Post by: Custom on April 17, 2013, 06:23:54 PM
this can be fun i guess we can see who we have similar tastes with

console:

favorite: majoras mask
least favorite: a link to the past (but skyward sword is pretty close)

handheld:

favorite: link's awakening (it was my first zelda game, also oracle of seasons is pretty close, then ages)
least favorite: either phantom hourglass or spirit tracks, probably phantom hourglass. at least spirit tracks tried to do something new i guess..

Agree on Majora's Mask, haven't played each and every game yet so I don't think it's fair to give a least favorite.

Favorite handheld: Oracle of Seasons

To be honest, I see them practically equally. I got further in PH than I did in ST, so I can judge it better. Either way, both of them suck. A lot.

favorite to least favorite

Console:
Majora's Mask
Ocarina of Time
Zelda II: Adventure of Link
Windwaker
Twilight Princess (GCN)
Four Swords Adventure
The Legend of Zelda
Skyward Sword
A Link To the Past

Handheld:
Link's Awakening
Oracle of Seasons
Oracle of Ages
Minish Cap (although i really don't like this game much, but still, it's more of a zelda game than those other two)
Spirit Tracks
Phantom Hourglass

BOTH:
Majora's Mask
Ocarina of Time
Link's Awakening
Oracle of Seasons
Oracle of Ages
Zelda II
Windwaker
Twilight Princess (GCN)
Four Swords Adventure
The Legend of Zelda
Skyward Sword
A Link To the Past
Minish Cap
Spirit Tracks
Phantom Hourglass
(although i'd kind of put spirit tracks and phantom hourglass in the same position.. I'm only giving spirit tracks the lead because ph was basically poopty windwaker)

also just out of curiosity why do you guys hate zelda II? I know the translation is bad and poop but I really enjoy the gameplay
i used to think it was bad when i was poopty at it but when it was released on the 3ds with the ambassador poop i took the time to get good at it and power through it and thought it was really excellent. i thought the combat was really intense and a lot of fun. plus i intercourse ing love the level up system.
i remember i used to try to beat it without getting the magic. WHAT A MISTAKE THAT WAS. the magic makes the game playable lol
man i'm always so alone on that one.

ESPECIALLY YOU ZERO YOU'RE GOOD AT HARD GAMES

I'll give you my take on it, sure.

The Good:

-Some of the music. The temple theme in particular is iconic.
-Challenging
-Fun bosses
-Nice overworld, especially for the time it was released
-The story was certainly something different from other Zelda's

The Bad:

-The controls are not very good
-You just aren't properly equipped, especially without magic. Even at the end of the game I still felt ill prepared. Maybe its because I first played this game when I got the Zelda Collection on the gamecube and i was used to getting tons of weapons/items, but I really felt ill-equipped even with the magic.
-The save system is god awful, and is probably just an oversight, but from what I remember you always start at one specific palace. Always.
-Lives. why in god's name did they do this? This game is clearly a primitive action/rpg right? Then who thought lives would work in a game like this? The idea behind lives stems from giving the player a couple chances before getting a game over in an arcade and having to pay to start over. At home, lives only work for games like platformers. Period. And RPG's don't work in arcades because they're something of a personal investment in a lot of ways outside of just time. It's arbitrary and intercourse ing idiotic that they gave this game lives. 1-Ups are quite rare too. Have fun dying in a dungeon, restarting at the palace, and then trekking all the way back to that dungeon!
-Even though the bosses were fun, the normal enemies could be very annoying in a lot of ways, especially in the beginning of the game.

and that's all I really remember, its been forever since I've played it though. Perhaps I'll give it another try someday.

from what i remember is that you don't lose levels, but you lose all the xp you've been saving up for the current level if you get a game over
it's really easy to grind though, just hang out in the first temple after awhile and kill those weird flashy bulb monsters that take like 20 hits to kill

i dunno
i feel like zelda ii doesn't deserve the hate it gets
but ph does
i think the only reason i kind of like spirit tracks is because i kind of like the idea of a more modern zelda. the game isn't very good though, lol.
link looks rad as intercourse  on a train

I think the main problem people have with Zelda II is that it just doesn't "feel" like Zelda to most people. You have to admit, you probably wouldnt be able to tell its a zelda game if you changed all the dialogue in the game right?

I put Zelda II at the bottom of my console zelda list, but believe me, I don't like PH more than it. The fifteenth time I had to head back to the center fortress area I put the game down and never went back.

yeah, i do agree. i also kind of forgive it for being so different though because it was such an early release in the series. if they were to release a super different game like they did zelda ii today, i don't think it would go over well at all.
that's kind of how i feel about most zelda games
i really don't think there are any 'bad' zelda games, just ones that don't feel very zelda-y to me.
i feel like spirit tracks and skyward sword are good games, just not good zelda games. which is weird to make a game series have it's own like ranking/comparison scale
but man the zelda series means so much to me

Basically THE most perfect thing that can be said. Skyward Sword was an absolutely amazing game, but when compared to things like OoT and MM it's sometimes a wonder they're even in the same series. I remember personally, the first time I found a Heart Piece in SS was when I said to myself, "Shit that's right, I'm playing a Zelda game" because--especially in the beginning--it just seems so disconnected from the series.

Same with Spirit Tracks. I played it for the first time last summer and had plenty of fun with it, but it just didn't feel like Zelda. The dungeons were ridiculously easy though, don't know how I feel about that.

that's generally the main only criticism of MM

For whatever reason no one seems to care how much they reused from OoT in terms of music and characters and what not, honestly i thought that would be what people complained about but i never see that

Favorite(s): Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. Just really depends on my mood. They both do their own thing so well it's hard to find many  faults with them aside from a few things here and there. Play them all the time.

Least favorite: Skyward Sword. Insane amounts of padding, production values from 1998 in the year 2011, very stupid game design decisions (the adventure pouch was a HORRID idea), and so on. I'd rather play Zelda 2 than this.

Mind you, I haven't played all Zelda games, but of the ones I've played, yeah.

it reuses the same amount of music as every other zelda game. it's not like there weren't original tracks or anything.
i was fine with the characters were fine because they're actually on the same plotline unlike everything else and they really didn't have any depth in oot like they do in mm

On the music thing, I can totally see arguing that half the soundtrack was carbon-copied from OoT. All those places like Goron City/Village, Lost Woods, Zora's Domain/Whatever and stuff like that just had the exact same music. And then the music for the four main areas of MM (Southern Swamp, etc.) are basically variations of the same tune. First time I played I could definitely see where criticism could be. I mean yeah, there are certain tunes that just last throughout the entire series in different remixes, etc. but none as carbon-copied as OoT/MM.

And the character reusing, while they were much more multi-dimensional in MM than in OoT, one could definitely argue that they just recycled a poopton of stuff to make MM. Even if I don't quite agree with that judgment.

Personally I usually like when music tracks make returns in future games, whether it's Zelda or not. Even when I boot up Skyward Sword, hearing that good old Fairy Fountain theme on the file select screen always takes me back.
