I heard that AT&T was offering an alternative to a 2 year contract to people who had bad credit(and since i have no credit, i guess that would work).  Does anyone have info on this?

Yes, I don't remember the exact procedure, but even if you had good credit you could fool the activator thing into giving you the option to use a pay-per-month plan.
