Title: Who's getting a Vita?

I'm actually very impressed with Sony. The sheer power of this thing is mesmerizing. Quad-intercourse ing-core? Holy poop, bro. And the announced games actually sound fantastic.

Are you getting a Vita?

Yeah, but I'm gonna wait for the price to go down, or just get it this same time next year. I can't even get all the games I want for the systems I already own, getting this won't make it any better.

It does look pretty darn awesome, Wipeout and Uncharted @_@

No way in hell is that thing leaving my house though.

Maybe eventually. Not a lot of games that look interesting to me, though.

I'll get it once people start figuring out how to hack the thing.

Eventually. I'm not terribly excited about it, nor will I get it within a year or maybe two from its release. Maybe in a few years when I have a lot of extra cash (yeah right) and nothing else to spend it on I'll grab one.

Waiting a bit because all of the good games require a memory card and the memory cards themselves are intercourse ing expensive. I don't even consider it to be $250, since you need to spend at least $20+ extra to be able to play the desireable games, and that $20 only gets you 4GB. Honestly, I kinda wish Sony would have just priced it higher and included built-in memory if it really costs them so much that the have to sell 4GB memory cards at the same price as a 16GB SDHC card...

... That, and the fact that I never got around to buying a PS3 has made me indifferent to Sony's franchises.

I may buy a Vita, one day, eventually, maybe.

Too little money and too many games coming out right now to save up for a second handheld, plus Wii U is on the way and I definitely want some of that HD Nintendo-3rd-party action.

CoD, Battlefield, etc will probably land on it eventually. It's got the power and controls to handle that kind of poop.

I think I might get Arkham City on it, just because I haven't already bought it for PS3 and it will probably be a launch title...

But yeah, Vita. I'm not really a big Sony-exclusive fan outside of inFAMOUS; heck, I only own a PS3 because I wanted 3rd party access this past gen. So, I probably won't be getting Vita any time soon, as awesome as it may seem.

4GB PlayStation Vita Memory Card - $29.99
8GB PlayStation Vita Memory Card - $44.99
16GB PlayStation Vita Memory Card - $69.99
32GB PlayStation Vita Memory Card - $119.99

So, yeah, my answer is going to have to be "not anytime soon..."

There's a Vita version of Arkham City?

Also, lol: memory cards in 2011.

Does Sony always have to have some sort of proprietary format? You think they would have learned from Betamax, MiniDisc, UMD, and Memory Stick. All attempted to be the standard, none were.

I'm sure they'll have fun selling their $70 16GB memory card that can only be used on Sony products.

You mean only on Vita. it can't be used for anything else at all.

Even worse than Memory Stick Pro Duo, which was at least used on Sony cameras...

I can't imagine anyone in their right mind shelling out that much for a memory card. Why was the 3DS bashed for its initial price when it CAME with an SD card and tons of other poop? I've seen hardly any backlash on this on other sites.

Do people just love riding Sony's cock or what? I can't tell.

On a side note, do we know how expensive the software is going to be? If they're going to try to charge 50-60 a game I doubt it's going to do well at all. At this point it doesn't matter if the development costs justify it or not, a lot of people just won't buy a handheld game at that price. A lot of 3DS games are already down to 10, 20, and 30 bucks even though 40 is the standard. PSP games aren't being sold at "full" price anymore either.

Sony is known for overpricing their products. Their Sony Vegas products reach the hefty $500 mark or higher.

Games are $40. Capcom is the only one dumb enough to charge $50 for a handheld game.

In their defense, they did say Revelations comes in a cardtrige with even more memory.

Well, they did champion Blu-Ray, and that worked out.  And it's been said that they were pretty instrumental in the speed of the spread of DVD.  But I get what you're saying.

As much as it's been maligned, I don't think that the Memory Card will be what hinders Vita sales.  I think it will be AT&T and the strenght of their line-up.  PSP has had a decent amount of good games, but nothing in comparison to the DS.

