Title: Animal Crossing: New Leaf
Post by: Mona on February 14, 2013, 02:39:59 PM
Official website: http://animal-crossing.com/newleaf/

I'm pretty excited for this game. Finally we get an Animal Crossing that's more than just paying off loans to Tom Nook.

Here's part of an interview between Iwata and the developers of Animal Crossing: New Leaf. I thought it was funny.
Iwata
So your initial concept was that the player could place a variety of objects in the town, and then that inspired the idea of the player being the mayor and making decisions about the way the town should look.

Moro
That's right. When we put it all together so that the player became the mayor and constructs the town by means of undertaking various public works projects, it really worked well.

Kyogoku
But the problem was that there was already a mayor...

Iwata
Ah, yes. Tortimer.

Kyogoku
We were asking ourselves: "What should we do about Tortimer?" (laughs)

All
(laughter)

Moro
And we decided to have him retire.

Iwata
So you forced him out of office! Mayor Tortimer retired! (laughs)

Moro
He accepted it gracefully. And fortunately, we found a place where he could live in his retirement.

Kyogoku
He's living there now, happily! (laughs)
You can read the full interview here (http://iwataasks.nintendo.com/interviews/#/3ds/animalcrossing-newleaf/0/0).

It's already incredibly popular in Japan. It comes out in America June 9th.

What are your thoughts?

I'm excited! It comes out right after my birthday
I'm trying to stay mostly spoiler free though, because I want to be surprised by the new content.

I've been watching Wiifolder Josh's playthrough journals and it's looking like a lot of fun. but I may cut back because having a surprise factor sounds appealing.

honestly, i've played every one of these games and i still don't see the lasting appeal

mona in particular nukes her town every so often to start over

what is the point to doing random tasks for animal people? To collect poop? Then why is there a cap on item storage that doesn't meet or exceed the amount of items that exist?

Real life sucks ass. In Animal Crossing, there is no need to worry about getting animals pregnant or anything (unless Nintendo decided to throw that feature in there).

I like how in New Leaf you become the mayor of the town. Gives a little more objective to the game other than "pay off your mortgage".

Whatever I'm okay with this. I hated it when I lost power or accidentally hit the off button and not only did I lose everything that I did that day but I also had to deal with the obnoxious Mr. Resetti the next time I played. I never did the I'm-gonna-reset-because-something-I-didn't-like-happened thing and I probably won't do it in AC:NL either.

You can say pretty much the same thing about Pokemon's character limit. "If I can't name my Pokemon whatever I want then the game just has to go downhill from there." Everything has a character limit because video games can't fit "Supercalafragilisticexpealadotious" as a town name.

Yeah I lot of people have named them after pokemon towns and I try to have somewhat original names or something but I might just go with an Earthbound name.

Wild World's was Teppelin, a place in Gurren Lagann. But I've also had nouns like Lilypad and river...something. I don't remember. I don't know what I'm gonna do town names are very important to me I can't just settle on something

I was in eighth grade when I left. What about you? Because you might have at least seen me. I used to wear really gothic clothes back then and I'd do weird things like dance in the rain while most everyone else was huddled underneath the thing.

I was in eighth grade too at that time. I used to know and hang out with a couple of goth kids, but in eighth grade I mostly hung out with a slightly different group by that giant brick wall where the band room was. I don't remember anyone dancing in the rain, but who knows man, maybe we did see each other/had classes together. @-@

We've completely derailed this thread, but who cares. New Leaf isn't even out yet.

What neighbors do people like?

I like the sheep and frogs the most
Title: Re: Animal Crossing: New Leaf
Post by: Mona on May 28, 2013, 09:38:17 AM
The frogs are really cute.

They added hamsters and deer to New Leaf and the hamsters are absolutely adorable. They're really short and just waddle around everywhere.

Are there any specific neighbors that are people's favorites?
Bob is mine. One time I had a town with my mother and Bob used to flirt with the both of us so we would fight over him and he ended up giving her a photo of himself before he gave one to me and I was so sad.

I really hope I get a deer in my town.

I like Puddles, that's the pink frog right? I also like Alice, Yuka, and Derwin. There are some new neighbors I've only seen pictures of but I like them a lot too, like a shaggy dog or a bunny that looks like Sailor V. As well as some penguins and ducks. There are very few neighbors I don't like. Mainly the eagles or gorillas.

