That's a nice update. Playing Wii games on the GamePad screen, splitting sound in the cables, and the internet changes are all freaking awesome. Dedicated Friends List is good too.

Also, there's a Nintendo Direct at 10 AM EST on October 1 (today), so discuss that here.

Nintendo Direct Info

- Super Mario 3D World looks AMAZING; seriously, I've NEVER been as psyched for a 3D Mario as I am now that I've seen that trailer
- They're releasing Mario & Luigi Wii Motion Pluses; I hope I can find those before they sell out
- Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze delayed to February; that sucks
- Wii U Party actually looks interesting; it uses the gamepad pretty cleverly
- Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games has an online mode where you earn medals for your country... that actually sounds really awesome
- SONIC CONFIRMED FOR SUPER SMASH BROS. with a stage based on Sonic: Lost World
- Pikmin 3 is getting DLC, starting TODAY; the first pack has a handful of challenge maps for $1.99
- There's a special 3DS remake of Etrian Odyssey with improved graphics and an artbook and soundtrack and other stuff; I don't know anything about the series
- A bunch of stuff we already know about games like Skylanders, Lego Marvel, Arkham Origins, Sonic: Lost World, and AC4
- Phoenix Wright's new game will be an eShop exclusive and has a demo available NOW
- Get Toon Link's lobster shirt in Animal Crossing using a QR scanner on the actual Nintendo Direct (it's on their website and youtube)
- Street Passing a Nintendo Zone (such as Best Buy) gives you StreetPasses from the last 6 people that passed it
- New English trailer for Bravely Default: Flying Fairy, which in America is simply called "Bravely Default"; the game can be played with English or Japanese audio
- Zelda: A Link Between Worlds features a new "Item Rental" system in which must spend money to rent items from a shop; this allows you to challenge any dungeon in any order, and you must be careful on managing your money to rent the proper equipment. The trailer shows some cutscenes and characters, too
- NEW KIRBY GAME coming to 3DS in 2014!!! The trailer looks great; it's a 3D sidescroller like Crystal Shards and Return to Dreamland, but with some frankly more interesting level design and 3D gimmicks

WELL THAT WAS A GREAT DIRECT, IWATA

Zero

Honestly was hoping for them to show off the One Piece RPG that's coming out in Europe and America on the 3DS. Couldn't hurt sales for them to do it in a Direct.

but hey was a pretty cool Nintendo direct.

Why use the name super mario 3d world for a wii u game why is nintendo so bad at branding?

why is pikmin 3 still the only worthwhile wii u game?

It parallels the 3DS' Super Mario 3D Land, since "world" is traditionally console and "land" is traditionally handheld. It's similar to the more lazily-named Mario Kart 7 (3DS) and Mario Kart 8 (WiiU), or the EVEN MORE LAZILY-NAMED "Super Smash Bros. for 3DS" and "Super Smash Bros. for Wii U."

I actually really like that they're trying to make these handheld/console parallel titles, but those Smash Bros. ones are really really awful.

its not 3d or on the 3ds

its misleading, and nintendo has been having trouble with that

It's 3D in the sense that it features 3D models and movement, as opposed to the original Super Mario World which featured sprites and 2D movement.  I don't think it will be a deal-breaker.

lets take 3d on every modern sequel of an old game that'll be fun

it will confuse at least a few customers

little 5 year old kid asks his mom for mario 3d for for christmas. mom goes to store, sees two mario 3d games. so she buys the cheaper one. or the one with 3d on the box twice. or the first one she sees she doens't know there are two. whatever, she buys the wrong one. kid is unhappy, kid has a bad experience with nintendo and asks for an xbox next year. sales lost.

it's confusing branding. maybe not for you, but you're not nintendo's average customer.

zeph is right

these are the people that don't understand that the Wii U is not a intercourse ing peripheral for the Wii
