Title: Sonic "Generations"
Post by: Nayrman on April 07, 2011, 07:33:01 AM

Yep, classic Sonic is apparently back in the 20th Anniversary game. that's all we know. Still pretty neat though.

Hope the gameplay turn out straight.

Looks interesting, but I haven't been a big fan of newer Sonic games.

No Wii logo?
FINE! WE NINTENDIANS DON'T WANT YOUR SHITTY SONIC GAMES ANYWAY.
Maybe.

I think it will be a compilation of both "Old" and "New" Sonic games with a graphical overhaul, which I wouldn't mind... although I'm not sure if they could all fit on a single disc if they were all revamped into essentially new games from the ground up.

I'd PREFER, though, for this to be a real, new Sonic game, perhaps with some crazy time-travel gimmick like "New" Sonic getting stuck in the past and needing his past self's help to get back to the future.

I have a bad feeling about this.

Hey now, don't start that again. Remember this?

Sega's been handling home console Sonic quite nicely recently. I think that at WORST (read: most disappointing) this will simply end up being a port compilation like those two Gamecube/PS2/Xbox games they released.

Yes, that title was nice (except Sonic's new voice creeps me out).

But I have a bad feeling. Once it gets over their heads, they will trip down and fall on to an abyss filled with spikes.

Oh god, another poopty Sonic game.

First gameplay. Classic Sonic is 2D genesis style levels with momentum. Modern Sonic is Colors style gameplay. Both will have levels based on the three eras of Sonic. Classic, Dreamcast, and Modern. All music is remixes of old music. Looks fun so far.

I was seriously questioning Sega yet again when I saw Classic Sonic's gameplay, up until Modern Sonic's massive difference in gameplay showed up.

It's great to see that Classic Sonic gets a piece of his spotlight back.

Looks like Modern Sonic got his spin dash back.
Also there gonna be a new villian for this game thats trying to destroy the past. Any thoughts?
Title: Re: Sonic "Generations"
Post by: FruitFlow on April 18, 2011, 02:10:49 PM
Depends on how this "new" villain plays.
Destroying the past or present to alter the future seems to be the most common scheme with time themed game villains.
But I personally don't see anything wrong with having new villains in popular franchises.

It's a Robotnik-Eggman team-up. I guess one contacted the other with technology and from there they began to hatch a plan to destroy Sonic by ripping apart time and space.

This video has a japanese interview with spanish subtitles. It also has some gameplay.

Oh, well then if that's the case it sounds epic.
I always used to think Robotnik was Eggman just with a different name.

They are. However, he was called Robotnik more often in the older games. Once the dreamcast came out even the american continuity was forced to call him Eggman. So when a fan says "Robotnik" they usually mean old Sonic. :)

Ah, I see.
LOL. I remember at Oldsider there were a lot of people that said they were 2 different people.
I pretty much got confused at that point and remained neutral to the situation afterwards.

Eggman and Robotnik are two separate people in the Archie Comics.

Its....complicated.

Gameplay with translated subtitles.

So, this game looks AWESOME. I'm most glad to get more Sonic-y themed stages with Daytime Unleashed gameplay (real, high-speed 3D stuff, not that mostly 2-D stuff from Colors), and of course Old Sonic gameplay looks good too. I still want other characters to show up, though; they surely won't be playable, but I'd like for them to do something, or at least be part of the story.

Also, since they're compressing 20 years of Sonic in one game, does that mean that we'll get specific stages from newer games too? I'd love to do some Adventure 1 & 2 stuff using Old and New Sonic gameplay and these beautiful graphical overhauls. Heck, maybe they'll add in something from Shadow or 06! The apocalyptic lava-filled city of 06's future could be awesome in Generations form.

They said we would get stages from the three eras of Sonic. Classic, Dreamcast, and Modern. So I expect some Adventure 1 and 2 madness as well as some recent stuff as well.

I hope they have brand new original levels too. And not just 1 or 2.
Title: Re: Sonic "Generations"

They are "original" in terms of design. It's not like classic Sonic is an exact replica of Sonic 1. That much can be seen in the footage.

Well, if you think about it, these are almost ALL new levels; 2D gameplay in levels made to look like 3D games, and vice versa.

So anyone think that Super Sonic will return as playable in this game? I really hope that other characters will be playable like Knuckles and Tails. I think its been quite a while since they were playable in a game that doesn't suck.

Sega confirmed only the two Sonic's are playable, but the other characters will appear.

"Other characters"

So now they're bringing seven-year old Amy as well.

This is just going to make everyone think the old selves will come back too. *Sonic fanfic writers go to work*

We don't know if other old designs will be returning, but it's likely. Classic Robotnik appears on the signpost so it's highly likely. It's not like there were many old characters. Although I would like to see a return of Mighty and Ray. :D

Sega has completely killed those off from existence. For some reason, Knuckles never seems to have nostalgia with the Three Stooges Team Chaotix.

B-B-B-ut I liked mighty! Ah well. At least he didn't get devolved into a "FIND THE COMPUTER ROOM!" nonsense. ~_~

I would like to see him though considering he was runner up in the Sonic design contest when they were making him. :P

Sonic, Tails and Knuckles are the only 3 characters I "truly" care about.
Amy, Cream, Big, etc. are "okay", but the above 3 will always stay on top.

Yeah I'll get this, considering Sonic Colors still hasn't been ported to the 360/PS3.

This.

Unleashed was the most fun I've had in any Sonic game ever, and Generations is a more nostalgic, probably better-written version that replaces Werehog with Classic. Gonna be AWESOME... if I can get Skyward Sword and Arkham City and still have money left over.

What the heck? Why does Perfect Chaos have purple and green skin now? He's supposed to be water, dang it.

Also, I hope the Crisis City stage lets you fall through floors and crash into the camera like the original 06 stages.

To be fair, Perfect chaos always had that scale-like exterior. Not sure why they decided to change the color.

Destruction, to change the future, past or present seems to be the most common planning time for the theme of the game villain. I personally do not see any errors with the popular franchise of the new villain.
