Title: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wand
Post by: Dog Food on July 26, 2009, 07:10:21 AM
The Lion, the Witch, and the Wand

It is the day you have finally been waiting for, ever since you got your acceptance letter. It is September 1st, and you are off to school. But, this is no regular school. You have been accepted into Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Your summer was spent in Diagon Alley, where you found your school list and bought all the required equipment. From then it was a nervous wait until now you were finally ushered to King's Cross, where you entered Platform Nine and Three-Quarters.

Now, it is your destiny to board the Hogwarts Express to take you to a mystical place of wonder and magic. For you are special, and now is the time to hone the power marked down for you since birth.

Important Things To Know [also remember to follow the general RP and Forum rules]

1. You may have up to five characters at one time.

2. I must accept your character before you may begin.

3. This takes place 20-30 years after Voldemort was vanquished (or a few years after the Deathly Hallows epilogue).

4. This RP is set very closely to the book format, so a previous knowledge of the series would be beneficial.

5. You can not join half-way through a year. I'll give some time for people to join and make their character(s), then I won't allow any more participants and begin the RP. After the year is over, I'll re-open the RP for new characters to join, and so forth.

6. There will be some new teachers, or I may get lazy and just use some of the teachers from the book (now probably decrepit and old, so don't complain). Also, if you read Deathly Hallows, you'll remember some new characters introduced towards the ending. You may hear from them once in a while, too.

7. Every new character starts at the age of 11.

8. Beware of book spoilers.

((Okay, you can start RPing now. We'll begin on the Hogwarts Express and let people socialize during the train trip. I'll still accept new characters until the arrival at Hogwarts.))

Jasmin looked up at the large, red train. She carried her luggage over, and with some effort, managed to pull it through the train doors along with her. She found an empty compartment in the middle of the train, stowed away her luggage, and sat down in one of the seats by the window. It took her a moment, but she finally began smiling and could barely contain her excitement. She was leaving her foster life behind for a degree in magic. Things couldn't possibly get better than this. As Jasmin sat there, she began daydreaming of the past few days since the letter came to her.

Her first day in Diagon Alley had been the strangest, and possibly best, experience in her life. There had been so many exciting things to see and learn. What fascinated her the most were the racing brooms. A few other kids had been standing in front of one store, noses pressed against the glass, and she had curiously followed their gazes.

"It's the Lightningbolt," one boy said in awe. "The new Firebolt model."

"Took them long enough," the boy next to him was saying. "I was beginning to wonder if they'd never find a flaw with their last broom..."

"So this one is better, is it?" a girl, standing there looking only half-interested, asked.

"Better? Why, it's the best racing broom in the country! Every Quidditch team is trading in their Firebolts for one!"

Jasmin, not understanding much of what the kids were saying, but getting the gist of it, looked up at the Lightningbolt now with keen interest. It seemed to have a yellow hue to it, and at the handle of the broom it went from straight into jagged edges, like a lightningbolt. Jasmin also noted how perfectly the fingers would be able to slip into the holes the zigzags made, which was bound to make the broom better in some way or another.

"Lightningbolt," she whispered, taking one more glance at it before walking away. It was then that she became extremely interested in brooms. After that she had went to Flourish & Blotts, the book shop, and read many different books on brooms. She learned all about Quidditch there too, and the sport become extremely enticing to her. Sports had always came naturally to her, and now she suspected it might have been because magic had unknowingly helped her when she most needed it. And now, this new magical opportunity seemed to reach her grasps, and she couldn't wait to try it.

Jasmin was startled out of her wishes and secret desires by the loud blast of the train. It seemed they would be moving in five minutes. They'd be going to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. She fidgeted nervously in her seat. What could possibly await for her there, she wondered, as she waited for the train to take her into the unknown.

Peeking around the corner, into Jasmin's compartment, Robert said, "Mind if I join you? Everywhere else is a bit too noisy..."

The trains whistle blew out a blast for a warning of the trains departure. Keegan had already said his told his parents his good-byes. He walked through the train with his bag on his back. It was a small backpack that he couldn't even put on fully. He had one strap on and the other hanging. He moved through the crowded train as people moved to the sides and gave him stares. Either from his height or from wonder of who he was. He kept his eyes down to make sure that he didn't step on anyone.
"Mind if I join you? Everywhere else is a bit too noisy..."
"My names Arnold. What's yours?"
"I got mine from the new shop. It has Pixie dust. Great for charms!"
Every one his age was talking to everyone, except him. He moved through the train and found an apartment with just a girl, and one his age from the look of it. He opened the door and took a breathe of air. "May I take a seat please?" Keegan asked her.
She picked up her stuff and hurried through the door, 'freak' lingering on her breathe. He slowly entered through the door and closed it behind him. He did look young for his size, and everyone was figuring out what he was.
He sat down and pulled out a small broomstick from his backpack. Reducio had been cast on it by his father, a broomstick enthusiast. On it's side read Firebolt. He looked at it through parted hair and missed his father.

