QuoteTalk about being user-friendly. Nintendo's Wii, already the most accessible system, confirmed an unannounced new feature will be built into future titles. Beginning with New Super Mario Bros. Wii this fall, players will be able to pause during a difficult level, let the game take over to complete the level, and press a button to resume playing.

Legendary game designer Shigeru Miyamoto says the feature is tentatively called "demo play."

"In New Super Mario Bros. Wii, if a player is experiencing an area of difficulty, this will allow them to clear troubled areas and take over when they're ready" Miyamoto says. "And yes, we're looking into this for future games."

This actually could benefit us. Nintendo could make harder games without having to worry about the "casual" gamers, as they can just pass right through any part that troubles them.

Plus, it shows how exactly to clear the level. If you can't figure out how to get passed a certain point, you could always watch the demo play, then try the level again.

That is most certainly interesting. God only knows how many times I have been stuck in a game, and didn't know how to pass it.

Many will say that this feature may be abused as to beat a game promptly without lifting a finger. But honestly, who is it hurting? You.

What's the sense of accomplishment? That's like beating a fairly easy game with the help of a strategy guide.

Oh well, at least the game doesn't actually beat the level for them.

Again, if you absolutely MUST use this, penalize the player. Take away lives, money, health, send them back a level/stage...seriously.

I completely disagree with Miyamoto's idea here. However, it CAN work if the following steps are taken:
1. MAKE THE GAMES HARDER!: Now Nintendo has ZERO excuse as to why they're making piss easy games. If the games aren't any harder, then the idea is inherently useless, and it would show Nintendo has officially stopped caring about anything considered "core"
2. No saving: This can only be a "show you HOW". It cannot beat the game for you. That means no saving, no literal progression through the game. It's simply should be a "gamefaqs within the game" sort of deal.
3. As SkyMyl said, penalize the player in some form. Without penalty, the casuals it's aimed it will never try to get any better at games, they'll simply rely on this new feature. They won't think about how to solve a dungeon in Zelda, they'll simply have demo play show them how and never actually try.

Kinda like the function in Tales Games where you can let the CPU take over during battles.
