well i got tricky hammer ons down. but when it comes to fast strummig i phlat out phail.

do you think it would help if i played the entire game over again (starting in easy) and playing very song with back and forth strumms. and if it would make sense to start playing every note with a back and foth strum?

No. Just do that for the parts you have to do. just keep practicing fast parts and eventually you'll get good at it.