Jasmin nodded, moving her things to allow more room. "I'm Jasmin," she said, holding out a hand to shake the boy's, and waiting for him to introduce himself.
---
Harris pushed his way through the packed halls of the train. He was nervous, wondering how much everyone else must have known compared to him, and whether any other muggle-borns were on the train. He eventually found a compartment with only one other boy in it. A girl had just left, muttering something along the lines of 'freak' under her breath as she went.

"Er, hello," Harris greeted Keegan nervously. "Mind if I sit here?"

"Robert Thorpe. It's a pleasure." He said, shaking her hand and taking a seat. He took out and examined his wand. It was a little longer and thicker than most, but it had chosen him, and Ollivander had said it was great for Defense Against the Dark Arts.

"So. What house are you all hoping to be sorted into? I personally hope for Ravenclaw. My older brother, as well as my parents, were all in it, so I'm hoping for it as well."

"Um, not sure," Jasmin replied, trying her best to conceal her confusion. She stood a little straighter and flung back her brown hair, pulling off nonchalant quite well. "I've found going with the flow to be more effective, and a whole lot easier." She stood there fore a moment longer, thinking.

"But your history sounds interesting," she went on to say. "So, your whole family has been in Ravenclaw? That makes you an even more likely candidate then, right?"

Keegan looked at the mysterious boy who had come in. He shook his head and moved over a bit so the other boy could get in the room. He got as close to the window as he could to give him plenty of room. He looked at him and began to part his hair and tucked it behind his ears. "Keegan," he said to the stranger as he looked at the ground, his hair covering his eyes again.

But then I got this letter, and suddenly everything's changed. I never knew anything I could do was... well... magical. It's so strange, and everyone here acts like it's nothing new to them! I-I'm..." But Harris faltered, and he didn't continue. "Sorry," he apologized for the sudden outburst. "I'm still in shock a little, I guess..."

"Yeah, but it's not always the case. Ever read that book about the exploits of Harry Potter? That Sirius black fellow was in Gryffindor, but the entire rest of his family were Slytherins". Robert replied.

Keegan sat in amazement from the boys outburst. "Mums a Muggle. Thinks I'm off to boarding school. Dads a wizard. Quite a broomstick enthusiast. He wants me to play Quidditch," Keegan told the boy, Harris, as he showed him the mini Firebolt in his hand.

"Reducio. A spell to make things small. Dad told me to learn Engorgio first thing to make this usable. It's the Firebolt. One of the best models for broomsticks. Behind the Lightningbolt, of course. You know what Quidditch is right?" Keegan asked him, amazed that the boy was talking to him.

((I thought Keegan and Harris were in a different compartment.))

Jasmin beamed at the thought of Quidditch. "Hopefully they've dropped enough that I can buy one for next year," Jasmin said, joining into the conversation. "I'm going to try out for the Quidditch team as soon as possible. Seeker sounds like the best position, but if I can't get that then I'd definitely want to be a Chaser. What about you guys?"  Jasmin was happy that the one thing she did learn while in Diagon Alley was about Quidditch, and glad she liked it so much. It seemed like it would be a very popular sport at Hogwarts.
---
Harris sat there, feeling slightly dumb, and went pink in the cheeks. "Er, no... What's Quidditch?"

((Yes, Harris and Keegan are in their own apartment. So I'm just going to go with what Harris said and kinda forget Jasmin & Robert's lines, K?))

"Sport. People ride on broomsticks like this one and try to win the game. There are a few elements. I'm not good at explaining so I'll just let you see," Keegan told him as he put the mini Firebolt back into his bag. He then took out some books. 'The Standard Book of Spells, A History of Magic, A Beginners' Guide to Transfiguration' were their labels. "Gotta start studying now, when I have the chance," he told Harris as he opened up The Standard Book of Spells and dove into it.

