"What? First years can have brooms. They just can't join the teams. Normally. We'd better change into our robes." Rob said, putting his on over his muggle attire.

Dog Food

"No, we can't have brooms either," piped up Cherri, remembering the letter from Hogwarts. Jasmin jumped, forgetting she was there.

"Yeah, well, we better change," Jasmin said, echoing what Rob had already told them. She pulled her robes over her, Cherri following suit, then looked back out of the window. Hogwarts came ever nearer, and Jasmin's stomach did a back flip.

But, the train suddenly slowed down, until it came to a very stop. Jasmin saw Hogwarts at a distance, but they were still not right up to the castle. "Is this as far as we're going?"

"We need to pass the lake," Cherri said, waving an arm lazily out the window, where Jasmin suddenly noticed a dark lake illuminating the moon.

Harris dropped the box containing the Chocolate Frog inside and looked out the window as soon as they'd stopped. "We're... we're here..." He shook nervously, then looked back at Keegan. "Good luck with... everything."

Patrick pulled on his robes nervously as Hogwarts approached.

"Darn, I was hoping to try it out too. Good luck," Keegan told the other boy as he ducked his head and stood up. He began to pull of this white shirt with effort from the roof stopping him. Under the shirt was the top of his cloak. He threw it off and tossed it into his backpack with a perfect toss. He took his pants off with less effort and put it in his bag. "Good luck with your house, as well," He told Harris as he opened the door and exited the compartment.
Once out, he headed in the direction he came in, since he knew there was a door that way.

Harris followed him out, tripping over his feet as he went, but remaining as composed as he could.

"Well," Jasmin said, looking around at the others. She nodded towards Patrick and Rob, then said, "Be seeing you." She and Cherri left together, as they had begun to have an interesting conversation over what spells they may learn and what classes they were most looking forward to.

Outside, many other students were flooding the little space available. "Firs' years! Firs' years this way!" called a booming voice. Jasmin looked up to see a gigantic man with wild hair and small beady eyes hidden within it. She looked behind him and saw many tiny boats, holding four people at most, which they were intended to get in to ride across the lake.

Rob had somehow squeezed to the front of the group, and merely stood there, awaiting further instruction from the man who appeared to be a one Rubeus Hagrid.

Jasmin, along with Cherri, got into one of the boats lined up by the bank of the river. Many of the other students followed suit. The boats only fit about four people.

Rob somehow managed to end up in the same boat as Jasmin, and pulled out a textbook to keep him occupied.

Three figures appeared out of thin air to the side of Hagrid, who noticed immediately. In the group was a tall man in a full black suit, and two children, a boy and a girl that had their cloaks on. The man looked around until he spotted Hagrid. "Professor Hagrid, I presume? I believe that you should have gotten my owl. If you can read, then you know that I told Hogwarts that I would bring my children myself. Here they are, good luck," the man told Hagrid, and before anything else could be said, the man disappeared.
When he left, the girl darted off as quick as she could to one of the boats. In it were two girls and a boy reading a text book. "May I?" she asked quickly to them. The boy let out a sorrowful sigh at her quick escape, but let it go as he walked into a(somehow) empty boat.

Keegan looked down at all the boats and hopped into one quickly and huched as far down as he could. The boat was full of a bunch of randoms that no one controls and didn't take notice to him at all.

Jasmin had greeted Rob with a smile, and gave a nod when the girl asked if she could take the last seat. As everyone found their own spots in boats, they began moving. Jasmin gave an inaudible gasp as it seemed they moved on their own, following Hagrid's own boat. Soon, they had made it to school grounds and were escorted into the entrance hall.

A man who looked to be in his late forties with short brown hair, green eyes, a sharp face, and a warm smile greeted the children. "Hello, First Years," he said. "This way, this way." The man led them through a passageway, and in front of giant brown doors which led into the Great Hall. "In a moment, I am going to lead you through these doors. There, you will be sorted into a House. It is this House that you will eat, sleep, and learn with." He looked around his audience, giving them another encouraging smile. "Don't be nervous! Now, are you ready?"

Without waiting for a reply, the man opened the doors that led into the Great Hall, where all the students were sitting at their respective tables, along with the teachers. One chair at the staff table was empty, and Jasmin figured that it must have been where the man that was leading them sat. She stood with the rest of the First Years, nervously, awaiting some other direction. The man that led them into the room left for a moment, then came back with a stool and an old-looking hat. He put the hat on the table, and they all stood watching it for a moment. Then, with a gasp of surprise from some, from a tear in the hat a mouth appeared and the hat began to sing!

