I sometimes ask myself, "When will I ever use this?" during school.
I don't even ask that anymore, because I know darn well half the stuff they teach me is useless.
The classes I know I'll use what they teach is Math and computers.

Why the hell do I need to know about events 500 years ago?
but you wont know about the Egyptians and the Athenians and the Persians....
And............ who cares about them?
your boring histry teacher and the historians...
but remember, whoever is unknowledgeable about the past is doomed to repeat it.

In fact, I bet that's on a poster somewhere in your school
Repeating history isn't always a bad thing.

I'd imagine it means the bad parts.  Kinda pessimistic now that I think about it :(

And it seems that self-schooling would work better than someone schooling you, seeing that you learn what's necesarry for what you want to do...

We don't get a chance to ask that at my school; on the first day of school the teachers say, "You may never use this again in your life if you go into a different field, but if you want to pass my class you WILL learn it."
