like to watch many at once, which of course takes up a lot of time. I usually just play video games too much to be able to do anything else. Can you recommend any good, short ones ????? You too, Zovistograt, as it looks like you're in the know about what's good :).
As for AP English summer work: lol, same predicament :). I'm going to AP English 3 (11
th grade). What books (I assume you're reading, correct?) are you reading? What other work do you have to do? I have to read
Black Boy by Richard Wright (it was okay, but the writing style was exhausting),
1984 by George Orwell (awesome), and
When Bad Things Happen to Good People by Harold S. Kushner (I chose that one myself, still must read). Then I have to choose a project to do for
When Bad Things Happen to Good People. Off topic, I know :-\, but just curious ????.
good, short series?
Well, Canaan and Bakemonogatari are still ongoing, although I hear they're only like 13 episodes for the run.
FLCL is only 6, and it's fantastic. Cowboy Bebop is 26, so is Trigun.
Ghost Hunt is only 25 (Think Japanese Scooby-Doo but not lame and no annoying dog)

Well, I just compare it to Scooby-Doo because it's the only American show that comes even remotely close in a sense. There are some pretty intense arcs (the main character almost get's her throat sliced in it).
FLCL (short for Fooly Cooly *no literal translation. It's a pun on the Japanese onomatopoeia "Furi Kuri" or "breast groping"*
It's basically a show that makes fun of other anime/manga tropes in it's own strangely epic story.

Both sound sweet. I think I've heard of
Fooly Cooly before... somewhere. If it's anywhere near as good as
Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo (not necessarily
like it) which I thoroughly enjoyed :), then I think I'll enjoy it. It's a good thing I'm used to Japanese pop culture jokes and puns from reading
Sgt. Frog. Are there (m)any of those? I think the puns are especially interesting to see, even how they're translated. I think it's usually better to watch pun-filled anim? in Japanese with subtitles. Could you also tell me what language (for dialogue) I should watch them in?

Cowboy Bebop - ENGLISH (even the creators say it sounds better in english, so you know it's DAMN GOOD)
Trigun - pick. Both are fine
FLCL - both. Actually the english version is surprisingly better. All the jokes are there (mostly), but are slightly altered. It's not Bo x 7. It's much better.
Ghost Hunt- Ah, haven't seen the entire English dub. Just a few eps. From what I can tell it's alright, except the Aussie character gets hit hard in the english dub. In the Japanese he's speaking in a kansai dialect where he learned it, however he speaks it formally (Kansai from what I've been told is very informal), so it comes across like a southern person speaking fancy. Nothing is inherently wrong it's just...odd. In the english dub, he's got "an OUTRAIIIGOUS AWWSTRAYYLEEAN AHCCENT MATE!"

I never said "busy", just "preoccupied". I'm about to start playing video games, seeing as I've seen the Scooby-Doo movie playing right now, so don't expect my reply to be as quick as these were. "Cya" for now.

those movies suck.
watch the original cartoon and the hilariously bad "celebrity" ones (my favorite are the Batman and Robin and 3 Stooges ones)
My recommendations for "short anime"
Shinigami no Ballad
6 episodes
A cute death god (shinigami) named Momo deals with various things. It's very touching.
Hanbun no Tsuki ga Noboru Sora
6 episodes
Made by the same people as SnB. A guy with hepatitis A is in a hospital and meets a terminally ill girl named Rika. It's really emotional. You'll cry.
Natsuiro no Sunadokei
2 episodes
Best 2 episode romance ever (although Hanbun's better imo). It's the kind of romance that makes you feel like you watched something substantial and heart-warming.
Voices of a Distant Star
1 episode
Cool 1-shot 35 minute OVA. It has mecha but is quite smart for one of those.
oh and one more.
Hetalia Axis Powers
24 episodes first season, second season ongoing
Each episode is 5 minutes. Great if you have a few minutes of downtime every so often. It's absolutely hilarious and based on Eurasian political comedy.

USA: I forbid anyone from disagreeing with me.
God that show is so quotable. XD
Higurashi.
And the one that's in my user title.
Anybody remember Yu Yu Hakasho? I remember it having an interesting premise when it was on Cartoon Network. I really need to check it out again.
Also the best anime shows ever are Bleach, Naruto, and DBZ. They are all fine examples of masterful storytelling and quality animation.
Yu Yu Hakusho was good until the end of the Dark Tournament arc (about halfway through) and then it went to utter poops.
Bleach is pretty good, but "I liked it better when it was called Yu Yu Hakusho, and I liked THAT better when it was called DRAGON BALL Z!" - Vegeta, Dragonball Z abridged.
Lol Naruto. Good lord I could dismantle and destroy that manga/anime for days.

How could I forget about
Yu Yu Hakusho (
Hakusho?dunno the spelling)? I bought a video game of that show and even got a VHS tape (you heard me) of it for Christmas. I watched that show nearly every night I could and was always impatient for the next episode. It was so suspenseful for me; I was like 10 years old. I like all of the series that I've seen, the manga too. It had such great action and everyone had such cool powers.
