Poll
Question:
Rap or Rock?
Option 1: Rap
votes: 15
Option 2: Rock
votes: 44
Option 3: Neither
votes: 6
One of the ultimate questions. Rap or Rock?
Fuck. I screwed up on the poll :-\
Thanks for moving it, JMV ;)
I vote both, cause they both have good and bad songs.
No problem. ;)
I voted both, because I love both.
I prefer rap though, just not the snap sub-genre which I find to be horrible.
I'm a rock guitarist for a reason. I love rock man. And I hate rap with a passion rivaled only by Country and Techno.
I prefer rock to rap by a wide margin. :P
But there's those few rap artists that made me like it enough to vote for both. <3
*ahem*Jurassic5*cough*
Rap and Banda Mexicana.
I like Rock. Not modern rock, either.
I hate all modern music equally, considering it's the same series of words said over and over again, yet is called catchy because a five year old could remember Party like a rock star, because a five year old probably wrote the lyrics.
I don't like old rap, either. Older Rock, such as Led Zepplin, black sabbath, Jimi Hendrix, etc Mainly because, while they had good vocals, they also had excellent instrumentals.
I voted Rock and Neither, because I like some Rock, but only some. And I don't like Rap much.
A few rap artists are cool in my book (John Reuben plz). But I'm pretty much a rocker. However, I do find a few cleverly placed lines of rap in rock songs to be really kickin' (a la Kutless).
"One of the ultimate questions"? Hardly. Rap vs Rock is one of the stupidest debates around. You're just as good asking, "Oh hey guys, do you liek Scandinavian folk or Happy Hardcore? :B"
Both genres have a lot of good stuff, both new and old, and they both have a lot of awful stuff, new and old. This applies for any genre, too, mind you -- the key part of this 'debate' is one's personal preference. There's no right answer and there never will be. Purists of each genre are also some of the most intolerant people I've met, so that just fuels my anti-rap vs. rock position.
Having generalised both parties, I'm not voting, because I love them both, and many other genres. ^_^
I picked neither, because im a metal head. Rock is too light and im not much on rap

Sorta but not really, the vocals and how many guitars in there changes the whole setup, so i dont cound metal as rock. Metal is its own machine
There's good and bad in the world of rock/rap. It's so diverse, it's pointless to dismiss it easily as simple genres. I vote both, since I'm a fan of good music in general.
Being a bit of a metal head rock and metal both have a good amount of their work taken from blues. And metal is somewhat a form of rock just usually in a different tuning.
Both, I really cant help it, both are great IMO.
Mainly rock, but I don't hate rap, and even like a few songs, so I put both. The main reason I dislike rap is because I feel like all the songs are the same thing "I had a hard life but I'm a gangsta and now I'm rich but I rap about ninnyes and how hard it is to be a gangsta." Yeah, I forgot how hard life is when you make millions of dollars. However, if you give me something different than the generic rap, I have no problem with it.
I like rock. Emo/Punk/Alternative rock.
And I HATE rap with a passion so much thats it's probably unhealthy for me.
I preffer to listen to rap, well only Southern Rap. Mainly Texas rap, I don't like all the other rap from the West and New York and stuff. But anyways yea, I like rap. But I like rock also.

I thought the same thing.
I voted for both snice I like them both.
Lately I have been listening to more rock though.
Still got a lot of rap on my i pod though.
:D
It's all about the funk. :0)
I like both rap and rock but I generally prefer more rap.
Neither.
Rap-ish stuff that encorporates techno can be good:
Stronger by Kanye West
The Way I Are by Timbaland
Rock-ish stuff that encorporates power metal can be good:
Anything by Dragonforce
As for "pure" rap and "pure" rock...
Rock wins. Those guys try to actually sing and put effort into the instrumentals.
;)
Rap. <33
Rock. Nothing beats it in its prime (70's-80's).
80's metal is pretty much the bestest thing evar.
Rock Rap does not have too much guitar
Rock, cause linkin park rocks. xP

Rap by a large margin.