Harris nodded, nervous again. How much did others know that he didn't, and how long would it take him to catch up? He looked outside to see that they had begun moving, and became engrossed in the scenery. Watching everything outside worked, and he soon became relaxed.
---
Cherri twirled a blond curl around her finger, giving it an extra spiral, as if it needed it. She kept a pink head band in her hair to keep it in place and out of her face. She hummed dreamily as she walked through the now deserted halls of the train. Eventually she found herself a compartment with only a girl and a boy people inside, having a discussion about Quidditch.

"Hello," she said in a singsong voice, smiling at both of them. She sat down next to Jasmin and looked at the boy. "Oh, wow, your hair is green." Jasmin snickered. She couldn't help it, this new girl had just been so blunt.

"Yes," Jasmin replied, smiling. "It really brings out his eyes."

((He couldn't have actually tried the spell out at home, since Underage Wizards can't perform magic outside of school. But his mom could have showed him some spells so he can be familiar with how they work and be more confident about them for when he can actually try it himself at Hogwarts.))

"Sure, have a go," Jasmin said, interested in seeing magic.

Cherri sat down comfortably with her same dreamy smile. She didn't appear to be paying attention to Robert, but was searching through her own bag soundlessly and slowly.

((Wasn't it explained somewhere in the books that in magical households, the Ministry can't detect who exactly performed a spell, and therefore trust to the parents of a young witch or wizard to stop their children from performing magic? So, technically, he could've learned magic from his parents, but it's presumably not that common, since pure-bloods aren't generally shown as being academically superior to half-bloods or Muggle-borns.))

Patrick made his way through the crowded train, having already said a quick goodbye to his parents, and finally came to a compartment that didn't seem too full. He peeked inside, and found two girls and a boy with odd green hair. His eyes lingered on said strangely-colored hair for a moment before he spoke.

"Mind if I sit here?" he asked. "Everywhere else is full."

Robert pulled out his wand and made a swish-and-flick motion while stating "Wingardium Leviosa." He manged to levitate his quill case onto his head before the spell broke.

"Uh, sure." He said, in response to Patrick's question.
((I was planning on making him the guy who is really good with magic, but average at potions.))

((Yeah now that you mention that, it sounds familiar. Lucky, he gets to use his magic at home, too ;-;))

Jasmin clapped as Robert finished his spell. "Wow, that was really good!" Her smile twitched slightly, as she realized how much better this boy seemed to be compared to her already, but she quickly let it go. Hopefully a few years and she'd become a decent witch as well.

When the new boy entered, Jasmin nodded and said, "Sure, the more the merrier." She looked over at the blond and added, "Sorry, what was your name?" Then looked over at Patrick, inevitably asking the same question without words.

"Cherri," the curly haired blond stated in her usual droll, not looking up from her bag.

Jasmin shrugged, not disagreeing, but not agreeing either. She did like the fact that he stood out with his eccentric hair, and she wouldn't have minded having some tints of dark blue in her own hair.

There was a noise outside that sounded like a cart being pushed throughout the aisle, and suddenly their compartment door flew open. "Anything off the trolley, dearies?" a plump witch asked with a smile.

Jasmin, who had just been thinking about how hungry she was, rummaged through her pockets. She had a few spare Galleons, Sickles, and Knuts left over, so she went over to see what there was. She looked shocked at the choices. "Bertie Bott's Every Flavored Beans? Pumpkin Pasties? Chocolate Frogs?" Jasmin had never heard of any of these before, and realized wizards must have their own foods as well as schools. She ended up buying a few of each of the things she had named out loud, as well as some of Droobles Best Bubblegum.

She sat back down and placed all of the food around her on the table. "If anyone wants some, I won't be finishing all of this." She started first with tentatively opening the beans, wondering if there really was every flavor...

"Be careful with those! They are EVERY flavour." Rob said, opening a chocolate frog, and quickly snatching it mid-jump. While chewing on the frog, he looked at the card. "Harry Potter huh? Already have three of him." Holding the card out to Jasmin, he said, "Here, you can start collecting."

Jasmin blinked, and took the card. She watched it for a few seconds. A man with untidy black hair, green eyes, and a lightningbolt shaped scar on his forehead waved back at her. She gasped. The picture moved. "Wow," she whispered, looking down to see the caption underneath. 'Harry Potter (The Boy Who Lived) - Currently the Head of the Auror Department. Harry Potter is most commonly known for vanquishing the Dark Lord, Voldemort, who gave him his prominent, cursed scar. He now lives a happy life with his wife and three children.'

"Thanks," Jasmin said to Rob, looking back at the card to see the picture of Harry had vanished. She frowned, hoping he'd come back soon, and pocketed the card. Next she moved onto trying one of the beans. There was a dark brown one that she thought might be chocolate, and she was thankful to be right. It turned out to be dark chocolate, which she didn't like quite as much. She finished it quickly, and moved onto a light yellow one which was a very sour lemon.

