:| Does ANYONE Believe in this bull? Why WOULD anyone?
Black holes are expected to possibly show up, but they will be around for a millionth of a second and will be ridiculously small.
Basically, we're going into unknown territory here. It's basically the same as smashing a clock against the wall to break it open and see what's inside. But...for some reason, I don't think anything generated in there could have that big of an effect. To grow like that...I don't know, I don't think that thing is even big enough.
Anyway, they're going to be doing it at increasing speeds, so if something screwy starts to happen they'll shut it down. It's not like they're going to be liek "WHOOOO CRANK DIS THING UP 2 ELEVEN AND LET'S GET IT ON!!11!1!!1!!!"
Wow, less than a week.
I don't believe it though. Same goes for the December 21st, 2012 prophecy.
But I want to see how people will react when it doesn't happen in both cases. :D
While I don't believe the world will end because of the LHC's activation, there is still a very minimal possibility.

The people at CERN aren't idiots. I think they'll take as many precautions as they possibly can. I kinda trust them after reading some books about them.

I know that.
That's why I don't believe the world will end.
but like you said, we're going into unknown territory here,
so the chance of it happening still exist.
Black holes are vegetarians. :P
Just kidding.
Anyway, I doubt we will get sucked up into a huge black hole.
I seriously doubt it's going to happen, but a little but of worry has been in the back of my mind ever since I heard about it. Like Zovi said, CERN scientists aren't morons. I trust them. I'd honestly rather it not happen, but it will be a huge leap for science and I know it's going to happen whether I want it to happen or not.
Mm... You know what... the kind of people that are going to be stupid and freak out about it won't be intelligent enough or informed enough to even know about it. On the other hand, I'm now tempted to start a rumor about it hahaha and get it in the hands of those stupid people to see what kind of chaos will go on.
HOWEVER, the year 2012 will be bigger than Y2K, easily. Y2K had some people freaking out, but for the majority, everyone was just like "that's retarded... we created something that becomes flawed at that time, but it's merely a clock, so who cares?"
The myth of the Mayan Calendar is very well-known. It seems rather interesting to me, I'm looking forward to seeing what happens. Do I believe the world will end? No. Do I believe that everyone will be like "It's no problem, it's just a rumor."? No, I believe there will be plenty of people freaking out. I'm going to make sure I have an assault rifle by then, haha. Right now, I do have a Marlin 1894c. It'll be quite nice to have in case of an emergency, hahaha, even if it is lever-action.
Remember 6/6/06? That was a fun day =D
Also, hard-on collider (http://boyah.net/forums/Smileys/default/emot-quagmire.gif)

The world gets to end on my birthday. :3
Well, isn't that interesting?
Well, this was going to happen eventually, might as well get it over with and see what happens.
I heard about this today... I really don't believe it. Then again, it would really suck if it did blow up the world...

It wouldn't suck, it wouldn't matter, we'd all be dead and have no opinion of it, hahaha
0_o yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah no. World wasn't created by Big Bang, so...
I'm just glad Mr. Capitalism and his lovely wife and business partner Mrs. Consumption haven't gotten their greasy hands smeared all over this. Can you imagine how many people would buy themselves into bankruptcy if Wal-Mart had an "End of the world" liquidation sale?
half life anyone

it ends a day before my Birthday....
darnit. >_>
I personally think something happening to the world that hasn't been recorded in history(but are people are sill alive) would make things interesting and exciting....not enough adventure in life.

Probably why I play RPG's and games for the storyline, my life is too boring and I almost wish I was part of the excitement in games.

If a black hole WERE possible with it, it would most likely Be a small one, that cannot be seen with the human eye.

aren't black holes unseeable to the naked eye anyway?

I hope something exciting happens as long it doesn't hurt anyone I care about.
I don't believe it, and even if it did happen, it doesn't mean the end of the world, no one knows what's on the other side of a black hole, people just assume it's bad because people are afraid of the unknown.

I thought that anything alive that entered a black hole pretty much died.
lol guys
a black hole is an extremely dense entity
that means you have to cram a lot of stuff into an itty bitty space
the hadron collider is basically a large machine used to smash particles against each other at high velocities, which scientists hope will allow two particles to connect and break into a billion little pieces, one of which they hope that they can see is the legendary gravitron, a theoretical particle that supposedly produces the effect we call gravity.
if they're just smashing several small particles together, how the hell does that make a black hole guys :\

Like to see someone prove what happens inside a black hole
So i just read up on this. Basically, black holes are not expected to occur, though they say that there is a small chance, and that they should decay. If they don't decay, then we're intercourse ed.
However, scientists at CERN say that cosmic rays bombarding Earth that are exactly like the LHC have existed as long as Earth has, and that it would take 100,000 LHC experiments to match the number of collisions that the Earth has already experienced.
So basically, unless CERN is filled with mad scientists trying to undo existence and are lying to us in order to make this happen, we'll all be fine. There's really no reason for concern. My problem is that I get scared really easily, by very irrational things, so September 10 is going to be the longest day ever for me. I really hope everything goes smoothly, because Rock Band 2 comes out on the 14th. >:(
I just wanna get it over with so 4chan will shut up.
LOL LARGE HARDON [sic] COLLIDER
I'm going to tell everyone that world is ending tomorrow so they freak out.

oh, there is still time left
Today, my AP Physics teacher got on a random tangent about the LHC. According to him, in order to create a stable black hole that would end the world, you would need 3.5x the mass of our Sun, or over a million Earth masses. So really, there isn't much to worry about at all. He went on to call anybody who is saying the world is going to end idiots, and he pointed as reference to the false claim that the Hydrogen Bomb could possibly set the atmosphere on fire.