And just because the iPhone did well starting with an AT&T exclusive doesn't mean it won't hamper the Vita.  The iPod was already king of the MP3 world when Apple debuted the phone tie in, so people went nuts for it.  The PSP isn't exactly king of anything.

So? They're charging $10 extra for something that probably costs them less than a dollar extra. Uncharted Vita comes on a 4GB card while most other launch games come on 2GB cards, and yet Sony's not charging extra for it. Pokemon Black and White come on larger cards than previous Pokemon games, but Nintendo didn't jump the price to $45. There's no excuse.

So, the carrier used by the Vita SKU that nobody wants is what will kill it? What? You need to explain this one.

Hero, if I recall correctly, I payed 39.99 for both Black and White. either that or it was 34.99. DS standard is 29.99.

There isn't really a "DS standard." Pricing is all over the place. With Nintendo games, however, it's typically $34.99. Also, the point I'm making here is that Black and White released at the same price as Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum (though $5 less than HG/SS due to the PokeWalker) despite using a larger cart with built-in IR.

The DS never had as much of a standard price as, for example, the Wii, in which pretty much all of its "major" (for lack of a better word atm) games were at $49.99.

Still, to go back on a previous topic, there is no excuse to bump a price of a game with a bigger cart up by a lot. I can understand if they made something $5 more expensive if it costs $5 more to make, but the degree they inflate prices due to that isn't proportionate at all.
Title: Re: Who's getting a Vita?
Post by: Hero_of_Darkness on November 28, 2011, 03:17:34 PM
Well, too be fair, this isn't an official announcement and they might even just be placeholders, but these prices are in line with the Japanese prices, a survey Sony made not too long ago, and the Memory Stick prices around the PSP's launch, so they're probably pretty close.

Yes, it did. Games get discounted from the standard price all the time. "Standard" is the pricepoint that a majority of the software launches at. Wii games launch at 49.99(usually) and DS games launched at 29.99(usually). Nintendo developed/published DS games would break the standard, but that doesn't make the standard void.

Nintendo published/developed games constitute a VAST minority of the DS library. Seriously, the DS library is huge. Shovelware or not, most games were 29.99 on release.

I'm trying to wrap my head around why you're even attempting to argue this. Go to your nearest Walmart, look at the DS games. Most will be 29.99. Guarantee it. Unless there is some discrepancy regarding location, and I doubt that.

I have honestly seen plenty of DS games at $34.99 or $39.99 to safely say that it isn't as consistent as the Wii's $49.99. The Wii's price sticks more than the DS's, and I can't wrap my head around why you're arguing that.

I can actually look at my collection of Wii games and say that I paid $49.99 for about 90% of them. For DS games? I don't know if I can even say I paid $29.99 for half of them.

You have a  tendency to mimic a user you're quoting, god man.

At any rate, that isn't even what I'm arguing Kayo. I'm not saying the DS's library is more price consistent. You're trying to say that you've seen "plenty" of DS games at 34.99 AND 39.99. The gall you have to make such a ridiculous claim is absolutely astounding and shows that you only pay attention to Nintendo and more specifically, Pokemon titles. Outside of HG/SS(and other DS games that required peripherals such as Guitar Hero), there were no DS games that were priced higher than 34.99.

Like I said, go to a Walmart. Look at the prices. Still 29.99.

EDIT: I can't believe I'm having this argument. If you had payed attention at all this generation, you'd know what you were talking about. I'm done.

The 4GB and 8GB prices were incorrect... by $5. Actual (confirmed by Sony) prices are:

4GB - $24.99
8GB - $39.99
16GB - $69.99
32GB - $119.99

So, now for some semi-good news. As you all know, all Vita games will be available both at retail and on PSN. What you don't know is pricing. Well, here's how it looks:

This is really great, but you still need to buy an expensive memory card of you want to go all digital. :/ The savings eventually make up for the price of the cards so long as you only save games on them though.

Oh, the first and third points are just a rumor for now, btw, and it might only be temporary.
