Title: Ok. About the scrim team.
Post by: Ultimate Umbreon on December 20, 2008, 07:18:42 PM
We really need to get our **** together. We need to figure out who will play what class and when we will practice (we should just set up our own practices if darklink won't). We really got raped in the scrim.

HI!!!   ;D ;D ;D

I THINK YOU COULD ALL USE A TEAMWORK LESSON FROM THESE GUYS:

I can understand why Darkchief didn't want to play with you guys.  In all seriousness, you guys got a little bit raped.  Learn to work as a team.  That means communicating to its fullest, knowing each other's strengths and weaknesses, and having some sort of general direction or strategy when playing.

Hope you had fun, good game.  We will be waiting for a rematch.  ;D

I was about to make a thread like this yesterday.

Rules:
I play Spy.  You (all of you) do not.
We don't ever need two snipers.
We will rarely have use for more than one engineer.
two soldiers, two demos, one heavy.
two scouts is unnecessary, unless you're a good scout.
Don't play Pyro.

Even though we got owned badly, those were some good games.
And yeah, I really think we need more practice. At this rate, it'll be awhile before we can work well as a team.

So badly that we should have been looking for hiding spots as soon as the round began.

Those rules sound fair. Just as long as we always have 2 Medics and I'm the Heavy :]

No, I'm pretty sure even CAL has two medics.

Also, blah blah blah shutout on Granary and the first round of Dustbowl completed in 35 seconds.  ;D

k guys, allow me to share my pro knowledge with you:
class limits are 1 medic, 1 demoman, 2 of everything else.
Standard lineup:
1 medic
1 demo
2 soldiers
2 scouts

1 soldier can flex heavy, one scout can flex sniper. On some maps, the other scout can flex engineer. Spies should only be used when a team in very coordinated or when the other team is not.

When winter break ends on the 5th I'll scrim with you guys and try to get some organization.

First things first, what classes are you best at? (one of the primary 4 is a must if you want to start, being able to play one of the flexes helps as well). I can play soldier and scout, having a good soldier is usually more important, but doing well as a soldier is hard without a good medic. The medic is easily the most important class, so we need a good player there.

I can play any class if need be, with the exception of the Sniper.  I generally specialize in Spy, but that's not good enough. :\

I used to be a kickass Scout, but I have since learned to play Demo and Soldier, and have, as a result, begun to suck at Scout.  I'm also playing on a lappy with a wireless mouse.

Engineer is one of my worse classes unless I know the map.

hm, well I'm thinking you might want to pick up scout again, since that is an unpopular class and a good scout can make a huge difference in 6v6. the only issue is that you wouldn't be able to flex to sniper or engie, which would make attack/def maps difficult. I guess demo is probably the best route for you, as long as you're prepared to take on that kind of responsibility (demo has a lot of duties).

I'm best at Heavy, decent at Engineer, and above average at Spy. As Heavy I normally destroy a lot of sentries without a Medic by myself and get a lot of kills. As Engineer I rely on my teammates to give me a bit of time to get a sentry up. And as Spy I can get quite a few backstabs and sap any buildings that need to be  sapped(I don't really like playing Spy anymore though).

It's important to know that sentries are a rarity. The only popular competitive map you will find them on is gravel pit. If you want to play heavy, that's fine - full time heavies can do well on any map. But it's important that you can at least play soldier decently, just in case they have a monster sniper (or 2 snipers, but that's pretty rare). In very rare cases, I've seen a scout replaced with a heavy, which works really well if you only have one good scout, but it's really hard for a medic to keep 4 combat classes alive.

If you are best at heavy, you probably won't be playing spy or engineer.

Oh yeah, I haven't been playing with you guys so I don't know this, but are people changing classes in game whenever they feel like it? If you are, STOP DOING IT. Teams fall apart when you find out Joe can't back you up anymore because he is going for a desperate backstab. If you want to change your class, it should only be to your flex, and it should be for a good reason! Doing bad is not a good reason.

I'm bad as Soldier ;_; I suppose I could try to get better.
Oh yeah, in our scrim Silver was playing Pyro for some reason. Try to get him to learn another class.

What pro experience have you had?  Sucka plz

Here are the rules stated DIRECTLY from the CAL rulebook:

Quote3.70b 8v8
The following are the maximum amount of each class a team may use at any given time:
-3 Soldiers
-3 Pyros
-3 Scouts
-3 Snipers
-3 Heavy
-3 Spy
-3 Engineer
-2 Demo-man
-2 Medic

If at any time during the match a team uses more than the allowed amount of any class, the set/half in which the violation occurred will be overturned.

We just agreed on 2 of each class to make things less confusing.

6v6, obviously. Couldn't you infer that from my post? I've played both 8v8 and 6v6, though. Not only does this forum not have the manpower for 8v8, but 6v6 is just plain better. Sucka.
