I grew up on classic Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, and Disney. I remember when WB was WB and it played Pokemon on Saturday mornings.
I also remember a time when Spongebob was actually funny.
So, what happened?
What's with all of today's cartoons? Kid stuff, adult stuff, it's all sheer poop.
Why is everything being dumbed down so much? Is the worlds cartoon watching population suddenly retarded?

AT and Chowder can be good, and I don't know what you're smoking if you're including PatF and Tangled on the Disney thing. But I do agree that most all cartoons nowadays are pretty bad. CN seems to be trying to make a recovery with AT, Regular Show, and Sym-Bionic Titan, though.

I'm talking about TV shows. Not movies.
AT is meh. It only gets points for being based on RPGs. Chowder is sheer poop. It's a Spongebob ripoff that gets off on fat jokes. It's not funny, and it's art is terribad.
The problem is that we've devolved back into the "cartoons are for kids! AND KIDS ARE DUMB AND DON'T UNDERSTAND ANYTHING!"
We got much better shows in the late 80's and early 90's. Both Disney and WB had blocks of time specifically for their older shorts, so we grew up with the classics. We also got much better writing in our shows. Animaniacs, Batman the Animated Series, and a lot of Nick and CN shows just had really good writing to go with their creative ideas. Rugrats, Dexter's Lab, and so forth had a much better quality of talent working on it. They took what was great about the older cartoons and updated them for then modern times.
I agree with Nayr; the reason most shows today suck is because people don't think kids have the same mental capacity as the kids from the 90s. However, I think that's exactly why Adventure Time and Chowder are/were so good; near-cursing and other adult humor, 4th wall breaking, parodies, and flat out nonsense are what DEFINED most good 90s cartoons.
Now, what I hate:
ALL OF CURRENT NICK except for Penguins of Madagascar, and even that's only sometimes
ALL OF DISNEY CHANNEL except for their one cartoon, Phineas & Ferb, which is ironically one of the best cartoons on TV
Cartoon Network is surprisingly decent right now if you don't count Johnny Test and those Canadian shows, but FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS ANIMATED, YOU CANNOT MAKE GOOD LIVE ACTION SHOWS OR MOVIES, CARTOON NETWORK!!!!!!!!!!!!
One of the big issues here is stricter enforcement of "educational programming." Word Girl is the epitome of poopty animation aimed at making kids smarter in a very pathetic way.
The thing is, they just didn't get that Pokemon could teach you life lessons. Or anything with any amount of comedy or violence. It's sad.
Not sure why you hate Flapjack. It's the closest thing CN has to its older shows, and it really does have its moments. I don't like Chowder but then again I've only watched one episode, if that.
I can tolerate Spongebob. Spongebob debuted in 99 and is the only "old" Nick show around anymore(Fairly Oddparents is around too I guess), on top of that, it has pretty good writing and can be legitimately funny, even though recently the episodes seem to be focused on Spongebob's flamboyant nature and the plots usually involve intercourse ing with Squidward.
I don't really watch any of these shows you guys are talking about(FB&CC, AT, etc) so I don't have any opinion on them. I don't watch TV much anyway, lol.
Though, I did buy the Johnny Bravo and Courage Season 1 box sets, like, day 1. I plan on buying the Dexter Box sets too. I honestly can't wait.
Adventure Time, I never gave much of a chance, but the small amount of episodes I saw weren't horrible compared to most. Chowder and Flapjack are basically the same dumb thing and I don't like them. I also agree that Penguins of Madagascar has its good moments.
But other than that, seriously, cartoons suck now days.
Flash is the worst thing to ever happen to TV cartoons. It just looks cheap.

wait whaaaaaaaaat
the art design alone is meticulously done, let alone the hand drawn animation and clever use of stop motion
Honestly, I don't like any cartoons except for the classics, and it's not because I won't give them a chance. I've had plenty of chances now that my niece is growing older. They just all suck.
I used to enjoy stuff like Family Guy (first few seasons were hilarious), but then Seth turned it into his own political soapbox, and it's lame now.

I personally find Flapjack to disturbed to laugh at most of the time, and not in a silly way like Adventure Time, I mean in a disgusting art style with disgusting characters and events way.
And Spongebob is NOT funny anymore; every episode since the creator left has been total garbage.

The creator, Stephen Hillenburg, left after the movie, which was supposed to be the end of the series. However, Nick wanted to continue the series and got someone else in charge. That's why the animation, humor, dialog, and over-all quality of episodes that were made after the movie are so clearly noticeably worse than the movie or previous episodes.
No wonder the animation seems different...

Johnny Test is the worst cartoon I've ever watched. Ever. And I'm Canadian so that's really saying a lot.

Anyway, as for Flapjack. I'm guilty of going through a phase where I would just watch several Flapjack episodes in a row each day. I loved it. I loved Flapjack's goober laugh, I loved how creepy Dr. Barber is, and I loved the overall silliness of the show.
I don't really watch much TV anymore so I haven't had a chance to see Adventure Time, but it actually looks pretty funny to me. I have a lot of friends that like it.
Really, what it all comes down to is that different people find different things funny. Perhaps my sense of humor is a little childish. I don't really care, though. I like being able to laugh at a lot of things. It makes life more fun.

Yeah, it's better. We got Thundercats now, and Young Justice finally returned after mysteriously vanishing back in May (they weren't even halfway through the season). I don't care if Flapjack's gone; it was always more creepy than funny, anyway.

The first two-three seasons of Spongebob were the best. I have no clue how it's gotten since because I seldom, if ever, watch any of the newer episodes.
It's still good. Though there is even more emphasis on Squidward's suffering. Which we already had enough of.
As far as Adventure Time goes, haven't ever watched it. It looks incredibly....weird.
adventure time is hit or miss
i like the music and some episodes
but a lot of the humor is obviously aimed at very young kids and I can't get into episodes centered around that stuff
the fart jokes and things of that nature really turn me away from the show, but there are some segments which i enjoy
it's not something i recommend watching, but something that's worth watching if you know what you're getting into
i only watch the episodes with marceline in them, lol

Word brother. I own the first five seasons. The first is my favorite but 2 and 3 are equally godly. There are some pretty good episodes in 4 like Krusty Towers and Krabs Vs. Plankton but most of it sucked. 5 was just poop.

This, specifically after the movie. The movie was supposed to be the end, and quality-wise it was; all the non-Hillenburg stuff has happened since, and it suuuuuucks.
Movie and pre-movie stuff, though, has the funniest, most memorable moments of any cartoon (and most live-action shows) I've ever seen.

It's annoying because she's apparently one of the most well known and "respected" writers in the industry because of her work on Spongebob. She's absolutely everywhere, and written episodes for a lot of recent cartoons.
All of the episodes she writes rely on one character acting like an poop hole and everyone else acting completely out of character, since she doesn't write for shows that require consistency.

It's kind of sad too because they actually could do a lot with the characters and setting they have. And then they just stay in one location for an entire episode and like you said, ruin moments that should be memorable with juvenile humor.

Also guys, are you REALLY complaining about juvenile humor in a kids show? I like you guys but come the intercourse on, how ignorant do you have to be to not realize that these shows aren't made for you? You are no where near their target demographic. No where even close. Neither am I.
Still, I find myself being able to lighten up enough to enjoy the humor because I don't fancy myself some sophisticated cartoon connoisseur. I also crack up at Regular Show, which has its fair share of juvenile humor(yes, it does. If you somehow think the humor is more sophisticated then you're delusional).