Some of my favorite characters are Derwin and Bluebear. Mainly just cute characters in general.

I'm hoping there won't be enough of it for it to be a problem. I've seen screen shots of people's towns and it doesn't look like there are any bald patches like you'd see all over City Folk towns.

It sucks about City Folk though because before New Leaf City Folk was better than the previous games in all other respects. A lot of people would just build paths though.

Every time I've gotten a game that broke the street date, they rung up fine. Halo Reach was the most recent one. I also got Chrono Trigger(DS) early.

Unless there is some new publisher implemented software that prevents it or something, you should be just fine.

This one guy on some forum somewhere I read a long time ago named his towns after Earthbound names for each game. The first AC game's was Onett, Wild World's was Twoson, City Folk was Threed, and he said New Leaf would be Fourside. I thought that was pretty cool.

I don't know; I mean, yeah, it's basically more of the same, but at least now you're a mayor and can do more in the village and swim and wear skirts and all kinds of stuff.

I completely skipped City Folk because there was absolutely nothing interesting about it when I already had the last two Animal Crossings. I heard there was a city section where they shoved all the old stores, and that was it.

It saves right before you go to another town. That way if someone's internet goes down you only lose what happened while you were in the other person's town. Also Resetti doesn't jump all over your poop.

Yeah. You don't have to enter the hut to get things to respawn, though. When the trees aren't in view things will spawn on them. The only issue is there's a set amount of bugs that can be in an area at one time so I find myself chasing grasshoppers and stuff into the ocean so more beetles will spawn.

I've been more involved in this one than I've been in any other Animal Crossing so far. Not even the original one held my attention this much each day. It's really the best in the series and if you're an AC fan then it is a must play.

Get the Saw Stags for most bells. Dysnatid Stags fall in-between. The "stag fright" ones are the lowest among these brown ones.

I got the game! So many nostalgic feelings are rushing back from the first two games. I just got my house, and now I'm working on raising my approval ratings. Also, my friends have had the game for a while, so they took me to the island and I got to catch a ton of bugs and fish and stuff.

Anyways, I want to go to people's towns and vice versa sooner or later.

I have a fairly large beach area I cannot reach without a wetsuit and at first I was like wow that's so cool I can plant things there and it'll be like a private beach and stuff. But no.

It isn't cool.

That's the only spot Gulliver ever appears in my town and I don't check there daily and when I'm looking for sharks I don't check that section because it's a hassle to go to and if I put on the wetsuit while wearing socks or holding a tool the wetsuit glitches and takes those items away from me forever so no thank you I am cutting down those trees and never going to that piece of land ever again

youd think theyd have a way to punish you for changing the clock in the game and having it not match the 3ds clock

From IGN's Wiki:
- Villagers may move away faster if they are neglected for periods of time. They may even move out before you have a chance to talk them out of it!
- When Time traveling for long periods, villagers may even forget you! They may like you less as a result.
- Weeds will increase throughout the town at an alarming rate! Flowers may also die, and any planted trees will also disappear.
- Your mailbox may become stuffed, and any other mail will not be able to be received.
- Any turnips bought will immediately go bad, negating the benefits of the Stalk Market.
- The players house will become infested with cockroaches. And nobody likes cockroaches.
- Your character will emerge from his/her house with a serious bedhead - which may be a good thing if that's your style.

Nintendo is punishing you for it, albeit by subtly ruining the game instead of yelling at you for a couple minutes, which actually makes it worse than Resetti. The reason you can change the clock against the 3DS clock in the first place is so cheaters don't screw up the rest of their 3DS in the process.

Literally all of those are from long term time traveling, and it's not punishment, it's the normal flow of time. If you travel in time one month ahead, or leave the game alone for one money, when you hit play again you will have rotten turnips, lost villagers, infestations of cockroaches, bedhead, a full mailbox, tons of weeds, etc.

If you skip ahead one day at a time and maintain your town nothing bad happens.

All I find in QR codes are dresses. Tons of dresses, barely any men's clothes.

I've found some cosplay stuff that's for guys.

Ignore Goliath Beetles and move extra slowly for Golden Stags and Horned Hercules', don't leave until your box is full, and I've had my best results after 1AM.