"This is so cool," she said excitedly, never knowing any of these things could have existed before, back when she was just a plain, old Muggle.

"Hey Harris, want to try a few spells?" Keegan asked as he pointed to a spell in his book. 'The Standard Book of Spells' was the book and on it was a simple spell. Expelliarmus. "Says it's the most basic disarm spell. Could be useful. Dad told me that Harry Potter used it to defeat the Dark Lord, Voldemort, twenty years ago," he told him as he remembered that Harris was Muggle born, and probably didn't know any of this. Keegan pulled out his wand and gave Harris a questioning look through his ragged hair.

"I think that's what I'm looking forward to the most!" Jasmin exclaimed, unwrapping a Chocolate Frog, and carefully holding it like she'd seen Rob do. It was delicious, she decided after a weary bite, and continued to eat it. "As soon as I can, I'm going to try out for my House's Quidditch team. Do you fly?"

"Well in here it says..." Keegan began as the door to the compartment flew open before he could react to see who it was.
"Anything off the trolley, dearies?" a bigger woman asked. He looked over at Harris as he pulled out a small, red bag. He opened it up and pulled out a few small coins.
As he handed the lady the money, he asked her, "May I have 2 Chocolate Frogs and 2 Every Flavor Beans?" She took the money and handed him two of each. She closed the door and then continued to walk off. Keegan tossed one of each of the candies in Harris' direction.
"We can even use these to make sure we don't lose our wands," he told Harris as he pulled his sleek, reddish-brown wand from a small section of his pants. "Want to go first, or shall I?" Keegan asked him, delightfully. This was the longest conversation he had with anyone except his father.

"Thanks," Harris said, examining the food put in front of him. He had never seen anything like it before. He held up the Chocolate Frog box, gripping it like he'd grip a wand, and readied himself. "O-Okay... Come at me, then."
---
Jasmin looked admiringly at Rob for a second, some small jealousy mingled in. She would have liked to bombard him with questions about what it was like, but held herself back. Instead, she listened as Patrick gave his own views. A new thought consumed her. She had always been very good at anything physical and sporty she did back at the Orphanage. But, ever since she learned she was magic, the fear that she was only good because of her unknown powers had overcome her. Now she could imagine herself against people like her, them all on an even-footing, and her failing because she no longer had the advantage. Her stomach lurched.

"Well," Jasmin said, trying to shed the feeling, "everyone has a strong point. D'you think you'll be any good at spells, Patrick?"

Patrick shrugged as he helped himself to a Chocolate Frog.

"Mum showed me some basic spells, and I read through some books to learn the theory, so I think I'll be decent, at least."

Jasmin had been wondering how she would do with spells. It had been easy being a Muggle with lots of luck, but the prospect of being a witch without any knowledge of what to come was rather daunting. She glanced out the window to see the dark skies, and a castle in the distance.

"Wow, so that's Hogwarts?" she said, a finger tracing over the castle within the window. "It looks magnificent." They must have been very close now. Jasmin realized, as her stomach did a somersault, that they would reach it within the hour. She began getting nervous again, but excitement met her face, and she smiled beside herself.

"No, we can't have brooms either," piped up Cherri, remembering the letter from Hogwarts. Jasmin jumped, forgetting she was there.

"Yeah, well, we better change," Jasmin said, echoing what Rob had already told them. She pulled her robes over her, Cherri following suit, then looked back out of the window. Hogwarts came ever nearer, and Jasmin's stomach did a back flip.

But, the train suddenly slowed down, until it came to a very stop. Jasmin saw Hogwarts at a distance, but they were still not right up to the castle. "Is this as far as we're going?"

"We need to pass the lake," Cherri said, waving an arm lazily out the window, where Jasmin suddenly noticed a dark lake illuminating the moon.
---
Harris dropped the box containing the Chocolate Frog inside and looked out the window as soon as they'd stopped. "We're... we're here..." He shook nervously, then looked back at Keegan. "Good luck with... everything."

"Darn, I was hoping to try it out too. Good luck," Keegan told the other boy as he ducked his head and stood up. He began to pull of this white shirt with effort from the roof stopping him. Under the shirt was the top of his cloak. He threw it off and tossed it into his backpack with a perfect toss. He took his pants off with less effort and put it in his bag. "Good luck with your house, as well," He told Harris as he opened the door and exited the compartment.
Once out, he headed in the direction he came in, since he knew there was a door that way.

