If you're from America, you're American. If you're from Africa, you're African. If you have ancestors from Africa but you were born in America, you're African American.

Nationalism promotes one country and culture over others. Racism promotes one race over others.

african americans are not always black, no? a white man born in africa who moves to america is an african american too

there is no "german race", the race of the german people is typically caucasian (although it wouldn't be wrong to say they could be anything else). the german have their nationality, german. chinese people are of the (i think its mongoloid?) race, black people of the negroid race.

so if youre gonna be all technical about it, nationalism isnt racism. two nationalist americans can be white and black. they both favor their country over others. the white man likes the black man because he is american. the white man may dislike an african because he is african, but it is because he is african, and not because he is black. all africans aren't black anyway.

Racism is zealous pride in your race and ancestry,  and that your race and ancestry is best.

The two are not mutually exclusive. Example:

You can be of Chinese ancestry and thing that the Chinese race is superior, but feel that as an American Citizen, the United States is the greatest country in the world.
