I'm roughly 2.5 hours into the game, and I'm not really sure what's going on, but I guess it's good. I'll have to put more time in it, but I like the cinematics and the Paradigm system is a lot easier to use than I thought it would be. What does everyone else think? I think I want to try another 3D Final Fantasy, would 8 be a good starting point?

FFXIII is fantastic but not even remotely close to the other games in terms of gameplay.

Your question really depends on if you're gonna play them all. I don't wanna tell you to play the best first than play progressively worse games, yanno?

So a quick list of best-worst titles, in my opinion, would be:
Final Fantasy IV
Final Fantasy VII, IX, IV (Too close to pick, really. Would just be 7 and 9 but after replaying 6 I have to put it up here)
Final Fantasy V
Final Fantasy X
Final Fantasy VIII
Final Fantasy I, III
Final Fantasy II

But they're all still good.

If you strictly want 3D Final Fantasy
VII, IX
X
VIII

You pick what you'd wanna start with.

Tupin

When you say IV, that was released on the SNES as FF II, right?

Well, it was released in the US four times.

FFII SNES - "FFIV Easy type"
FFIV PS1 - As a part of FF Chronicles - Better than SNES version due to removal of "Easy type".
FFIV GBA - Probably the best version due to new features and better graphics than predecessors.
FFIV DS - 3D Graphics and voice acting, but removes the new features of the GBA version in favor of other features.

FF IV DS is a very good option. However, it's harder than the previous releases. Even so, it's my top choice also. (Ironic that I started playing it a few days ago).

Tupin

I'll try the GBA version so I can play it on my Dingoo.

Odd, I never saw myself getting into these games, and yet, I am.

I did forget to mention that the DS version is insanely harder. The enemies are all so much stronger.

But the GBA version has new features that just blow the DS version out of the water. I'm sorry, but I didn't like the ability system in the DS version.

Tupin

Just got the Sand Ruby in FF IV. I really like it.  =)

Going for FFVIII next.

What version are you playing?

Tupin
