It's not what it looks like
One of my Summer Reading books is How to Read Literature Like a Professor.
As if reading the book wasn't bad enough, we also have to keep a journal with our impressions/opinions/etc. about each chapter.
That was me trying to BS the journal assignment.

Oh and Foster, the author says that the lances are phallic symbols. The Holy Grail is representative of female sexuality. It was just the author's way of encoding sex into literature at a time when it was taboo.
