does anyone know what this means? my teacher told us to write what that meant. i hadno idea so i didnt write nothing, anyone know what this means? everyone tried guessing what that meant and the teacher keep saying no.

Yep. So it's saying, you need to encounter hardships and setbacks to become experienced/become good at somethng.
Hmm...It has to be hard so the guy gets better :) There is no pratice on a smooth sea. When he could get a lot better in a bad wearing Sea >_>
