Title: Unused creatures.
Post by: The Riddler on March 25, 2010, 11:45:44 AM
Back in the day, every Pokemon was based on some creature, plant, myth, or real life figure...
The second generation, for the most part, followed this pattern.
Hell, even some of the third generation Pokemon did. But during the third generation, things started to deteriorate.
They were running out of ideas. They used an Easter Island statue as a Pokemon (Nosepass). The legendaries were all poop.
Then the fourth generation it was a madhouse.

Anyway, the point of the topic is, what creatures could you imagine being turned into Pokemon?
What type would they be?

For me, I'd love to see any of the following:
Ant or Fire Ant. Fire ant would make it a Fire/Bug type.
An electric tiger. It feels like it would work.
A "land shark". Do ho ho. A ground/water type.

Jack 'o lantern. Because if they can have Nosepass, I want a Fire/Grass Pumpkin.

An ice wolf. It makes sense, and yet it hasn't been done, has it?

They should do a generation of random crappy dragons and western mythological creatures, like Griffins and Hippogriffs

The Legendary beasts are often argued between cat and dog.
Suicune is almost without question a Wolf.
Raikou looks like a Saberetooth Tiger.
Entei is some kind of large dog.

Flamingo and Peacock would both work.
Flamingo Water/Flying
Peacock could be made interesting. Grass/Flying, make the feathers into leaves.

I know it's make-believe but has it been done before? To be truthful we've had stuff that doesn't look much like Pokemon at all, so it wouldn't be a stretch.

That being said, you really have to consider what a wolf is and how it applies to a pokemon. Wolves are just a type of canine and are incredibly similar to dogs to the point where often I find myself just viewing wolves as another type of feral dog.

Arcanine is one badass Clifford.

@TK: Reindeer are an actual species of animal bro

1.  Reindeer do exist, proof is here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reindeer)

Title: Re: Unused creatures.
Post by: JrDude on March 25, 2010, 04:05:43 PM
Even if reindeer didn't exist and wasn't already done, it would be an easy thing to do since they already did a Santa Pokémon (Delibird)

They should make a Pokémon that look a lot like a human, but has obvious features as of why it's not, possibly a fossil Pokémon. This Pokémon would be based on human "evolution." Since it's a fossil, it would likely be something like Normal/Rock.
Also, it seems they are trying a fossil thing that is similar to Eevee, one of every type (except with fossils, it is every type mixed with rock), so that idea could possibly work.

Another idea, a bear. Yes there is Teddiursa & Ursaring, but those are teddy bears (one's a teddy on steroids). They also re-use ideas too, so it's not that much of a stretch. My idea is that this bear has several forms, depending on the area you find it (ex: brown, black, polar, etc.), but it is always the same type, and to make it more reasonable to actually find a form you want rather than it being 100% pointless, maybe each form/color can have a move that the others cannot, like polar can do ice fang while the others cannot. Just an idea.

That could work. If there was a normal dolphin in a Pokemon game it would probably be Water/Flying, going by their logic.
No, silly. A normal dolphin in a Pokemon game would be a NORMAL type! :D

and jumping out of the water means flying how? Fish jump out of the water all the time and the only water/flying type I can think of is Mantine. Manta Rays are said to "fly through the seas", hence why its a flying type.

To be honest though, if they made a dolphin pokemon part flying it really wouldn't matter to me. Water isn't my thing. I was just curious as to what his reasoning was is all.

Let's try this one type of creature at a time.

Bug Pokemon:
Bee/Wasp - Beedrill, Combee, Vespiquen
Bagworm - Forretress, Burmy, Wormadam
Butterfly - Butterfree, Beautifly
Beetle - Pinsir, Heracross
Caterpillars/Worms - Caterpie, Weedle, Wurmple
Cicada - Nincada, Ninjask, Shedinja
Cocoons - Metapod, Kakuna, Cascoon, Silcoon
Cricket - Kricketot, Kricketune
Dragonfly - Yanma, Yanmega
Firefly -  Volbeat, Illumise
Gnat - Venonat
Ladybug - Ledyba, Ledian
Mantis - Scyther, Scizor
Moth - Venomoth, Dustox, Masquerian, Mothim
Pond Skater - Surskit
Scorpion - Skorupi
Spider - Spinarak, Ariados

Did I miss anything?

What kinds of bugs are missing?
As I noted, we have no Ants. We don't have any Pillbugs, either. You know, Roly Polies.
We don't have any grasshoppers or locusts either.

No one appreciates Gyarados anyomore.  :(

Anyway, I don't really have a reasoning for it, but for some reason I can totally see a Water/Flying dolphin. I'd prefer a totally awesome Orca pokemon, though, and it would definitely be Water/Ice.

*looks at Guildenstern's new post*

I want a giant, feral-looking centipede, and I'm all for that Fire/Bug fire ant idea from earlier. A pill bug is a tiny millipede, which is basically a wussy version of a centipede (not stingers and such), so maybe we could have a millipede pokemon that turns into a centipede pokemon.

A millipede to centipede could work pretty well.

Not that Pokemon follows all rules of nature, but there isn't really a king ant. It would be more like a Combee-Vespiquen scenario, where only the female can even evolve.

or the male could evolve into a useless (stats-wise) pokemon with a very limited breeding pool but a huge move pool

There is no such thing as a "king ant"
Though I was thinking an evo for a male ant could be a like a forest ant or whatever they're called, you know the ones that can fly? (A Bugs Life), but then when I remembered that movie, I was like "durp, only the female ants can fly" so reading this was likely a waste of your time, even though your time is likely wastable, wait, are you still reading this? stop reading these sentences... SERIOUSLY NOTHING IMPORTANT IS HERE, wow, I really am wasting my time here by writing this, but so are you for reading it, are you really that bored? 'cause I am.