Yeah, sorry. :P
I just had to be fair and block flaming on both sides.
Rock. Most of the songs on my iPod are some form of rock genre. Alternative rock, power metal, piano rock, you get the idea.

I definately prefer rock over rap. Rock obviously has the majority,
Yoshigal and Phayto, both consider this warning.

Read that thread before flaming music.
Rock,
Adding IMO doesn't get you around the rules.

It wasn't a flame. I was explaining why I don't like the music, not flaming it. But whatever, you're the admin, you decide.
I'm not a fan of rap, so I easily picked rock over it.
To me rap just sounds like fast talking with a beat. I'm also not a fan of the generally vulgar lyrics. >_<
Okay.
I strongly dislike rap because my ears cannot bear the horridness. I don't understand how people can listen to it. NO OFFENSE TO THOSE WHO *shudder* LIKE RAP, but my mind would implode before I began to appreciate rap. Here's a main reason: People who like it tend to blast it, and nobody cares what you're listening to, so keep it to yourselves.
In the rock area, I like rock sometimes, although metal is cooler. If you want a more detailed response from me, please feel free. I've had multiple rants about this and I'm not afraid to do it again.
um darkzero wtf
Did you not read the floated thread?
Adding "no offense" doesn't put you past the rules, nor does it override the "horridness" and "mind implode".
also i change my answer
To rap, followed closely by rock.
Gotta love Muse, Toad, and others. <333333333

You could use the same excuse for rock though. My neighbor comes home after midnight blasting heavy metal. The feeling of bass rushing through your body is an amazing feeling.

Yes, rap may seem like "talking to a beat" to those who may not listen to it, but when I listen to it I hear quality music. I find it to be as much as singing as is the vocals in rock music. I stay away from the stuff on the radio, which is generally about insignificant things. I also cannot stand the "Snap" subgenre (Dem Franchize Boyz, D4L, Soulja Boy). I listen to a lot of underground stuff, which you won't find on MTV or the radio. You need to seriously be interested to find the stuff. I find it to be some of the best stuff out there. Yes, the songs may contain profanity but it's not excessive. Profanity can be used to enhance the music, it can add a shock factor, it can be even frequently to set a different mood for a song. Some people may be offended, but you're going to find the swearing in any genre. I love both rap and rock, and both have plenty of profanity.
The stuff I listen to is generally concerning political issues (Immortal Technique tends to do a lot of his music on this. I find him to be a great rapper.), social issues, and personal issues. I'm not sure if you'll like the songs I mentioned, but I just did a quick search on YouTube and grabbed songs by a few artists.
When done correctly rap music can be a beautiful thing. Corporations tend to ruin good music though, the best you'll find in the mainstream is stuff like Eminem and Kanye. Underground is teaming with wonderful music. Try to listen to more music before turning away from rap.
I'm sure you rock fans don't listen to the stuff played on the radio such as Fall Out Boy(most of you), I'm sure you listen to stuff that most people who aren't really into rock might not know. Rap is the same way. You need to stray away from the stuff on radio and find the good stuff.

"Muscle Museum" is something I can listen to repeatedly.
I like both. ::) :-*

NP. I was also going to include "So Long" by Magnetic North but I could only find some poopty Naruto AMVs with the song and I wasn't going to defend rap while posting anything remotely related to Naruto.

I would say linkin park is like a combination of rock and rap. Very cool band though.
rap and rock is both good. But rock is better.
Why not combine the best of both of them, and listen to Rage Against The Machine? 8)
As a general genre though, Rock is far better. Rap has some good artists (Public Enemy, Cypress Hill...) but most are poor. Mainstream rap especially is dire. Taking averages, Rock music is far, far better.
hey rowstee 8)
Yes, RATM is the best of both worlds. ;D
