For example, the Oklahoma Land Run of 1889.  The US Goverment basically told the public "We decided that 2 million acres of land in Oklahoma don't belong to the Native Americans anymore and they're up for grabs.  Everyone line up on the border, and at high noon, run like heck."

Any others that come to mind?

His election was a fluke. Gore technically won.

His re-election on the other hand...  ::)

Gore won the popular vote.

Bush won the most votes in the electoral college.

It was so close, but the Supreme Court ruled that Bush would be president after about a month of debate.

I don't know how your system works, so stick with me.

in Canada, our system works that political party members run for certain constituencies in the provinces.  in Manitoba, we have 15, because we have few people.  In Ontario & Quebec, they have all of the people, so the election is over by the time it gets here.

they have all of the constituencies in those two provinces.  whoever wins the most constituencies is the winning party.

However, we could have 30 million people in one constituency vote conservative (hypothetically speaking, of course.  that wouldn't happen, because such an amount of people would make more constituencies), and have the other 6 million spread around the rest of the country vote liberal, and the liberals would get in.

Is the US system similar?
