Title: Hey there, new Mario game
Post by: SkyMyl on March 02, 2011, 11:42:06 AM
(http://static.gamesradar.com/images/mb/GamesRadar/us/Daily/2011/03-Mar/02/Super%20Mario%203DS/Mario3dsScreens--article_image.jpg)

Yes, Mario 3DS is officially confirmed (http://www.gamesradar.com/3ds/super-mario-3d/news/nintendo-reveals-new-super-mario-for-3ds/a-20110302102629413085/g-20110302102510972026), and is apparently being worked on by the guys behind Super Mario Galaxy. Which is pretty badass, since Galaxy 2 was pretty badass.

Commence the obligatory discussion topic!

I seem to see Small Mario in the bottom left screenshot. Perhaps the Super Mushroom finally gets to be in a 3D game? Well, if it's the Galaxy team, I'm sure it'll be great.

The god of video games like us so much. That's why Mario will stay alive.

And the first impression is very nice.

Also apparently a subtle hint at the possibility of the Raccoon Tail returning. I'm all for that. Hopefully we'll see the game in action and playable come E3. I get the prediction this will be a winter release for the 3DS to be big for the holidays. Unless of course Nintendo has something up their sleeve to show off at E3, which you never know, but we'll see.

It reminds me of Mario 64 mixed with Galaxy, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. If they're just casually mentioning this, they must have some big reveals in store for E3.

That also looks like a star coin above the paragoomba in the bottom right. I wonder if the tanooki tail is a trick or something. It's really obviously a tanooki tail, but it might be something new shaped like one.

I'm just glad the technology has gotten good enough for a proper 3D Mario platformer on a handheld. Can't wait to see how it turns out.

Seeing it's the Galaxy Team that's working on this I can already tell it'll be big hit.
Both Galaxy 1 and 2 got GoTY, so this may make it's way to the top as well. Only time will tell.

This is a definite buy for me.

Look good so far. I predict that the Super/Posion mushroom returning base on that small Mario pic.
Do you guys think they will bring back 4-player co-op from NSMBW?

I doubt it.
Most 3D Mario games are usually 1-2 players.

Real question mark blocks?
Lowering and Rising platforms of SMB1/3?
RACCOON TAIL?
LITTLE MARIO!?

OH GOD I CAME

Can't wait.  Though I do hope that this isn't another space-themed Mario game.  SMG 1 and 2 were great games, but I feel like a third one would be a bit redundant.  I'm personally hoping for something a bit more like SM64.

SMG1 was supposed to be the first and only Galaxy game because Nintendo had no future plans to produce a sequel.
2 years later we get an announcement at E3 stating that SMG2 was in the makings.
Oh boy what a surprise.
The only reason Galaxy 2 was made was because Nintendo had more ideas that they couldn't fit in Galaxy 1.

According to Miyamoto (from IGN and other sources), Mario 3DS is a mix of 64 and Galaxy, due this year, and the tail is exactly what we think.

If it has a bit of 64 in it then that sounds good.

That 4th frame in the screenshot reminds me of Tick Tock Clock for some reason.

Reminds me more of that one galaxy I forget the name of. Well, a cross between Toy Time Galaxy and some galaxy toward the end of SMG2 that I forget the name of, where you jump across a long chain of rotating blocks.

No, it was in either the last or second-to-last world. On and you're surrounded everywhere by moving 8-bit patterns on the walls, like you're in a GIANT room.

On, that's the name. Twisty Trials Galaxy.

Yeah, I remember that stage.
It reminds me more of the "secret" stages in Super Mario Sunshine.

Speaking of Mario games, I wouldn't mind a SMG 3DS in the future. As long as it doesn't suck.

I want something like it on a handheld. It really wouldn't be that bad.

That would be nice.
But I can't really see what they could come up with in this one, since they've used up about everything in the first 2 games.

I wouldn't mind them repeating the same stuff, just doing it in a different way. We don't need new gimmicks.

You guys wanna hear some words that's got a good chance of breakin' your opinion, here?
Good ol' Shigeru mentioned that there would be a second analog stick in the form of the 3DS's gyro sensor.
I hope that's false. I really do. I hope the motion sensor is never used for anything, or at least given a viable second options. If they're smart enough to know people don't care about 3D so you can turn it of, doing something like that where I have to wave my system around is kind of dumb. I guess we'll see in a few weeks.
