Or not.

He's just retiring from his position, but he's going to look over smaller projects.

Just made a thread of this in Power On, but yeah.

While it's sad to see him go, I'm hoping this is a chance to really get a fresh air and try some new things with franchises that have gotten rather stale as of late or at least complacent in the gameplay department. I really love a lot of the game's he's made but at the same time I think the last five to eight years or so he's been holding the company back as much as he has been helping. So we'll see how this goes. Interested in seeing what he can make with a smaller group.

God no, change is bad to gaming. Sonic is still going through lots of horrible hoops.

Yes, because saving the same darn princess from the same darn turtle monster while getting the same darn starman while jumping on the same darn goombas is totally different in this case. <_<;;

And we got ourselves a winning formula!

Mario Galaxy was the last notable game he had a significant role in designing. before that pikmin.

two worthwhile games in a decade.

he already left.

on the other hand a smaller role might put him in a position to do what he did best 20 years ago

Basically
Less time spent babysitting and overseeing everything else and more time spent doing the types of things he wants to do

They usually change up the gameplay and the way the levels are designed, anyway. I don't really care if the plot is the same for a Mario game :U

Bad example. The Sonic series has always been terrible.

so yeah apparently the interview was misinterpreted.

he was basically saying that he won't be doing what he's doing forever, which is something we all knew anyway.

not supplying a source because its all over the net. Go to Kotaku or something you harpies.

well, that should be somewhat obvious considering he's human, but it's still surprising considering his impact on gaming.
