Title: Zelda Manga on it's way to English
Post by: Silly_Penguin on April 11, 2008, 07:03:56 PM
I just found out after visiting thehylia, that Viz plans on releasing the Legend of Zelda manga into the US. For those who are currently unaware of this outstanding manga by Akira Himekawa, it is currently up on Zelda-Infinate (http://www.zelda-infinite.com/files/manga/) and Zelda Legends (http://www.zeldalegends.net/index.php?n=manga#292). I must say, this news has really made my day (and i was having a great day today from various school things ^_^) I absolutely can not wait until October 7th, so i am truly hoping that this news is true. ^^

Article Source (http://zentendo.com/news.php?newsId=1009)

Edit: According to Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legend_of_Zelda_manga) though, a publisher called Simon & Schuster will be releasing it.

Quote from: WikipediaPreviously, the manga was only available in English through certain unofficial websites devoted to the series that offer translated versions done by fans, called scanlations.[1] This may no longer be needed as Simon & Schuster revealed through their online store they will begin publishing the manga series in America in October 2008.[2]

I also found the manga's on their site here (http://www.simonsays.com/content/ene/search.cfm?N=0&Ntk=ALL&Nty=1&Ntx=mode%2Bmatchallpartial&Ns=P_FORMATSORTGROUP%7C0%7C%7CCP_PUBDATEGAP%7C0&Nr=AND%28Subsite%3ASimonSays%2CCP_IDENTIFIER%3ATITLES%29&D=legend+of+zelda&Ntt=legend+of+zelda&Dn=23424&x=0&y=0). This makes me wonder if they will be releasing this in book stores such as Barns & Nobles or Borders.

This is really interesting....

I certainly will buy it, as the fan-translated version is pretty good.

And there IS a fan-made Windwaker manga.

I thought there was an official one by a group called Oyster. I never had the chance to read it myself though. (unless this was the fan one and i was just mistaken, i never could find scans of it to read)

I'm hoping they will release the manga for Majora next, and then the Oracle ones, then Triforce of the Gods, Four Swords + ones, then the Minish Cap one. (maybe not in that order. i'm not sure what order they should be releasing it in XP) I think they should also release the manga's by Ataru Cagiva after they release the Akira Himekawa ones. Since i haven't read all of the Ataru ones, it would please the fans of them (plus i remember they where also interesting ^^)

to tell you the truth i was thinking of doing that sooner or later if they never would release them here :D. Well, those are defiantly collectors items though.

Hopefully that's next.  ;D ;D ;D

Sorry for the use of smileys, I just love Windwaker, it is my favorite Zelda game.

I have also read news that Akira Himekawa is making a manga for Phantom Hourglass, although i'm surprised that a Twilight Princess manga was never made. Well, i'm hoping when that's done they will release it here along with the other's.

Yep, along with the Windwaker manga, even though that was made by Oyster.

Right. Though i'm not sure if there are any manga adoptions on Link's Awakening, besides the one by Ataru Cagiva titled "Dreaming Island".

Ah, who cares.

The best Zelda games are getting translated mangas, that's all that matters.

I hope the Windwaker one is translated......

There's an A Link to the Past manga also.

I'm hoping that one gets translated. I've read the LTTP "Triforce of the Gods" one by Akira, but not the whole version by Atura. If they translate those, i'm hoping they will be translating the one by Akira first. Since personally i preferred the story and art of that one more (although from what i read of the other, it's not that bad)

New news as far as the Zelda manga goes!
Since i found the english volumes on amazon, i'm sure they will be released in a regular book store (vol.1 (http://www.amazon.com/Legend-Zelda-1-Akira-Himekawa/dp/1421523272/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1209425210&sr=8-3) & vol.2 (http://www.amazon.com/Legend-Zelda-2-Akira-Himekawa/dp/1421523280/ref=pd_bxgy_b_text_b)).  Now just to state this again, Volume 1 (which is suspected to be the 1st OOT volume) is to be released October 7, 2008. Then the 2nd volume shall be released on December 2, 2008. So if your like me, set aside the $20 for these to manga's *did this for TP and PH*. Anyway, mark your calenders to await the English release. ^_^

Now the other news i have for you all is that the Phantom Hourglass manga by Akira Himekawa looks like it will be released in Japan this June (according to Zelda Legends. link below). I can not wait until there are scanlations of that (since if they release that here as well, it will probably take a while). One thing that bugs me though, is that Akira Himekawa never made a manga for Twilight Princess. That one seems (to me) as if it would be absolutely perfect for one. Oh well, hopefully they will do one eventually.

The Hylia Article (http://thehylia.com/index.php?subaction=showfull&id=1209443128&archive=&start_from=&ucat=34&)
Akira Himekawa's site can be found here (http://www.himekawaakira.com/kids-room/works/zelda/zelda.htm) for the information on the Phantom Hourglass or any of the other Zelda manga titles that she worked on. If you wish to read that through google-translator or something along those lines.

Cool. I actually downloaded that so i could read it. It's ok in my opinion, a bit....random though. Meh, guess it's just not my type of manga. But cool find none the less since this will greatly help anyone else looking for that manga :).

For those who have yet to get the June issue of Nintendo Power, on p.18 is is stating the release of the OOT manga. Although it states that both volumes would be released in October, that is most likely an error on their part since from what i can get from Amazon.com, Simon & Schuster, and Zelda Legends; so vol.2 is most likely going to be released in December (...unfortunatly >_>)

Also, should i just edit the first page to make this an official Zelda Manga Discussion thread? Or should i just create a new thread for that and let this one slowly die. (At the moment i'm thinking of the first option)
