I've downloaded and installed it. I ran the patcher, but I can't figure out to get the game going...
I'm going to give it a shot and see if I can get it working.

I did. I updated it. Clicking "New Game" closes it out, and nothing happens.
I redid everything and I still can't get past the server screen.

Read the following and do what it says. It should fix the problem if you have error 339 (and the subsequent gray screen error)
Gray Screen Error:
Copy the files dx7vb.dll, dx8vb.dll, cybattle.ocx, cymenu.ocx, and VBMP.ocx from your main Pokemon Cyrus Online folder into your System32 folder (C:\WINDOWS\system32)
Now type the following into Run (Start>>>Run)
regsvr32 dx7vb.dll dx8vb.dll cybattle.ocx cymenu.ocx VBMP.ocx

Another thing. The first gym leader is invisible and I can't fight him. I only see his name: Jones.
lol, that same quest thing happened to me, and NPCs are invisible to me as well.

Edit 2: You can press Ctrl to talk to the NPCs, even though they don't appear.

Yeah, good thing it's easy and pretty quick to level up pokes then. Wild pokemon do an incredible amount of damage, and it's pretty unbalanced in that regard.

I completely destroyed the first gym leader
but then again, I caught a level 20 mukrow with my level 11 pokes just before that. >_>

I think that "super effective" attacks aren't working properly. I used bubble on a vulpix and it did pitifully little damage (read: 3). We had the same level too :\
anyways, I just leveled my abra to a Kadabra, so I gots Confusion. :D

the second gym battle is impossible
No Rocks or Elecs to be found to kill the Gyrados, no revives sold in any of the shops, only potions for sale heal 20 health while Gyr does 30+ with each attack :|
I just gave up with trying to even get this game working.

i found both of my Murkrows one map right of the town that has the first gym. I found a snorlax south of that town, but couldnt capture it. Abras appear every once in a while around there too.
OMG, I'm like training a lot of time right of the town and only find Pidgey's, Ratata's and Spearow's, no other Pokémon. ><

I found another one down in the zubat cave
I'll give you one if you give me your in-game name... I would want you to help me evolve my other two as well though, as one of them is better than my Honchkrow, or whatever it's middle form is called.

I'd give you my honchcrow if you wanted (you would have to help me evolve my onix and my better murkrow), but beware that it sometimes ignores your commands if you're too low a level/haven't used it enough.

agh, that sucks. I had to whittle it down to very little health before I could get it.
my pokes were about level 11ish when I found it. There's a big craze going on for them right now, and they can be sold for a good 5000 at least.
don't get ripped off though. Porygon isn't a rare poke. I'm able to go get one right now if I want to (50% spawn rate in some areas).
All my Pokémon can't do a lot of damage to Murkrow...
And lol! Few days ago swarms of Darkrai's appeared. XD

From the start of the game, you keep heading right, right, right. you'll come to a room that has Paras and the occasional Ekans (I think)

once you get to a high enough level, training the lows is easy. Pikachu is worth it once he gets Thunderbolt.,