Another year comes and goes,
Every once in a while a special one occurs,
In which we must overcome our foes,
But as previous years have gallantly shown,
That no one stands alone.

There has been brave Gryffindor,
Always encouraging daring tasks,
While smart Ravenclaw,
It is their own brains in which they bask,
Hufflepuff on the other hand,
has always taken in those who are loyal,
Slytherin, we know prefer,
those whose ambitions they do not toil.

And it is so that these four Houses,
Have come together through and through,
But enemies still have their eyes on trouble,
And if only past mistakes give new ones a good clue,
That the only way to truly douse the flames,
And keep our friends from terrible maims,
Is for our four to withstand strong.

As this song has subtly hint,
Nothing I'm sure that you missed,
But still I must repeat,
That with enemies it should not be fist to fist,
But an understanding must be agreed,
In order for our forefathers dreams to succeed.

And now my message is concluded,
A warning to be wary quickly included,
And mingle with your friends among other steads,
Only in that case may you be safe in your beds.

As the song ended, people clapped. Jasmin did too, but only slightly. She still felt nervous of what they were exactly supposed to do. What had that hat meant anyway? She didn't want to think at the moment. She just wanted things to be over with quickly.

The man from before was now next to the hat and the stool, a list of names in his hand. She listened vaguely as he named people. She watched as they walked up and put the hat on, silence, then one of the four Houses was shouted out, people clapped, the student sat down with their new family.

((Long post, yeah. You can comment on anything your character did throughout this whole post, ending of course as they wait patiently for their own time to be Sorted. I'd keep conversations at a none to minimum standard until the end of the Sorting, though.))

Rob clapped lightly to the song, and immediately went back to his reading, reading through the chapter on Defence Against the Dark Arts.

Keegan didn't say anything during the time, but was bedazzled by the song the hat sung. His father had told him about this. It still was amazing no matter how much he knew about it.

Dragan moved through the crowd of people until he reached his sister, Destiny. "Why did you go away from me, sister? You know that I'm suppose to look after you. I wouldn't want anything to happen to my sister, now do I?" He told her as he grabbed her arm and held it tightly, looking at her through his bloodshot eyes, with a sick smirk on his face. "We are family, after all!"
Destiny threw his hand off hers and moved through the crowd. "Father is no longer here, so I guess I'll have to punish you, stupid half-blood," he commented to himself as he moved his way to the front of the crowd and looked at all the table. He pulled out of his pocket a card from a Chocolate Frog. On it was Neville Longbottom. He stared at it and looked at the table to see if he could find him.

Professor Longbottom was sitting to the left of the empty chair, and the empty chair was to the left of the Headmistress' chair, Professor McGonagall.

The man who had led them into the Great Hall began calling out names to be sorted. Jasmin's name was one of the first to be called, as her last name began with a 'C'. Nervously, she sat underneath the hat where they shared a private conversation, until finally the hat shouted "GRYFFINDOR!" to the crowd. There was immense clapping from the Gryffindor table, and Jasmin gave a quick glance at the Slytherin table before walking off.

"Destiny Dublen!" - "GRYFFINDOR!"

"Dragan Dublen!" - "SLYTHERIN!"

"Cherri Lambergini!" - "GRYFFINDOR!"

"Harris McKenna!" - "HUFFLEPUFF!"

"Keegan McHill!" - "RAVENCLAW!"

"Robert Thorpe!" - "RAVENCLAW!"

"Patrick Quinn!" - "RAVENCLAW!"

As each person's name was called, they rushed to their own table and sat down. Jasmin was glad that it was over with, and Cherri found a seat next to her.

"I thought for sure I'd be in Ravenclaw!" Cherri gushed, still looking pleased at which House she got into. She flipped her long, blond, curly hair and looked at their plates. "I wonder when they'll serve the food?"

Jasmin didn't respond. She was thinking about the whispered conversation she overheard between that girl named Destiny and her brother, Dragan. They got into separate Houses, she noticed. They couldn't be completely related, she also thought, if her brother was going to call her a 'stupid half-blood'.

"Just as I thought." Rob said, sitting down, when he noticed Patrick get called, he raised an eyebrow out of surprise that they'd ended up in the same house.