Harris followed him out, tripping over his feet as he went, but remaining as composed as he could.

"Well," Jasmin said, looking around at the others. She nodded towards Patrick and Rob, then said, "Be seeing you." She and Cherri left together, as they had begun to have an interesting conversation over what spells they may learn and what classes they were most looking forward to.

Outside, many other students were flooding the little space available. "Firs' years! Firs' years this way!" called a booming voice. Jasmin looked up to see a gigantic man with wild hair and small beady eyes hidden within it. She looked behind him and saw many tiny boats, holding four people at most, which they were intended to get in to ride across the lake.

Three figures appeared out of thin air to the side of Hagrid, who noticed immediately. In the group was a tall man in a full black suit, and two children, a boy and a girl that had their cloaks on. The man looked around until he spotted Hagrid. "Professor Hagrid, I presume? I believe that you should have gotten my owl. If you can read, then you know that I told Hogwarts that I would bring my children myself. Here they are, good luck," the man told Hagrid, and before anything else could be said, the man disappeared.
When he left, the girl darted off as quick as she could to one of the boats. In it were two girls and a boy reading a text book. "May I?" she asked quickly to them. The boy let out a sorrowful sigh at her quick escape, but let it go as he walked into a(somehow) empty boat.

Keegan looked down at all the boats and hopped into one quickly and huched as far down as he could. The boat was full of a bunch of randoms that no one controls and didn't take notice to him at all.

Jasmin had greeted Rob with a smile, and gave a nod when the girl asked if she could take the last seat. As everyone found their own spots in boats, they began moving. Jasmin gave an inaudible gasp as it seemed they moved on their own, following Hagrid's own boat. Soon, they had made it to school grounds and were escorted into the entrance hall.

A man who looked to be in his late forties with short brown hair, green eyes, a sharp face, and a warm smile greeted the children. "Hello, First Years," he said. "This way, this way." The man led them through a passageway, and in front of giant brown doors which led into the Great Hall. "In a moment, I am going to lead you through these doors. There, you will be sorted into a House. It is this House that you will eat, sleep, and learn with." He looked around his audience, giving them another encouraging smile. "Don't be nervous! Now, are you ready?"

Without waiting for a reply, the man opened the doors that led into the Great Hall, where all the students were sitting at their respective tables, along with the teachers. One chair at the staff table was empty, and Jasmin figured that it must have been where the man that was leading them sat. She stood with the rest of the First Years, nervously, awaiting some other direction. The man that led them into the room left for a moment, then came back with a stool and an old-looking hat. He put the hat on the table, and they all stood watching it for a moment. Then, with a gasp of surprise from some, from a tear in the hat a mouth appeared and the hat began to sing!

Another year comes and goes,
Every once in a while a special one occurs,
In which we must overcome our foes,
But as previous years have gallantly shown,
That no one stands alone.

There has been brave Gryffindor,
Always encouraging daring tasks,
While smart Ravenclaw,
It is their own brains in which they bask,
Hufflepuff on the other hand,
has always taken in those who are loyal,
Slytherin, we know prefer,
those whose ambitions they do not toil.

And it is so that these four Houses,
Have come together through and through,
But enemies still have their eyes on trouble,
And if only past mistakes give new ones a good clue,
That the only way to truly douse the flames,
And keep our friends from terrible maims,
Is for our four to withstand strong.

As this song has subtly hint,
Nothing I'm sure that you missed,
But still I must repeat,
That with enemies it should not be fist to fist,
But an understanding must be agreed,
In order for our forefathers dreams to succeed.

And now my message is concluded,
A warning to be wary quickly included,
And mingle with your friends among other steads,
Only in that case may you be safe in your beds.

As the song ended, people clapped. Jasmin did too, but only slightly. She still felt nervous of what they were exactly supposed to do. What had that hat meant anyway? She didn't want to think at the moment. She just wanted things to be over with quickly.

The man from before was now next to the hat and the stool, a list of names in his hand. She listened vaguely as he named people. She watched as they walked up and put the hat on, silence, then one of the four Houses was shouted out, people clapped, the student sat down with their new family.

((Long post, yeah. You can comment on anything your character did throughout this whole post, ending of course as they wait patiently for their own time to be Sorted. I'd keep conversations at a none to minimum standard until the end of the Sorting, though.))

Keegan didn't say anything during the time, but was bedazzled by the song the hat sung. His father had told him about this. It still was amazing no matter how much he knew about it.

