No this idea sucks we should merge all the boards into 4 boards >:(
forum announcements/help
vidya games
power on
SUPER SECRET STAFF PORN BOARD

Seriously though, reaching the conclusion noted in this thread took quite a bit of debate between staff. Some initially wanted almost everything to be merged and one disagreed with doing anything.

I believe we all decided on this result because:
It does not remove the ability to chat about anything
It should not notably reduce the chat activity of any notable subjects
It merges together some boards that have similar discussion (Wii, DS, Ninty)
It makes the board index shorter and easier to navigate by... 6 boards, I think?
Brawl and Pokemon, the most popular franchises, have very specific discussions and are kept unmerged in this plan.
Zelda has very few game releases and does not have much discussion activity.
The Mario board isn't very active

By the way, about third party, we're giving it longer to evaluate its popularity. If it remains inactive, which I expect it to, the threads in it will be separated manually between Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft, and Power On. After that, Power On will cover any game discussion that is not specific to a single company's consoles.

And to note something else, navigating to a child board does not take any more time than navigating to a main board. On the main page of the forum, which is called the board index because it lists all the boards, below each board is listed all of its child boards. The names of the child boards are clickable and take you directly to them.

I guess it's fine. Merging the inactive boards together would make a somewhat active board.
That's flawed logic. I guarantee, within 45 days virtually all prior discussion will wilt. Then, we'll have the Nintendo board in its current state. Considering I conceptualized the last board layouts (notably the creation of Nintendo - under this logic that Metroid, FE, Custom Robo, etc would continue to be discussed), I have a general idea and backing. Those items are hardly discussed anymore, yet I don't doubt for a minute if we had boards we'd get more posts. No, I'm not saying ADD ADD ADD boards. But, just watch the little discussion we have die. Just like when we killed off MSC and dumped it into Wifi. Or then dumped Wifi. Now we dump the dumpee, into another dump. Within a year we'll dump everything into Power On.

Again, I have backing when I say I know the effects of board changes like this. I've been key to all of the major ones (as in, my layouts used), and I followed the stats.

...Mack has a point.
I don't know if there's a way to do this while still keeping discussion on the boards that are being merged.
Heck, look at the Nintendo board. It's mostly Nintendo news and speculation. Nobody uses it for the "other franchises." Unless you make them child boards, discussion would just be lost.
YEAH

Mack, calm down.  Just because we merge boards into more general areas doesn't mean it'll all snowball into one big board.

Besides, if it doesn't work, we can always just put it all back.

Yes, you certainly can. But tell me, if we merge boards to create a super board with a whopping total of 100 pages of threads - would you go through and manually redo all the necessary moves to that board? I know I sure wouldn't, and I have half of the moderation logs on the site.

And yes, these same users (much like Bluaki's joke) have often mentioned 4 boards (or even less) for the site. Which I think is an inevitable action.

All the reasons why this shouldn't happen has already been said.
NSFCD is supposed to normally be Nintendo related, soon it will just be another forum with no real purpose, then it will sink down and lose more and more activity.

I really fail to see how that builds on my post. It's one thing to offer a constructive opposition, but instead you mock it. Really, if anything, that works against you. Well done.

whatwewishfor

good i hate going through all these boards rawrrrrrrrr
whatever

Magnum

If anything, I want to see Mario and (even though it has low-really no activity) the Zelda board stay. Everything else can be Child Boards and such.

Oh Vesperia, never change... never change