Also, in case you haven't done it already, cut down every tree on your island save four, two on either side on the middle/bottom of the island. If you can see them from the bottom shore-line, you're doing it right. Then run back and forth, scare off any roaches/hermit crabs you might find.

Up until the duplication trick, there was an "economy" for that community - everyone bought and sold items for pretty much set prices (although to someone who is fresh it may seem expensive as intercourse ), they even pay for villagers who are moving, or when someone gets their hands on a japan exclusive item they put it up on auction millions of bells. Aside from selling stuff, they do straight up trades too.

Now that you can dupe that entire system is broken. It's kind of funny but now I won't use gamefaqs to trade, because I don't want duped items. I was fine with the system before but now it's just lame.

It's Animal Crossing for intercourse 's sake. Cheating in a game like Animal Crossing doesn't matter. There is no skill requirement. Discriminating against duplicated items is hysterical. How would you even be able to tell the difference?

Either way, you are "abusing" the game. Items you get from messing with time shouldn't be as valuable as items gotten naturally. The same logic applies, Riddler.

Time Travel was left in the game because of strange and mystical things called "Time Zones". Not so you could abuse it for items. The game even tells you not to do it.

You're so delusional, man. I abuse it too, but at least I'm honest with myself about it.

Where in the game does it tell you not to do it? It only punishes you in one way for doing it and that's with turnips, and if you don't use the turnip system like I don't then that's completely meaningless.

I see nothing wrong with using something left in the game *intentionally*. I don't see it as abuse.

If you abuse a glitch though for gain, that I don't agree with.

Why is this even a discussion, it's all a matter of opinion

It was left in the game with the realization that if you set your time in game and travel, you'll need to readjust it accordingly. NOT so you can get items faster.

You're taking advantage of it and you know it. You discern between the glitch and this when the end result is the same: you get items much faster than normal players.

I never saw a message about not doing it.

They could have had the game automatically tied to your 3DS clock and if you needed to adjust for travels/DLST/etc, you could do it through that. Instead they left you the option to play at whatever time/ on whatever date/ during whatever season you want to make the game more enjoyable for your play style.

Using something left in the game and using a glitch are two completely incomparable things. You may see it as abuse but even if you do (and I don't), you have to be able see that they're not the same thing.

I never saw a message about not doing it.

Perhaps a new pair of reading glasses are in order?

That's a decent idea but I'm sure you could still abuse it through there.

Whatever bro. You're altering in-game settings repeatedly to get items much faster than normal players. The two things are NOT "incomparable". The reason you don't see the parallel is WHY I'm even posting here to begin with. You're just so blind. I mean, sure, I can agree that "abuse" is a bit of an extreme word, however the fact remains that you really aren't "meant" to repeatedly alter those settings. AC is just so casual that there aren't any repercussions worth noting for doing something like that.

I can't quote you like that dude. Plz find proof of this message 'cause I definitely don't think I ever saw it.

"I'm sure you could abuse it there." Yeah, but if that was the only way to time travel I would disagree with it, because that wouldn't be within the game.

I feel certain that it was left in the game with the intention of it being used. It's a very slow paced game and, according to one friend who did the research, to collect every item legitimately by yourself would take about 15 years (one item/four items per seasonal event depending on how many characters you have each year) - they definitely don't expect anyone to be playing this game for that long and I'm sure that they understand people would like to play it at a faster pace, thus they leave it in the game with no significant penalties, the only penalty being left in so you cannot abuse the stalk market process.

In game content =/= Glitch abuse. Incomparable.

I highly doubt there would be screens or videos of a random tutorial when you start up the game. It would take me forever to find that poop. The fastest way would be to play the game over again or start a new villager. Fuck that.

wow. you really are trying to justify your cheating pretty hard there m8. you remind me of someone

Find the screenshot, 'cause I don't think it was a thing.

Neither of us developed the game so we can't say the intentions. You say it's abuse, I say it's not. If it were really not meant to be used, there would be consequences for doing it.

I just don't get how you can compare a glitch to an actual mechanic.

If I happen to stumble across it, sure, but I'm not going to invest a lot of time into this.

Riddler, its intercourse ing animal crossing. It is quite literally the ultimate CASUAL game where there are no bad consequences for anything you do. This series attracts people that get frustrated and quit the game if they die once in a game like Yoshi's Island. Consequences weren't even on the radar because that goes against how casual the games are.

Calling it a "game mechanic"? really? Come on man.
