If you want to play something that was robbed of its music, gameplay, and mood, yet somehow is good (even though it's far away from the series) FFXIII.

WHOA WHOA WHOA, Final Fantasy XIII is a great game.  There is nothing wrong with it's music (it's actually really, really good imho), the gameplay may be linear but so was X.  The battle system is new, not bad, and I have no idea what you're talking about saying the mood was 'robbed'.

My experiences with Final Fantasy are the following:

FF3DS: Nice, but boring and lack of saving abilities isn't nice.
FF4DS: Better than three, but I ragequitted at the horrible story.
FF9: Nice, but boring. I dropped it.
FF10: Ew, blitzball. I hate Tidus.
FF12: Nice, but boring once again.
Dissidia: Epic epic epic.

I think the series are really good, but I just don't really like them. The characters are only sometimes good and most of the times just dull. I hate grinding with a burning passion. Luckily not all of them require this.