Dragan moved through the crowd of people until he reached his sister, Destiny. "Why did you go away from me, sister? You know that I'm suppose to look after you. I wouldn't want anything to happen to my sister, now do I?" He told her as he grabbed her arm and held it tightly, looking at her through his bloodshot eyes, with a sick smirk on his face. "We are family, after all!"
Destiny threw his hand off hers and moved through the crowd. "Father is no longer here, so I guess I'll have to punish you, stupid half-blood," he commented to himself as he moved his way to the front of the crowd and looked at all the table. He pulled out of his pocket a card from a Chocolate Frog. On it was Neville Longbottom. He stared at it and looked at the table to see if he could find him.

Professor Longbottom was sitting to the left of the empty chair, and the empty chair was to the left of the Headmistress' chair, Professor McGonagall.

The man who had led them into the Great Hall began calling out names to be sorted. Jasmin's name was one of the first to be called, as her last name began with a 'C'. Nervously, she sat underneath the hat where they shared a private conversation, until finally the hat shouted "GRYFFINDOR!" to the crowd. There was immense clapping from the Gryffindor table, and Jasmin gave a quick glance at the Slytherin table before walking off.

"Destiny Dublen!" - "GRYFFINDOR!"

"Dragan Dublen!" - "SLYTHERIN!"

"Cherri Lambergini!" - "GRYFFINDOR!"

"Harris McKenna!" - "HUFFLEPUFF!"

"Keegan McHill!" - "RAVENCLAW!"

"Robert Thorpe!" - "RAVENCLAW!"

"Patrick Quinn!" - "RAVENCLAW!"

As each person's name was called, they rushed to their own table and sat down. Jasmin was glad that it was over with, and Cherri found a seat next to her.

"I thought for sure I'd be in Ravenclaw!" Cherri gushed, still looking pleased at which House she got into. She flipped her long, blond, curly hair and looked at their plates. "I wonder when they'll serve the food?"

Jasmin didn't respond. She was thinking about the whispered conversation she overheard between that girl named Destiny and her brother, Dragan. They got into separate Houses, she noticed. They couldn't be completely related, she also thought, if her brother was going to call her a 'stupid half-blood'.

Destiny was extremely excited that she got away from her brother and rushed over to the Gryffindor table. She sat down near the end of it and looked back over as her brother got named into Slytherin. Dragan smiled at the house he was put into, and took a look back at Professor Longbottom before walking over to the Slytherin table. He threw a look to his sister and she quickly turned away.
"Keegan McHill!" - "RAVENCLAW!" Keegan was happy not to be in Slytherin, but at the same time he wasn't to exited about being in the 'nerdy' house. Just felt like he was going back to his old life. He sat down there and listened at everyone getting sorted. A couple more people got sorted to Ravenclaw as well, but no one he knew. Plus, the person from the train, Harris, had been sorted to Hufflepuff. He felt alone, but only in a way. Everyone in Ravenclaw seemed happy to get someone in their house, and greeted him warmly.

As soon as Professor McGonagall rose from her seat, the Great Hall fell silent.

"Welcome to the old and new," Professor McGonagall said. She had a stern face, but tonight she wore a small smile on it. "I hope you are all hungry-" as soon as the words left her mouth food of every kind appeared on the silver platters around them "-and ready to enjoy a nice meal before your first day of schooling. Before we eat, I would like to remind you all the Forbidden Forest is, as its name suggests, forbidden. And Argus Filch has a nice long list of prohibited items in his office, if you need reminding. Now, have a nice dinner." Professor McGonagall sat back down, slowly and tiredly, and the talking erupted once more.

"Great, I'm starving!" Jasmin exclaimed. Cherri did not say anything, and when Jasmin looked over, she was once again in her dream-like state. Rolling her eyes, Jasmin began pulling some food towards her and emptying it onto her plate. She did so for Cherri too, who wasn't paying anything any attention at the moment.

"Ah, new blood," one boy at the Slytherin table said, smirking at Dragan. "That girl Destiny is your sister? What's she doing mingling with that pathetic House that lets in blood traitors? Don't tell me she is a blood traitor, too." He was sneering at Dragan, obviously testing the new Slytherin out. He ran his fingers through his black hair, spiking the top of it up even further.

She isn't any of your concern anyways. She'll get her just punishment from being accepted into their 'Den' well enough," Dragan replied to the boy, running his fingers through his hair and spiking it just like the boy had, a snide smirk on his face. He grabbed a juicy piece of meat from the plate and began to tear at it.
"Dragan Dublen. Are you some sort of snotty Slytherin that thinks they're, oh so bad, like you people are known for?" Dragan asked the boy as he shoved a giant piece of meat into his mouth and began to chew it.

