The must play games:

Mega Man 2
Mega Man 3
Mega Man 6
Mega Man 9
Mega Man 10
Mega Man X
Mega Man X2
Mega Man X3
Mega Man X4
Mega Man Zero 1-4
Mega Man Legends
Mega Man Legends 2

The worthwhile games:

Mega Man
Mega Man 4
Mega Man 5
Mega Man 7
Mega Man 8
Mega Man X5
Mega Man X8
Mega Man ZX
Mega Man ZX Advent
Mega Man & Bass

Play with friends for Shits n' Gigs:

Mega Man: The Power Battle
Mega Man 2: The Power Fighters

Ignore Mega Man X7 and only play Mega Man X6 if you can tolerate insane level design. X6 has a fantastic OST, though.

Mega Man Network Transmission on the gamecube is also alright. Not a very popular game, but I thought it was solid. Most Mega Man games are good games, and that's one of the reasons its my favorite series of games.

My favorite Megaman games are the arcade games.  It cuts straight to the bosses (the best part of the games) with high quality visuals.

In terms of difficulty in relation to the others, its usually in the middle. You should give it another try sometime.
