When we hit 500,000 posts, we become an SMF Big Board...which just gets hawk access to a super secret board on another forum...but it also establishes us as reaching a relatively decent landmark in terms of forum life - considering the incidents we have faced.
As such, I am putting the call out to the person that nabs the 500,000th post by March 1st, 2010. You get that post - you get a reward. What? Well, we'll discuss that here.
Also, don't just spam poop. Actually use this as incentive to get a prize of some sorts.
will it be real poop or like can i just be mod again when i get it
oh ok 9k left
This shall be interesting.
This should be fun. :)

Sync is back, thank you very much.
I think I'll just lay low until there's only 5 posts left. Kekeke.

He pasted Light's small text because he couldn't see it. He forgot to remove it from the his reply box before he posted.
Due to things like just spamming when the last few posts are needed, I think It's also good to see who contributes the most of the timespan of those 9k posts, as it gives people more incentive to make good posts.
But whatever. Oh fun.

In all seriousness, that's a pretty major landmark. Can't believe we're already getting close. Good luck to the winner (me btw)
Mack, you realize people are gonna delete posts?
Uh, maybe I'll post a bit more then?

As a note, we're missing about 30k posts as it is. Just wondering how we'll know which is the 500k?

some idiot will post on the 499,99th saying "post 500,000 get! woohoo ninnyes!" while a few other people in some random boards (Sony, etc.) will make the 500,000th post without even knowing about this thing we have here. The staff will believe that first idiot, though. And NSFCD will become more corrupt.
Wow, I'm surprised we've lived long enough to get to 500,000 posts.
Really though, what good would deleting posts do?
If the same nonsense goes on with this as last time, you can bet your ass I'll make sure anyone who carries on with the post deletions regrets it.

Well, now that that's been taken care of...
Sounds interesting. If it's only about getting the last post though, then most people will swoop in during the last ten to try and win that prize. If they're smart (unlike a lot of those dumb eBay people who bid on something that still has a week left - why, why would you do that? You're only upping the prize for yourself and everyone else. I hate those people.), that is.

all that over a page get? Damn...
This is why I think there shouldn't even be a prize for the 500,000 post. It would just cause a lot of fighting and poop that is not needed. at all.

No. I got it. Doodle got upset. Someone deleted posts to take it from me, THEN Silver realized he wanted it.
I wanna point out though, that my last post was post # 520249, this one is probably 520250.
If we have that many lost posts, how will we know what the official 500k is? On top of that, we can't even use a reference number 'cause the number will change if any posts get lost before then.
why don't we just disable deleting until then
like do we need to delete our own poop?
Spam posts get deleted too, but by the mods.

Around the time for 500k, there's gonna be a rush for posts. Since the post number itself isn't 500k, how will we know which it was?

Viewing the day it happened, but there could be like, 1000 posts that day thus making it a pain to look over.

I'm starting to think It's not a bad idea, but yeah.
theres no such thing as bad activity :)
I just don't think there is an accurate way to know what the 500,000th post is. I have a strong feeling whoever rightly earns it isn't gonna get it.
By the way, deleting your account just puts all of the posts under "Guest."

Well, we know how many posts we need. We know what the last post number is. We can calculate what would actually be the 500,000th post so that whoever wins will rightfully win.

Like I said, even that won't work. One deleted post throws off the whole thing. What might look like the 500,000th post could actually be the 500,001st, and someone missed out.

Disable members from deleting posts and have staff members refrain from deleting (how often do they delete posts, anyway?).
But ultimately, this is Mack's game. So go to him with the gaping holes in his idea.

520230 is what we have before this post.
That means, sans posts that wind up in the trash can, we take the difference between 5K, add it to that number, and the post count as of that point will be netted. But it also needs to register on the stat bar at the bottom saying 500K. My word of advice - get post 500K, nab a screenshot, and post away.
And anyone found deleting posts unnecessarily will lose the ability (as well as the ability to lock their own threads, have sigs/avy's, post on SD at all, or Power On, etc.)
2009 was only 1/4 as active as 2008. Not good, not good.

It still doesn't work. Any deleted post will make us have to use a different reference number. You're gonna have to check the posts every day.

What if by chance someone isn't paying attention that we're almost there then accidentally deletes a message, causing the last person to say "I GOT IT" to not get it?
Just a hypothetical.

You know, that would be hilarious. I'm starting to think It's going to be a huge disappointment for anyone hyped because on that day, there's probably going to be a lot of chaos running around, and then some good posts will come up and we'll be like "THIS Should've won it"