---

"What's the matter with her?" Destiny asked Cherri as she pointed at the oblivious Jasmin who was piling food onto her plate.

---

Keegan began to dig in onto the food without taking much notice as to what was entering his mouth. He then remembered about his candy he had gotten and pulled out the chocolate frog. He opened it and skillfully grabbed the frog in the first leap. As he pulled the card out, he munched the frog down. On it was a Victor Krum. Keegan had heard about him from his father. He had never gotten this card before though.

"Oh, no," the boy replied, shaking his head at Dragan's question. "No, I'm much more then that." He took a particularly juicy steak and put it onto his own plate, but did not touch it. The boy's gaze flickered toward the Gryffindor table for a moment, settling on one of the First Years. He watched her for a moment as she piled food onto her plate and let out a dark chuckle. "Yes, they will be getting what's coming to them. It's a shame, that one had so much potential..."
---
Cherri blinked a few times, her trance shattered, and looked over at the girl who had spoken to her. "What? Oh, hello. I'm Cherri." She didn't answer anymore of Destiny's questions as she hadn't heard them, and went back to flipping back her hair.

Jasmin looked over at Destiny as well. "And I'm Jasmin," she added. She glanced over at Cherri, who seemed to be much more attentive now, and said in a jokingly hurt voice, "So you'll wake up for everyone but me? Thanks a lot." But then she turned back to Destiny and said, "You're brothers with that guy who got into Slytherin, aren't you? You must not be very alike in order to get into the two Houses that probably couldn't be more different." As she said this, the dinner disappeared to be replaced with dessert. Jasmin was full, but helped herself to a cupcake. Cherri, on the other hand, seemed to be done for the night and didn't take anything at all.

"What, thought someone looked cute?" Dragan poked at the other boy as his steak disappeared from his plate, desserts appearing on the main dishes. Dragan's face became very serious at the sight of it. "I wasn't finished with that. Those darn Elves have something coming towards them," he said to himself as he stood up from the table, revolted at what had happened.
"You, Mr. Inductee boy. You didn't get called up. So you must be a returning student. The food doesn't look too pleasing to you either. I think it's time we head to our rooms. Show me the way, please?" he told the boy after taking a few deep breaths. He didn't smirk or anything, looking at the other boy in an actual serious manner, through his tattered hair that had been shaken when he stood up.

"Brother? More like psycho! Look," she told Jasmin as she showed her the arm Dragan had grabbed. It had already turned purple and started to bruise. "He's crazy. He does everything based on his 'ideals'. Or whatever his father says. I'm sorry, I haven't introduced myself. Destiny Forester," she said with a small salute as a way of greeting.

"What, thought someone looked cute?" Dragan poked at the other boy as his steak disappeared from his plate, desserts appearing on the main dishes. Dragan's face became very serious at the sight of it. "I wasn't finished with that. The boy's ears turned pink at Dragan's first comment, but he said nothing and let him continue talking. "Leaving the first feast of the year would look rather suspicious," he said, choosing his words carefully. "You do not want that kind of attention focused on you so early in the year." He picked up a licorice wand and bit into it. He seemed to be contemplating something, sizing Dragan up once more. "Especially if your plans here involve some painstakingly worked over plans and cunning and could be ruined by just one single suspicion."
---
Jasmin gasped, and cast a furious glance at the Slytherin table. "That's not right," she muttered. But when Destiny announced her name, Jasmin became curious again. "Forester? They called you up with a different last name. Dublen, or something like it."

"You must be half-related," Cherri piped in. "Is Forester your mother or father's surname?"

"Mother's name. I never knew her but she had to have been a better person than my father," Destiny told the other girls.

---

"Plan? Plan's are so boring. Besides, I don't have a clue what your talking about," Dragan told the boy with a nod of his head

Whatever the boy meant, he'd never know. Professor McGonagall stood up once again, and announced it was time for bed. And so it was, as the dessert vanished from the tables. "Name's Zach, by the way," he told Dragan. "And yeah, I'm in my third year." He got up from the table, and began following the rest of the students back to their dormitories. Slytherin's was located in the dungeons.

"Password is 'Pureblood'," one prefect informed the Slytherins.

