Unless someone reads the back of my iPod, figures out the two names there are my username and password, finds this site, uses the name/password to log in to my account here, posts, then openly announces I'm dead?

At most, people would probably be like "Eh, where's Super been?".
Only people I know personally would actually care.

People are treating themselves like we're on Oldsider or something, where if you died, you'd just fade into nothing within seconds.

We're a tight community here, you all know that. If someone was inactive for more than a week, without any warning, we would know something was up.
