What does DI mean?

I always see it around smashboards.com and don't know what it means. must be some kinda techniques right?

Directional Influence.

For example, if you are getting hit really hard to the left, you can tilt the controll stick to the right and might survive. Its usefull when playing as Jigglypuff :)

They might as well say Directional Momentum or something...

I always go through this affect on Hyrule Temple, when I get hit hard by somebody and I'm
up in that Cave area.

I hit the wall, recover and try to run to the LEFT, but I'm not going anywhere because of the momentum. :D