Back in the Slytherin Common Room, Zachary Baker found a seat right by the fire and sat in it. He watched the fire as it flickered across his face, apparently in relaxed thought.
---
Jasmin stood up, stifling a yawn. "At least you can get away from people like that here," Jasmin added to Destiny. "Gryffindor seems more tolerant." Cherri nodded in agreement, standing up as well. They began following the other students back to their own dormitories.

"Alihotsy," a Gryffindor prefect said to the Fat Lady, and she swung open to allow them access into their dorms. Jasmin was stunned with its beauty and comfort, Cherri seemed less than surprised, and already comfortably at home.

"Well," Jasmin started, looking back at Destiny and Cherri, "guess we should go to bed? I want to be ready for tomorrow, it's going to be our first day with classes and everything..." She was nervous, but only slightly hinted it. She walked up the staircase to their own rooms, found the First Year dormitories, and claimed the first bed on the right. Her things were already neatly in place in a trunk at the foot of her bed, and she saw Cherri claim the first bed on the left.
---
Harris followed the other Hufflepuff's to their dormitory, learned the password, and stumbled inside. He was extremely tired, and followed a few others from his grade into their rooms, collapsed onto the four poster he claimed, and fell right to bed.
---
A Ravenclaw prefect led her students to the Ravenclaw dormitories. The statue in front of them asked her a question, "Why eat if you are not hungry?", and the prefect retorted with a clever enough response to allow them all access to the dormitories.

Rob quickly headed up to his Dorm, not giving the common room more than a sidelong glance. He was exhausted, and was asleep before his head hit the pillow.

Destiny nodded her head and walked up with the other girls. She wasn't sure, but she thought she heard someone fall someways down the stairs, and laughter. Not taking noticed, she reached the bed chamber and closed her eyes. She lightly began to spin around and threw her bag, which landed on the bed next to Cherri. "Bunk mates," she commented to Cherri as she fell on the bed and began to get comfortable.

---

Keegan was surprised at what the Ravenclaw prefect had told the statue for an answer. The best he could come up with was 'Because your body needs it', just a smart@$$ reply. But he was getting tired. Once inside, he learned where his bedroom was, and headed over there immediately. He took the bed one left from the middle and fell asleep instantly.

---

Dragan sat on the floor next to the fire and closed his eyes, waiting for the commons to empty out.

(( We'll skip ahead to the next day. It is Wednesday, September 2nd. ))

Jasmin woke up, her eyes still closed, still clinging onto a pleasant dream she had where she tried magic for the first time and was so successful that she earned her House 50 points... But eventually she had to open her eyes as she heard Cherri get out of bed.

"Morning," Jasmin said, stifling a yawn. Cherri exchanged a similar greeting. It was nearly 7 AM, giving them a few hours before their first class. They began getting dressed and ready for the day, but still lingering in their dorm.
---
Zachary had left the common room suddenly and swiftly, entering his own dormitory for the Third years last night. And this morning he was awake at 5 AM, dressed and sitting up in his bed, reading a book while the rest of his room mates slept. But as some began to stir now that it was a few hours later, he closed the book and slipped it deep within his trunk, pretending to be looking for a clean pair of socks. Then, he left his dormitory and headed to the Great Hall where he'd have an early breakfast.
---
Harris was still asleep at 7 AM, never one to wake up early, and snored on. But he was having a vivid dream where a snake was rising up and up and up... With a horrible gasp of pain he was bit. "Ow... no... get off..." he moaned, turning in his sheets. It recoiled... But then raised itself to strike once more. "No... back off... please... no... please!" he whimpered, rolling around. Finally, he was awoken by another one of his classmates who looked very pale.

"You okay?" he asked with concern.

"W-W-What?" Harris asked, giving a long yawn.

"Are you... okay?" the boy repeated.

"Why wouldn't I be?"

"Er... Okay then. Well, you were squirming in your bed... Bad dream?"

Harris shook his head, his mind blank as he tried to remember having a dream. "No... Don't remember a dream."

"Oh. Well, see you at breakfast then." The boy left Harris to sit there, puzzled. Now that he thought about it, he rarely had any dreams that he could remember. He wondered why. But it wasn't important to him, and he didn't care whether that boy seemed a little scared or not. He would soon forget about the dream, just like Harris had. And anyway, Harris had more pressing matters to be nervous about... Like his first lesson.

Being that Robert sleeps fully clothed, prepared for the next day, he quickly jumped out of bed, grabbed his wand and slipped on his robes, and headed to the great hall for breakfast. Not really being one for extended conversation, Rob soon left the great hall, heading for the first class, herbology.

"Morning Professor." Rob said as he arrived at the greenhouses.
